Outfit of the Day Casual Lunch

I can't believe I've been blogging for six years and this is my first outfit of the day (OOTD) post! Better late than never though, eh?

This video was shot in mid-December for a girlfriend lunch (Hi GinaMarie and Sandy!). It was a casual lunch at Fig restaurant in Santa Monica.

Outfit:

Blush silk Equipment blouse (a core item from my Ten-Item Wardrobe Fall/ Winter video)

Royal blue blazer from Banana Republic (you'll recognize this from many posts over the past few years)

Paige skinny jeans (featured in my fall/ winter Ten-Item Wardrobe video)

Camel suede Ferragamo pumps (another old favorite of mine that have lasted over 5 years now)

Long gem-stone necklace

Please keep in mind when you view these fashion videos: it is not the brand or the price of the clothing that matters. In fact, I've considered not mentioning any brands because they are not important. We all have different styles, budgets and ideas about what we'd like to wear. The purpose of these videos is to show you what one woman (me) does. They are meant to inspire, not to instruct. Most of the fun is figuring out what works for you budget-wise and style-wise.

Check out this week's video for an up close look at my outfit. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or check out my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur.

And please let me know in the comments section if you enjoy these type of videos and would like to see more of them...

♛ I'm really happy to announce that both Italy (Piemme) and Poland (Literackie) have picked up the rights to my second book. I'll be officially announcing the title soon. For now it is maintaining its air of mystery... x

See you next week :)

  2. I enjoyed this video so much and hope you can continue making these videos!!! Personally, I would love to see what kind of outfit you wear to the airport when traveling with your children. I will be flying with my 21 month-old daughter this summer and I still want to look presentable while feeling comfortable taking care of my girl at the airport and on the plane. :)

  3. lovely post, thank you Jennifer.
simple and classic is best, as you've shown, and plain colors (even though I love liberty prints!)

    hope you enjoyed lunch!

  5. These videos are a great idea Jennifer -- on the spot for you and "real life" for us. I love the colour of your shirt, I am of a similar colouring to you and I never considered that colour.

  7. :) Everytime you mention Santa Monica, a song by Savage Garden comes to my mind, my twenties, ToruĊ„, beautiful city of my country. Greetinngs from Cracow, Poland. Congrats for the book spreading successes!

  8. I didn't even know what OOTD stood for!! Loved it though :) I asked a while ago but what I'd love to hear about is how you schedule your time. How do you order your morning ie do you get ready before kids are up etc. I find this tricky. My kids are clamouring for breakfast before I have a chance to get dressed! How do you fit in work, writing etc alongside mothering, socialising, couple time, exercise... The list goes on :) A big thank you BTW for reminding me about music. I have always loved music but had got to a point of feeling too busy to take a second to put some on. Now it's the first thing I do when I get up which is what my Mum always did too. Really sets the scene for a calmer start to the day. Also a huge thank you for introducing me to the unthethered soul. Wow! Amazing book. I'm needing to read it slowly to allow time for proper absorption. Thanks again xx

  9. Please continue to mention the brand names of your clothing. Thanks to your your posts, I have discovered several brands of clothing from which to purchase my wardrobe. I do not live in a big city, and I do not shop often, so I look online for some of the brands you have mentioned which I would never know existed without your posts. For example: Equipment blouses (which led me to Joie blouses), and DVF wrap dresses, which I love. Keep it up!

  11. I would love to see more OOTD posts. It's always interesting to see how you keep the 10 item wardrobe fresh in the day-to-day.

I'd also love to see an updated version of your typical hairstyling - the curls you usually wear are quite lovely!

  12. Jennifer, I would love to see many more of your daily outfits! I think I actually prefer still photographs to video, though. I felt like I didn't get a good look at your whole outfit at once in this. Would also love to hear about French parenting, if you have any experience in that area! But maybe that topic is part of your next book... Can't wait to hear more about it! Thanks for your great blog. Rita

  13. Lovely Jennifer. And I must say, I saw one of your instagram pics reading with your girls, even then you look so stylish in a casual setting. So admirable! Can't wait to find out what your next book is about. I'll be pre-ordering for sure!

  14. Love the look-of-the-day vid! But I agree that it was tough to see the whole outfit at once, which would have been nice.

And your hair looks lovely! Why bother curling it? Haha. Yes it looks great curled, but it also looks gorgeous as you have it in this vid.

  15. Lovely video! Would love to see more. I have just lost over 50 pounds and am learning how to dress myself again. This was very helpful. I have a question about "The Untethered Soul". Are we to have already read the entire book by February, or just the first few chapters? How will the discussion go? Thanks Jennifer.

  16. Yes! This was great fun and I really enjoyed how you put the different pieces together; it gave me some good ideas. Thank you.

Congratulations on the new book, I can hardly wait to read it.

  17. I loved the OOTD post; please consider doing more of them. I appreciated the anecdote about how you prepared your makeup for the activities you anticipated and your change of clothes for the park. It's a nice reminder of how to juggle the variety of life with elegance!

Also, I think it's great to share the brands you wear. I wouldn't have known about Equipment (which I now adore) without you. :)

  20. Hi jennifer,

I love to see your OOTD. You are so inspiring to me on a lot of aspects of my life and thank you so much. I love your book too! Looking forward to your second book!

I love your hairstyle now and can you show us how you use curling iron to style your hair? Your hair always reminds me of Kate Middleton. please show us!

    Best,

  22. I generally don't watch the videos (I hardly ever watch any blog videos so it's not personal) but I like the photos and content. I wouldn't mind seeing more of these. I mean it's great to say you own X number of pieces, but I love seeing how you would really put them all together. It just goes to show how accessories can really change things when you keep the rest of the look classic.

Also I like that you included the brands (and how long you've had some of the items). I always include the brands because someone may be interested. Also if you're showing something that's still looking great 3 years on then I want to know who's selling it! I'f I'm looking to make a new purchase I want to know I'm supporting brands that are putting out quality pieces. It's a win, win.

  23. I'm glad you showed this. I've started my wardrobe remodeling and love it. I've started focusing on what I will alter and then buying pieces that work.
I have a hard time with casual looks, both office casual and when I'm in mom mode. Particularly with heels. I normally wear 3.5 inch heels since I'm short. But they seem too much during the day with jeans. Yet, my Toms seem a bit too casual for work. Maybe a good heel like you have will work.
Can you also do an accessory wardrobe post? I need help with necklaces especially with button up tops.
Also, just got clarisonic for Xmas...love it!

  24. Thank you for sharing your outfit of the day. I like the philosophy of a 10 item wardrobe. What would be your advice for someone who lives with 4 distinct seasons? I'm in the midwest and January has been especially cold.

  25. I admire you. You look absolutely lovely because of your intelligent planning and self-dsicipline. As an English teacher, I can't resist a little reminder, ala Madame Chic. The past participle of run is also run. "I would have run a curling iron..." Ran is simply the past tense. "I ran a curling iron." Mais oui, English is a very weird language.
