My Top Ten Films of the Decade- #10 Intimate Strangers

I can hardly believe the decade is almost over. The past ten years have produced some amazing films and I have decided to celebrate by counting down my ten favorite films of the past decade, connoisseur style. We start with number 10…

Intimate Strangers
, or Confidences Trop Intime, is a French film released in 2004 starring Fabrice Luchini and Sandrine Bonnaire. It is the story of a woman named Anna (Bonnaire) who one day walks into the office of William (Luchini). William is an introverted tax attorney, bored with his life- frustrated. His world changes when Anna mistakes his office (and him) for that of her new psychologist. William wants to tell Anna that she is in the wrong office, but he is so intrigued by her- so beguiled that he allows her to talk and unfold her darkest secrets… and thus, the games begin...

What unfolds is a tale of erotic subtlety- one that explores the longings of the imagination and the heart. This movie is not overt in any sense of the word- its subtlety is rapturous and leaves the audience with a sense of passion and a longing for more...

I hope you'll stay tuned for my number 9 pick...

I certainly will keep a lookout for the rest of the top ten. And in the meantime I will try and track down a copy of Intimate Strangers.

Can't wait to see the rest of the list! I'll have to put "Intimate Strangers" in my Netflix queue.

Can't wait to see what follows!

Now that fall is here, we're starting to hunker down on weekends for movies and popcorn.
I have Volver and Grey Gardens (old) on tap for this weekend--have seen neither. Last weekend we watched Contempt (with Brigitte Bardot, with whom my husband promptly fell in love) and Let the Right One In (vampires!).

Also, Coco Avant Chanel is slated to arrive here in Po-dunk soon so I will be sure to see that!

Oh this is a fun series of posts! I love foreign movies just like the one you described. I might have to reinstate my membership to Netflix so that I can see this one.
Thanks!

Great idea! I think this movie sounds like something I would enjoy. When I first saw the post in my Blog feed, I thought that was you lying down having a ciggie and contemplating your favourite films! I should have known better! It seemed a very French image and thing to do. Thank you for my lovely Birthday wishes. xx

This is great. I don't want to miss one. Will your choices always be French?

I don't go to films as often as I should. Plus if I went to French films it would help my verbs. At least I watch some on TV.

I watch very few movies because one of my pet peves is wasting time watching poor movies. This looks like it would be an interesting movie possibly. I thought I was going to post and be the only one that did not know what it was.

It will be interesting to see the other 9. You have an great way of discribing the movie. I am going to watch it already. It just makes me feel odd sometimes doing something in real life based on a blog that I read.

I absolutely adored this film - the premise is so clever and the execution doesn't let it down in the slightest. I must say, I do love a dreamy melancholy unexpected French film. So refreshing not to be able to guess the stock ending where everyone ends up happy.

I am not the miserable git this comment suggests, btw! Am very much enjoying your blog.
