At Home With Madame Chic
The wait is over. At Home With Madame Chic: Becoming a Connoisseur of Daily Life comes out today!
This is a very special book for me because homemaking is one of my great passions. Sadly I believe the subtle art of keeping a home is something that is dying out in our society. We all lead such hectic lives full of outside influences, sometimes our busy schedules put our homes at the bottom of the priority list. We take our home for granted. When we do our daily chores we would rather be doing anything else in the world. At Home With Madame Chic aims to bring pleasure and passion back to your daily routine and to revive the art of homemaking for the benefit of the entire family.
Here is the book description from Simon & Schuster:
Approach life at home the Madame Chic way: a beautiful, illustrated toolbox of tips and ideas for organizing, entertaining, and savoring a stylish life.
When she arrived at Madame Chic’s Parisian apartment as a foreign exchange student, Jennifer Scott was a casual California girl who thought sweatpants were appropriate street attire. Madame Chic took Jennifer under her wing and tutored her in the secrets of how the French elevate the little things in life to the art of living.
Years later, Jennifer was back in California with a husband, two young daughters, a dog, and her first home. Every day she confronted mundane duties like folding laundry and unloading the dishwasher, and she began to think about Madame Chic’s home—how the breakfast table was set beautifully the night before, the music that always played in the background, the calm of Madame and Monsieur Chic’s ritual cocktail hour together. Jennifer wanted that life. She decided to see what would happen if she didn’t perform her chores impatiently or mindlessly, if, instead, she could live like Madame Chic.
At Home with Madame Chic reveals the secrets to having a happy, fulfilling, and passionate life at home. Jennifer explains the morning send-off need not be chaotic, it’s possible to look stylish with minimal time and effort, a little forethought makes it possible to serve a home-cooked dinner every night, and details like music and scented candles can set the tone for the whole family’s evening. Organized by the pleasures that can be found throughout the day, this charming, helpful book is full of ideas, playlists, recipes, beauty routines, and advice that can turn an irritating day into an enjoyable experience.
Over the coming weeks we will discuss many of the valuable topics in this book. I look forward to delving into it with you!
If you enjoy reading At Home With Madame Chic, please help spread the word: share it with your friends, write a review online or mention it on your social media outlets. By helping to spread the message of Madame Chic and The Daily Connoisseur, together we can make the world a classier place. Check out the video above to hear more.

ReplyDeleteI know that your book will be a huge success...
I enjoyed receiving and reading the advanced readers copy that you sent to me. Thank you again.
I love the recipe for the homemade cleaner and have thought of you often as I go about my daily domestics listening to classical music!
XO
Congratulations! I can't wait to receive my copy!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! I just ordered both of your books today.
ReplyDeleteI'm unable to view the video. It says "uploader has not made this video available."
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! I have also ordered a copy. I'm sure it will be a huge hit.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

I just received your book in the mail. I can't wait to be inspired.... AGAIN!!! You've added so much to my life already!
ReplyDeleteMy copy downloaded this morning but I've only had a chance to read a few pages. Can't wait to really dig in as soon as I get some of those mundane things out of the way. Congrats on your new book!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jennifer! I'm looking forward to your second book so much, I hope my pre-ordered copy is winging its way from Amazon to Australia now. I'm so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I just finished reading it and really enjoyed it. Well done. I look forward to incorporating many of your suggestions.
ReplyDeleteI received my copy today - its arrival lifted my spirits after a long work day! So I made a cup of tea and began reading. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYeah! Please, please, please make the audio version happen. I would love it if you narrated.
ReplyDeleteJust received my copy today! My questions are: do you still keep in contact with the chic famille? If so, do they enjoy your two books?
ReplyDeleteAnd: have you been back to Paris since those days?
Thank you!
Congratulations, I will certainly be putting it on my list of books to buy!
ReplyDeleteI stayed up far too late last night devouring this book. It's absolutely lovely, and so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI truly believe this book will change my life. Just this morning, I made a point to get up a bit early to ensure enough time to tidy the house a bit and enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing this with us.
Congratulations! I downloaded my copy today and dove right in. I am only allowing myself a couple of chapters a day. I want to savor and absorb the contents! Chapter 2 on falling in love with your home again really struck a chord with me. Like so many little girls (and boys!) growing up, I enjoyed a great deal of time playing house....preparing meals for my dolls, ironing their clothes, making their beds..etc Why not rekindle that playful attitude now that we get to do such things in our own homes as adults?! You have reminded me that playing house can still be fun at the age of 39!
ReplyDeleteMy copy is landing in Illinois tomorrow! So excited both to read it and for your success!
ReplyDeleteI am already putting your tips to work! I tidied up the kitchen and some hot spots before going to bed last night and it made the morning so much better. Just needed a little inspiration and you provided it.
ReplyDeleteI am a little confused about your instructions for watering the African Violets though....is it just me? Maybe a video :)
Can't wait to get home from work and keep reading!
I received my Kindle download yesterday and I, too, stayed up way too late reading it : ). Your words and ideas really have brightened my day today, and my girls and I are trying your chai recipe for our afternoon tea today. Thank you!! And, congratulations on a job well done!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I can't wait to get my hands on it.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered...since the wonderful women in Paris have been such an influence on your life, do you still keep in touch with them?
Hi :) Just wanted you to know that I nominated you for the One Lovely Blog award today (I promise I'm not spamming you). If you want to participate or just know more about it, this post http://littlebrightthings.com/2014/10/09/one-lovely-surprise/ has the rules :)
ReplyDeleteHello Jennifer, I have just received notification from Amazon that your book is on it's way to me in Australia! I thought you might like to know.
ReplyDeleteA copy is one its way to me even as we speak. I can't wait to read it! Since I found your blog, I have read through your previous ones back to the beginning. It was rather reminiscent of Memento (one of my favorite films, by the way.). Although some of the things you speak about, I was already doing (Being a minimalist, I am already uncluttered and have a small wardrobe. Don't hate me.), there is much that I learned as well (How to apply foundation properly with a Beauty Blender, concealer under the eyes, the proper way to blend eye shadows together).
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I noticed by going back in time this way was how you have gotten lovelier each year. I think that the lessons from "Madame Chic" are becoming more a part of you with time. But I think that is true with some of us: there are some people that just give up and let themselves go with time; then there are others who finally figure out what works for them and what doesn't. Obviously, you are in the second category.
Anyway, I look forward to the book!
Looking forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteI ordered online and then couldn't wait for it and picked up a copy at the bookstore. Is this a lack of self-discipline? tee hee... Now I will have a copy for a friend. I devoured the book in one day. My only unfulfilled wish was for it to be longer. The next day I felt so inspired that I pruned my roses, changed all the bedsheets, and cooked a pork roast in advance to be enjoyed later in the day. This was all while wearing a silk dress with an apron which made it all more fun. I am lucky to have two homes, but it's quite the housekeeping and organizational challenge (no housekeeper). I really needed the inspiration and the reminder to love both my homes, both my favorite and my less favorite. Thanks to you for your candor about the challenges you face in your family, Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteI have been a fairly consistent reader of your blog the last few years but I have never commented. I just finished reading your new book (I know, I know I read it too quickly!) and left a review on Amazon.
I loved your new book, especially the second section. And although I have read your first book many times, I feel that I will reread this one many more =)
My only question I was hoping that you would address in the book: with young children (I am also currently in that stage), how are you able to entertain? Are your children there when you entertain or do you find a sitter? How do you invite people who also have children? =)
Thank you so much for your wonderful, new book. I look forward to future books! As I finished this one I couldn't help but think how lovely a Pleasures of the Seasons book would be :)
Oh, yes, and my husband synchronistically brought home a set of crystal wine goblets he found at a customer's sale. It seems it was our day to delve into being chic!
ReplyDeleteI was so looking forward to reading your second book that I pre-ordered it from Amazon in the States. The book is not available for another month here in the UK. It was so worth it! This book speaks to me as if it was written especially for me and I will turn to it again and again, just as I have with Lessons. Jennifer, you are a very talented writer. When I read your books I actually seem to hear your voice and see your face and it is the loveliest feeling. It feels like I am listening to the advice of a very dear friend. Thank you for writing this inspiring book. I second Ashleigh Wade's request for a Pleasures of the Seasons book next.I just know that you would have so many ideas on living beautifully through the seasons of the year. Your ideas on flow would be very relevant here. Please consider this idea for the blog as well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I hope to see sooner in Italy!
ReplyDeleteJennifer! It's a wonderful read and given me a new lease on keeping up with the housework. 15 minutes.. it works! Really well. I should have the place squared away in the next couple of months and still have time to smell the roses, blog, consult, etc. .
ReplyDeleteKeep fighting the good fight!
Chris
Jennifer, I am currently reading At Home with Madame Chic, and I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying it! I love your perspective on homelife and being a mother to young children. I also appreciate that you are standing up for style, grace and manners. It seems our society has devalued those concepts recently which I find troubling. We've needed a voice from the younger generation to stand up to say these things are still important. I'm glad you've done that. Hopefully more young women will follow in your footsteps.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, you come and visit us in AZ for your next book signing. :)
