Pregnancy Chat Part 2- Your Facebook Questions Answered

Today's video is a continuation of Monday's pregnancy chat. This time I answer your Facebook questions. We discuss everything from visiting guests, to organizing help, to baby blues, to loving your changing body and much, much more. Thank you to everyone who submitted questions for this video. I am sorry I was not able to answer each and every one. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Regarding last week's post, please note: before trying a new drink (such as the Teeccino Herbal Coffees mentioned in last week's video), or trying a new prenatal vitamin after birth, always consult your doctor first. It is very important that you have your doctor's OK before making changes to your diet and plan.

Testimonial
Nina M writes: Hi Jennifer, I wanted to tell you that after seeing your TED Talk a few weeks ago, I got rid of 70% of my "impulse buys" and "on sale" clothes and picked out the jewels to wear each day. You are correct about how good it feels outside as well as on the inside to wear my best each day. The tidy organization of my closet also has changed the way my mind is organized! I try so hard now to eliminate the "junk" from my life: food, profane music, and Facebook perusing. Thank you for the inspiration and for the passion to do what you do! You have made a difference for me.

Dear Nina, thank you for your email. I am thrilled to hear that the ten-item wardrobe was a catalyst for you to make other meaningful changes in your life. I am sharing your testimonial with the hopes of inspiring others to do the same.

Question of the week

Regarding the cellphone etiquette discussion, Lily writes:

I'm coming in a bit late with this discussion but I would be very interested to hear your view point on what happened to me last night.
My husband and I were invited to a barbecue at our son's house. After a while my son and his dad were chatting so I went to talk to my, soon to be, daughter in law. She was texting (I think) on her phone so I didn't say too much but sat for a while in, I thought, companionable silence.
After a while I tried to engage her in conversation - she answered me but continued to focus on her phone. I tried again but whatever she was doing on her phone was more interesting to her, so I sat for a little while and then moved away to talk to our son.
It actually made me feel that I was not worth talking to. She tends not to answer texts or to say thank you for presents either and this makes me wonder if she disliked me - yet at other times she is friendly. I continue to be polite and gave her a hug before we left but this is another consequence of bad manners - it causes those on the receiving end to feel, at best uncomfortable, and at worst, wondering if they have done something wrong.

Dear Lily, thank you for sharing your experience with us. Unless your son's fiance was dealing with an urgent or time-sensitive situation, I do believe it is impolite to ignore someone at a party (especially your future mother-in-law) and pay attention to your phone. If she was dealing with something that couldn't wait, a simple, "My apologies, I just need to send this message," said to you would be fine. It could be that your son's fiance is timid around other people or has social anxiety. Perhaps none of these are true and she is one of the many people who don't think anything is "off" about that kind of behavior. Either way, you must not take it personally. You can be a good role model for her by being the picture of poise whenever you see her. She might not have many female role models in her life and you could be an important one for her. Thanks again for sharing your story.

This week I would love to hear from you about any of the pregnancy topics discussed in the video, the testimonial or the question of the week...

  1. Thank you for being such an inspiring individual. The honest and open dialogue in a poised and elegant manner is incredibly soothing. My husband and I would love a large family one day too. Your discussions remind me to be present with what is so right now. Not getting caught up in the plans of a future life, without taking those necessary actions now that will support a relaxed, chic environment and mindset. Over the past few weeks I've been working from home and my 'to do' list has been getting left to the side with a general disregard for keeping up the structure to support the easy flow of the day, meditating has also not been happening. I'll justify this with the thoughts of when X,Y or Z happens then i'll be up at 6 every day and cleaning, sorting and fully organized. I'm reminded by your video of the notion of Be, Do, Have and not living the other way around! Taking actions to make a mindful approach become second nature now, being powerful, deliberate and active. Thanks for the reminder! Katherine :)

  2. Loved reading all your books and your blog. Love your ten idem wardrobe, it has helped me to define my personal style tho I will also say it's changing since I'm done having kids now. So refreshing to see women in dresses, I love dresses but I have always gone back and forth in wearing them because I feel so outta place. No one wears dresses anymore. So happy to just be myself and be different. You have also inspired me to take a more minimalist view and only have the things in my life that I enjoy. Thank you so much. I feel like we are friends from another state. Also wanted to mention the brand Leota to you they have great dresses and some would work for nursing, I love how they have dresses for every women, tho I will say some are a little bold for my taste.

  4. Hi Jennifer,
This is my first year truly implementing the principles you teach in your books which I love. I am curious to know if you or any other daily connoisseur fans ever found it almost overwhelming at times. I have found there is a lot to purchase to look presentable always. From my ideal 10 item wardrobe, pajamas, shoes, and make up. How did you do it? one purchase at a time? Do you have any tips or strategies on pulling it all together? Even mentally, some days I feel great while others I feel I am not chic after all. Thanks for all the hard work I'm learning so much from you and other sharers.

  5. Valerie Christina, if I may, I have managed to get my wardrobe down to a capsule wardrobe that I love by just going one purchase at a time. I replace items I need with items I love. For instance, I had a straight skirt from WH/BM that served me well, but I wouldn't say I loved it. But I wore it until I found one I could be excited about, at Anthropologie. Once I got the new skirt, I put the old one in the Goodwill bag. The important thing is to be excited by your new purchases, and to LOVE how you look in them. AND to get rid of the items that they are replacing. I have very few items in my wardrobe, and I tend to wear them over and over again. But I was doing that when I had more clothes. So I just got rid of what I wasn't wearing. It is such a great feeling to wear things you love -- even if you are wearing them ad infinitum.

  6. Hi mimimanderly,
Thanks for the advice. That's what I have been trying to do but I still hold on to a few items I do not wear that really just need to go, and I need to be patient. I love the 10 item wardrobe, it makes me think about what I'm buying and get honest about what I actually feel best in.

Believe it or not... I am already pregnant within few after his help. contact him today with any kind of problem and be happy like me on:

  10. Once again, thank you for these videos Jennifer! I stumbled across Madame Chic right after I became a first time mum in the summer of 2013, and I cannot express how much your insight and sharing of your own personal experiences have helped me. I emailed you that fall regarding nursing and clothing, and you actually did address this in one of your videos. It can be so challenging to find clothes that you feel good in when nursing a young one, especially if you haven't curated a capsule wardrobe yet or invested in the right pieces for your actual needs. I am almost 6 months pregnant with my second right now and you have inspired me to order a few Seraphine dresses for the remainder of my pregnancy, but mostly for nursing. I have been lucky enough with my pregnancies to not require many maternity clothes and (thus far) have been able to get away with wearing regular, albeit looser, tops and dresses. In hindsight, I think this was part of my problem at feeling dissatisfied with my wardrobe after having my son, and Madam Chic has helped me to see that. This time around, I am actually excited to invest in some nursing-friendly items that will help me to look presentable, while being much more functional than what I was trying to make work for me last time around! The dresses just arrived today and I am so pleased with the cut, quality, and feel of them -- I would actually be inclined to order more even without being pregnant or nursing! It might be the same thing everyday, but it sure will be hard to feel down about my post-baby wardrobe this time around since I have found something that I feel absolutely lovely wearing (not to mention comfortable!) that is going to adapt with all the body changes yet to come, both pre- and post-birth! Thank you for always being an inspiration, and good luck with baby #3!
