Maca Latte Tutorial and Wink & Winn Giveaway

I have two treats in store for you on this special Thursday post on the Daily Connoisseur. First is the video tutorial for my Maca Latte, which is set to Mozart's Marriage of Figaro and just might be the most dramatic drink tutorial on all of YouTube! Second is the Wink & Winn gift card giveaway, which I know many of you are excited about.

Maca Latte Tutorial

Maca powder is a Peruvian superfood. It is is a root that grows in the Andes mountains. The Peruvians have used maca for its medicinal properties for hundreds of years. Packed with vitamins and minerals, maca is known as a natural stimulant-free energy booster. It benefits the skin and particularly women's health and mood. You can read more about maca here at VegKitchen.

If you don't have health food store near your home, Amazon have a variety of maca powders on sale at discounted prices. Check out their list here.

To make a standard maca latte you will need:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (in the video I use soy, which is fine too but I prefer almond)

Splash of vanilla soy creamer (if you use vanilla almond milk you will not need this)

1 heaping tablespoon of maca powder

Sprinkle of Raw Cacao Powder (This is optional. Available from health food store or Amazon)

1 frother (optional)
1 mug or teacup
saucepan and spoon

Heat one cup of almond milk and a splash of soy creamer (to taste) in a saucepan while stirring constantly. Pour half of the milk mixture into a cup. Place the maca powder in cup and pour the rest of the milk mixture on top. Using a frother, mix well (around 30 seconds) to prevent the maca from clumping up. Sprinkle raw cacao powder on top. Serve and enjoy!

This recipe makes one serving. Double it up for two.

**Have fun making different variations: add a spoonful of Nutella for a hazelnut latte, put in a teaspoon of flax seed powder if desired, add more cacao powder for a mocha latte.

  1. I love water with lemon and mint actually as my daytime beverage! But I can always go for a good latte. Yum! What a lovely giveaway Jennifer!

  2. I've never been a fan of latte, but this may be worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love coffee and earl grey or rooibos tea, both with milk and a bit of vanilla. I'm intrigued by the maca latte... this may be a silly question, but what does maca taste like exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Lemon Water and Herbal tea from Traditional Medicinals.

    Great video, I love maca!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I look forward to your next book!

Always fun to read your posts whether you are speaking about manners, food or fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Tea, tea, always tea. Herbal tea, lately, but actually any kind.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Great tutorial! My favorite daytime drink is hot tea.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I've tried making a maca latte before, but it ended up being a latte with maca sludge at the bottom of my mug :-(
I only have one handbag, black with lots of zipper embellishments! I'd like one that's a lighter color and a bit simpler.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like to make mint tea with mint leaves-hot or cold it is so refreshing!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Living in mountainous Asheville, where I do a lot of walking, I'm in desperate need of a cross body bag. While I've seen some online, they all seem a bit rough around the edges, designing my own bag would be a dream come true.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've never tried almond milk. Dairy milk gives me mucus, so maybe I need to try the almond milk. I don't like coffee, but I like the social idea of coffee. This is a fun way to try a coffee-like drink.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I like a good cup of tea. I never get to drink it hot at home though - I get sidetracked by the little one :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I' sooo excited for this giveaway! What type of handbag does my wardrobe need right now? A good black bucket bag! I love abyss-y bags, and they have to be able to be shouldered. Wink & Winn had a picture of a beautiful braided handle on their FB page beck in Feb that would be perfect on their bucket bag! I also like smaller crossbody bags (with adjustable strap) that fits my wallet, phone, and a few small items. I don't like a lot of pockets on a purse.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What type of handbag does your wardrobe need right now? I've been looking to add a large white leather bag to my wardrobe. Something multi-purpose and summery!

    ReplyDelete
  15. The latte sounds good and Maca also sounds like quite the superfood from the page you linked to. I wonder if you could make the latte with regular milk, since I don't really use the various alternate milks out there.

Anyway, thank you for the recipe and for the Wink&Winn opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh and also, I find a soothing cup of Earl Grey tea to be a refreshing pick-me-up during the day

    ReplyDelete
  17. Iced coffee is my drink of choice, but I love Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Lattes as well.

If I won the Wink and Winn giveaway, I think I would choose the bucket style like yours.

I am a "purse whore", I must admit; I have been carrying handbags since I was four years old.

Love your blog; and am looking forward to your new book this fall!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tea (hot or iced) is my favorite beverage at any time. I loved the music on the tutorial, but I don't drink any kind of milk, so I won't be making it. I mostly own big pocketbooks since I carry a lot around with me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I drink kombucha during the day. It's a fermented tea beverage with lots of good probiotics. Thanks for the video! Vicki R.

  28. Yay! Thank you Jennifer. I've been waiting for this. I usually stick to herbal teas during the day but I've found the second coffee of the day has snuck in. It's winter here in Australia now and very chilly so this will be a perfect afternoon coffee replacement.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm an espresso and steamed water girl, then switch to water with lemon for the rest of the day. The bag my wardrobe needs is a cross-body bag for traveling! ReplyDelete
  40. Love your soundtrack, Jennifer! I have french press coffee every morning and water throughout the day. Sometimes in the afternoon if I'm needing a pick me up, I'll bring out the press again :)

I'm in need of a bag with a good shoulder strap. My current purse's straps are shorter so even though it can go over my shoulder, it's a bit more difficult to do so while juggling my 9 week old's car seat and diaper bag! It would be so awesome to win a lovely bag to add some glamour to this newborn phase :)

  78. Hej! I'm a swedish reader and I hav a question as to why you do not use dairy milk? I find this in many american blogs. Is dairy not considered healthy in the US? In Sweden we eat sooo much dairy, and I never question it. However, my toddler doesn't like the taste of it so he drinks "oat milk" .. don't know the english word. Many thanks from Stockholm for a GREAT blog! / Katarina Johansson
