Sherlock Holmes- The Movie

I am not sure if it is possible to convey my excitement with words right now but I will endeavor to do so.

I just saw the trailer for Sherlock Holmes the movie starring Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law and I'm jumping with **happiness** inside! This film, directed by Guy Ritchie, stars Robert Downey Jr. as the original mastermind detective, Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law is cast as his infamous sidekick, Watson.

My obsession with Sherlock Holmes has been going on for the past twenty years (at least) since I was a little girl. I loved watching the Jeremy Brett version on PBS with my family and the first time I went to London, you better believe that 221b Baker Street was the first stop on my list of tourist attractions (yes, even before Buckingham Palace).

It looks like Guy Ritchie's movie will be a sexed up/ Hollywood version of the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and I'm OK with that. In fact, I'm more than OK with that- I can't wait!

Sherlock Holmes comes out Christmas Day, 2009.

You can view the trailer here.

  1. It sounds good! I'll have to look out for that one. I keep missing movies as I don't get to the cinema in time and then they finish in a few weeks! I must say, 'Jude' is not the person who would have sprung to mind when I thought 'Watson' but it could be inspired casting! Enjoy your week and happy writing! xx

  2. Hi Josephine- I had the same initial reaction- but I think I am ok with this 'sexed-up' version. At least he'll be easy on the eyes! :)

  3. ah...eh... I am so shocked. I didn't know about this. I can't imagine Robert Downey JR as Sherlock. At all. And Law as Watson? ARGH!!!! This creates so much dissonance in my brain! LOL

Who do I like as Sherlock? Ah, I really will have to go check my dvds. We have this british series (they are movies really, but i think it was tv only) which was exceptionally cast.

Dream Sherlock would be a young-again Michael Caine who was so perfect in the hilarious Sherlock parody Without a Clue. Hey, I can dream, right :)

No, I mean seriously, they should have at least made Jude play Sherlock! What is this? Unbelievable!

I will watch it of course :P Hihihihi

  4. Divina- Lol! You sound the most disturbed out of all of us! Trust me, it took me a while to wrap my head around it- especially because I just started rereading some of the original stories- but I think one must accept it wholly and just go along for the ride :) You're right though... a young Michael Caine would have been brilliant!

  5. I really hope this is good. I like Jude Law and think he could do with being in something decent and I love RDJ. Plus they shot in London which always makes me happy of course.

  7. DC- just saw Jude in Hamlet and he was wonderful! Not just because he's easy on the eye, he's a very good fit for the part.
