On Shapewear Pantyhose

Thanks to the Duchess of Cambridge and her ladylike influence over fashion, pantyhose is now in vogue again! I recently bought two pairs of Spanx Super Shaper Sheers because I wanted to try out the pantyhose as shapewear trend and see if there was anything to it.

I really like the idea of shapewear built into a pantyhose. There is less you need to wear as the shapewear also acts as your underwear (for lack of a better term)...

I also like the feeling of wearing shapewear. I've worn Spanx for years- I like how they flatter the figure and keep things looking smooth...

I also like that the Spanx pantyhose come in 10 different colors, which makes it easy to match your skintone.

The downside is these tights are very delicate and can snag easily so be very careful when handling them.

Spanx Super Shaper Sheers sell for $26. I got mine at Nordstrom.

I would love to know... what are your thoughts on pantyhose? Do you wear them? Or not?

Great clip. I've always been interested in wearing shapewear but have always felt that they wouldn't be very comfortable to sit down in or eat in. Is this the case? x

Hi Beautiful Things- I actually love shapewear and think it is more comfortable than traditional underpinnings. I know it sounds crazy but when wearing a dress or skirt I just like to know that everything is properly covered and that my silhouette looks smooth. I only wear shapewear if I'm wearing a dress or skirt though. I do know people that wear them under trousers. And I've had no trouble eating in them. They sound ominous like an old fashioned girdle or corset but it's not the case at all. These modern designs are very breathable and expandable... Let me know what you think if you ever try it out! xo

I don't have any Spanx but I do own a body shaper which I wear with knit and jersey dresses. Being a larger gal I like to keep things from jiggling!
I will definitely look into these hose. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
You are such a great resource.

You are dangerous, Jennifer. You could sell me anything! I haven't tried Spanx before (although suspect I badly need to). I imagine I'm in the G range :) For my wedding, I wore shape underwear which did suck it all in but looked like Grandma. xx

Good post, I've been wanting to try Spanx! Nice to hear someone's review. I agree, Duchess Catherine makes pantyhose work!

I haven't been wearing hose for the past 6 or 8 years ( I'm 45), but did wear a pair of L'eggs control top with boots and a dress to a wedding a few weeks ago. I had Kate Middleton on my mind! There were a number of over 40 women at the wedding wearing too short of skirts - I felt rather pulled together.

I don't usually wear panty hose, but I do wear tights in cooler weather with boots or shoes and dresses or skirts. I am a little overweight, carry the weight in my middle (I know, bad for your health, I'm trying). I find most shapewear to be torture! I have 2 solutions. I buy a much larger size than the package indicates for my height and weight, even a plus size which would seem to be too large. But my favorite solution is DKNY Comfort Control Top Opaque Tights. I love these! They are a no-waistband style and are very comfortable. Sorry for the long post, but I'm always on the lookout for comfortable control tops!

A few thoughts about these:

I'm glad hose are coming back into fashion, too. I've never thought bare legs looked very dressy and too many girls slap on too much orangey colour fake tan. A pair of panty hose is a much nicer option.

In the US loads of panty hose used to come with a gusset in the crotch - the sort of leaf or oval shaped piece in the seam that made it possible to wear the hosiery without underwear; I did that for most of the 70s and 80s. Here in Britain, most hosiery does not have a gosset, so they are not comfortable without underwear. So I'm assuming Spanx have a gusset - and for $26, they fine well ought to.

The other thought is that shapewear might help if you are a slender woman (size B indeed - if you weren't so sweet I could hate you) just wanting a little help. My experience with controlling underwear, however, is that it just pushes the extra flesh to somewhere else, ie muffin top, or higher - or below the end of the legs. I think someone needs to have a good look at themselves - back as well as front - before deciding if the shapewear gives them the look they want.

Finally, in my experience, it takes longer to get to the loo, so best leave a little extra time!

Enjoy your videos!

Hi ladies- I hope you all had a great weekend! Who knew the shapewear pantyhose would draw so much interest? Certainly not me! The YouTube vid had over a thousand hits this weekend! I think this is something that not a lot of people talk about so let's get into it! :)

Hostess- that's precisely why I like them- they prevent jiggling! Especially for jersey dresses- which I wear a lot...

Josephine- You are hilarious! I love hearing recommendations from other people so my intention is to give people my take on things and to hopefully hear yours in return! I did not wear shapewear on my wedding day as I didn't want to have a Bridget Jones moment :)

LR- Spanx is great. There are hundreds of other shapewear lines on the market now though - I haven't tried any others but would be interested to. They are also getting 'prettier' and more lingerie looking which always helps...

Genuine Lustre- I bet you looked fab at the wedding- good for you for working it! That's why I like shapewear it can make you feel more confident...

LunaStitches- Ooh I will have to try the DKNY control tops. I like to wear tights too- I actually wear them more than sheer hose. I get my tights at J. Crew usually but I am liking the shapewear trend that also acts as underwear...

Shelley- Thank you! Yes they include a gusset so you do not have to wear underwear- they are your underwear. You're right they are pricey I would love if they were less expensive especially because I snagged my black pair right out of the box! As for the sizes maybe going up a size would work? xo

Hi Jennifer,
I like your video! Congrats with all the hits with people watching it!!!!
Question??? Is it proper to wear pantyhose with open toe shoes???CHEERS Michele xx

Hi Michele- Thank you! I would not recommend wearing pantyhose with open toed shoes. It never really works. The best thing for open toed shoes are nice pedicured feet! XO
