My Top Ten Films of the Decade- #9 Drag Me To Hell

And no, I’m not kidding.

I have to start by saying I do not generally like horror movies. Which is why I was completely surprised to find myself loving this one (*Disclaimer* If you are of the faint of heart variety, I suggest you give this film a miss as it is rather scary. If you can handle a little thrill every now and then, however, do read on).

Sam Raimi’s 2009 horror flick, Drag Me to Hell starring Alison Lohman was one of the most thrilling cinematic experiences I’ve had in a long time. It was scary, funny and camp all rolled into one.

Lohman plays Christine Brown, a bright-eyed Los Angeles loan officer. She doesn’t want much in life- just a promotion at her job, a happy future with her boyfriend (future husband hopefully!) and a shot of happiness- just like the rest of us. But when she turns down an extension on a loan to a mysterious (and scary looking) Mrs. Ganush (played by Lorna Raver) a curse is placed upon her and all hell breaks loose. This movie frightened me, made me laugh out loud on several occasions and thrilled me with its twists and turns… Overall a rollicking good time- and very apropos for this Halloween weekend don't you think?

I do hope you'll stay tuned for my number 8 pick...

hmm not convinced about this- but then I think the scream films are fantastic guilty pleasures so maybe I should try it!

I thought this pick might shock a few of you (it shocked me!) but I can't keep it to myself. I loved this movie! It's more supernatural thriller than horror movie, anyway. I hope you all enjoy it! xoxo

Fun series of posts. (Don't generally like scary movies.) This one sounds good - have never heard of it before.

This was scary to me, too. Especially the teeth, and the old woman's nails. Even the way she taps them on the desk. And the way she gums her face, oh and the end. And and and....
My family thought it was 'corny', but like you, it really affected me. Uggghhh.. shudder. Great write-up. I never know where to begin...

I'm a big wimp when it comes to scary movies. I watch with my hands over my eyes sometimes so I can barely peek through. ( Like that really helps)

So maybe I save Drag Me to Hell for a night I don't have dinner guests? ;)

You did surprise me...but I like being kept on my toes. Have NO idea which direction #8 will take us...

Thanks for reminding me, I really want to see this movie, too! We don't get to watch scary movies until they come out on DVD, since we have two little ones and no baby sitter :( Found you through Kristi at La Bella Figura, glad I visited :)

Post-Modern Jen- Thank you for your comment and welcome to my blog! I can imagine it is difficult to watch scary movies if you have little kids. This will be a fun movie to rent and watch with the curtains drawn... I hope you enjoy! xo
