Guerlain's Figue Iris
I must admit that I have been in somewhat of a fragrance slump lately. I still enjoy reading reviews and entering discussions on some of my fellow bloggers' sites about the latest in the world of perfume, but I would find myself going without scent for days. I think I was just recharging my olfactory battery...
So I was surprised when I went to Sephora yesterday and wandered into the fragrance section to test their wares. I came across Guerlain's Figue Iris from their Aqua Allegoria collection.
The bottle was the first thing that called to me. Simplistic, yet opulent looking, I picked up Figue Iris. Figs are my favorite fruit and I have enjoyed iris scents like Prada's Infusion d'Iris, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was skeptical, however, as I have yet to find a fig fragrance for the body that speaks to me (I'm still not a fan of L'Artisan Parfumeur's Figure- although I haven't given up on it yet).
Let's just say that I got my proverbial "groove" back with this scent. Light and effervescent (perfect for one who is slowly entering back into the fragrant world), Figue Iris has a succulent fruity and powdery note. It is green and fresh and feels like the perfect fragrance for the emerging Spring.
In fact, I'm so used to not wearing scent lately that I forgot I had it on throughout the day and wondered what that 'heavenly aroma' was... I think that is always a good sign!
Guerlain's Figue Iris contains notes of Fig, Iris, Vanilla, Vetiver, Bergamot and Pink Grapefruit
Figue Iris can be purchased at: www.sephora.com
It's probably because you like figs the fruit that the fig fragrances disappoint (as in those the domineering note is that of the fig leaf, quite a different bitter milky green quality).
ReplyDeleteBut this one has a sweeter undertone and is more powdery, which I guess makes for its appeal to you.
Enjoy!!
Hi Helg- I sampled it again today and like it just as much...
ReplyDeleteAnd you are spot on about the fig issue- I have always liked it to scent my home...
The powdery note is what makes this fragrance so lovely for me.
Hi Daily, I think it's natural to have a scent break sometimes- even I do!!
ReplyDeleteThis one does sound good, I can't remember it but with the AA's I tend to try loads at once and get very confused!
Have you tried Philosykos by Diptyque? That's my favourite fig so far.
Hi Rose- I have tried Philosykos and I do like it... It's been a while though...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you take a break too! I think it is equivalent to recharging one's battery. That way you come back refreshed :)
I adore Philosykos, it's the smell of summer.
ReplyDeleteYes I do take breaks! only a day or two long but I take them!
Sounds delicious - shall have to have a try when next I am in Sephora. Thanks for your lovely comment on French Essence and I hope your writing is coming along well, xv.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki- do try at Sephora... I hope you like it! Also- the writing is coming along well... I'm having a lot of fun with it... Thanks for asking!
ReplyDeleteHiiii sweetie :) I do love figs and it is quite possibly the fruit I crave for most due to its rarity. It's really hard to find here in the Netherlands and when it is found, it is a disappointment, devoid of flavor and only good for cookig with. (I make the most scrumptious starter with figs btw)
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree w/ Helg's estimation though, because I like my fig perfumes (And I LOVE my fig perfumes) green and leafy, for that's one of the happiest smells in the whole wide world. It instantly brings to mind sunny, hot holidays in Greece, when approaching a fig tree you can smell the delirious green scent before you even manage to spot it. I invariably turn to my companions: "FIG!" Which is the signal for "Whatever we are doing, forget it, we are fig hunting, tresspassing and stealing if we must." LOL!!!
I love L'Artisan's fig and I adore Aca Luxe's fig too.
PS: The particular battle cry can also be translated as "STOP THE CAR, I have spotted a fig tree!" by the driver, if we happen to be in a car at the very moment :P How versatile can one word be, if the people you're with know you well :P
ReplyDeleteAnd wild/unripe fig-milk allergies be damned. I will put up with slightly bothered lips for a couple of hours, just for those minutes of pleasure. What a piggy =^.^=
Divina- you crack me up! Finally I have met someone who loves figs (I think) more than I do! We have a fig tree in the back of our condo that only produces about three measly figs a year but I am always the one out early in the morning and late in the evening picking them so no one sees me! Oh dear...
ReplyDeleteThe fig scent that finally reeled me in was Antica Farmacista Fico Verde Room Diffuser...I'm on my second one....
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol- I am always looking for home fragrance and love diffusers... I will definitely try!
ReplyDeleteSounds sublime - I'll have to try it..:)
ReplyDeleteBonjour Here There... I hope you like it! Have a wonderful and fragrant day :)
ReplyDeletei'm looking for a new frangrance too, will definitely check it out in the shops, thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHi Tina- I hope you like it... let me know what you think!
