Curling Iron Tutorial, Hair Chat & Maijan GIVEAWAY

This week we are exploring the world of hair. I have received a lot of requests to recreate the curls I wore in my New Year's Message video as well as an update on current hair care products I'm using. This week's video gives you both. We start with the tutorial, in which you'll note that the secret to having soft, voluminous curls (I think perhaps the Duchess of Cambridge employs this look every now and then?) is to alternate the direction of the curl with the curling iron.

Check out this week's video to see the entirety of the tutorial. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or check out my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Here is a list of the hair care products discussed in the video:

Pureology Super Smooth Shampoo

Pureology Super Smooth Conditioner

Pureology Super Smooth Relaxing Hair Masque I use this once a week or so in lieu of regular conditioner.

Maijan Pure Argan Oil & Mint Hydrating Shampoo (Amazing stuff! check out the giveaway below to win your own)

Maijan Pure Argan Oil & Mint Hydrating Conditioner The mint provides a tingling sensation shortly after applying. You feel as though you are really nourishing and cleaning the hair.

Living Proof Primer Style Extender This is a primer for your hair that, I find, makes styling last so much longer.

Pureology Colour Stylist Anti-Split Blow Dry Cream A great heat protectant to apply before blowdrying your hair.

Pureology Colour Fanatic Multi-Tasking Hair Beautifier This heat protectant is so great because you don't need to keep reapplying it if you use different forms of heat. One application and it does the job.

Mason Pearson Boar Bristle Hairbrush An investment piece, but one that makes the hair soft and smooth. It's worth saving up for one...

  1. I love that my hair is naturally curly. I used to hate it, but now I am grateful for it.

I, would love to see some more styling hair videos. This one was great! :)

  2. I love all your videos, but your lifestyle videos are my favorites.

  3. When my hair went from pin straight to curly in my early 20s I struggled to find the right products. The Purology Antifade Complex Texture Twist is absolutely the best I have tried, and I have used it almost everyday since. Most other products seem to leave my hair feeling "crunchy." I haven't tried any of Purology's other products, but now I may have to give them a shot. (I don't dye my hair so I cannot attest to the efficacy of the Texture Twist's "antifade" properties)

  4. Thank you for this video! I've struggled with what to do with my hair for the last year and recently cut it....major regret! I will continue to grow it out and then try your suggestions.

  8. I love that my hair can be sleek or curly depending on my mood! I would love to see more "3 minute style" videos like the one you did with the cute chignon style at Christmas.

  10. I love my long layered haircut because there are so many ways to style it. I've had variations of this haircut for years, and it never goes out of style.

  11. Great video. Beautiful curls! Now I want to try those products and get a Mason-Pearson brush. Do you wear your hair down at night, or do you pin it up somehow? My aesthetician told me to pin mine up away from my face at night to avoid face products causing skin problems, but I haven't found a great comfortable solution for putting it up.

  12. I like the thickness of my hair, but at times it can be a pain. I would like to see more hair styling videos as I am always looking for new ways to style my hair.

  14. Great video! I am trying to love my hair. For too long I have tried to go against my natural texture (wavy) and straighten it. It is too time consuming! So, I have decided to embrace my natural texture and spend minimal time styling it. I think I am due for a good haircut and some great products. I think that will help me LOVE my hair!

  15. Grat giveaway! What I love most about my hair is that *it's just hair*! I don't get piercings or tattoos because they hurt and/ or are permanent. With my hair I can go a little crazy with cut and color because if I don't like it or grow tired of it, I can just painlessly cut it all off and start from scratch. Hair is FUN! I would love to see you do a video about an easy updo for everyday.

  16. My hair is fine, but I have lots of strands. It gets weighed down so easily by styling products. I need to check out these brands to see if they have anything lightweight for volume and hold. My hair never seems to hold curl. I defintely like the updo videos as I love to put my hair up.

  21. I'm happy to have hair. Most of the women in my family have thinning hair. I struggle with volume for fine. thin hair and how to get cool tone highlights. Most of the colorist say they understand ash tones, but my highlights are always too warm for my pink skin tone

  22. My hair is naturally curly - so it sometimes can be frizzy. Would love to find a shampoo to help with this. Thanks!

  23. My hair is shiny and straight and getting so long! I love it.

  26. I love that my hair feels the healthiest ever in my life. Not sure if it is biotin I started taking, or going to an Aveda salon to get my highlights. I would love videos about french hair cuts!

  27. Thank you, Jennifer, for your time and smile shared with us. I love the simplicity of that technique also like your nail polish colour very much and am waiting for that video comparing hair brushes :)

  28. I most love that my hair is long, dark and feels like silk. I have fine hair and so I work with little tips to keep volume up without damaging the silky nature of my hair. I have found that adding protein rich volumizing sprays and acidfying conditioners give me the hair I want without unwanted side affects. I tired your tips above and while I used a smaller barreled iron - I loved the results. Doing the curls in alternating back and forward wraps gave it a pretty fun look. thank you.

  29. I like my long, curly hair. I would like videos on how to braid my hair by myself.

  31. What I like most about my hair is that it's still very full. I'd like to learn how to keep my curly hair from frizzing when I straighten it.

  32. My hair is not only wavy but a bit frizzy, so I'm always struggling with that aspect of it. Your hair always looks so soft and never frizzy. Do you attribute that to your hairbrush and hair products or are you one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to fight the friz? :-)

  33. I bought the Maijan shampoo and conditioner, and I love them! I also bought the Pureology hair beautifier spray, and love that too! My hair gets less tangled and looks shinier and less frizzy. Thanks for the recommendations.
