Today I'm really excited to share my in-depth interview with Jamie Cat Callan, author of the new book, Parisian Charm School.
Here is the description of Parisian Charm School:
We all know that French women don't get fat. But their famous je ne sais quoi comes from more than just body type--something anyone can master: the old-fashioned art cultivating our inner beauty, confidence, and unique personal style, at any age.
From savoring the everyday beauty around you to engaging in captivating conversations, playing dress-up, hosting impromptu dinner parties under the stars, and of course mastering the art of French flirting, the lively and inspiring lessons in this “syllabus” will help you rediscover your beautiful, fierce, romantic, engaging best self—to attract the best of everything into your life.
Ready to embark on the adventure of your life? Parisian Charm School is in session….
Fans of Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic will enjoy Jamie's unique take on what gives French women that je ne sais quoi. She and I offer different perspectives and, combined, I think we cover all bases! :)
At over a half an hour, this is an extra long video for my channel. Jamie and I had so much fun chatting, the minutes just wiled away! We discuss everything from how to choose the right colors in clothing, to surprising differences between French and American culture. We also touch on some touchy/ controversial subjects including French lifestyle stereotypes.

Comment of the Week
Yesterday I gave my annual Epiphany Sunday Tea Party for my daughters and daughters-in-law. There are six in total. Our theme was the "Ten Item Wardrobe" and we watched your Ted Talk. Before watching the Ted Talk, we had fun doing a little quiz to see if our skin tones were warm or cool, and then we talked about what colors worked best with our skin tones. As a party favor, I gave each of the girls a copy of "Lessons from Madame Chic". It was a great afternoon of promoting the Daily Connoisseur lifestyle!
Happy New Year!
Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth, that is so neat! What a fun idea to do a Madame Chic tea party. It sounds like you all had a fabulous time. Happy New Year to you too!

Oh my goodness- I so enjoyed this post! Love, love, love both of you.
ReplyDeleteHello Jennifer,
ReplyDeletethank you for this wonderful interview; I enjoyed it very much. I especially like the Skype format, because seeing the people talking makes it so much more personal, like having a chat with old (or new) friends. I am halfway through reading Jamie's book and have put her other books on my list of books I want to read. Her first book, "French Women Don't Sleep Alone" is actually only $1.99 on Kindle right now; I am not sure for how long.
One of the things I enjoy about the book is the practical advice on how to implement these ideas in our everyday lives, no matter where we live. I also love that about your books. I can read about an idea or concept, but then I also get suggestions and inspiration on how to make it my own.
You talk about color and how you like red but feel uncomfortable wearing a red dress because it is too much. I feel the same way about certain colors. That is why I love scarves and other accessories; they can add that touch of a color you love without overpowering the whole picture. You often emphasize it in your Ten-Item-Wardrobe, when you show how to style a rather neutral outfit in different ways with accessories. Thank you for being such an inspiration, and I am looking forward to hopefully more interviews on your channel.
Dear Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a wonderful interview. I enjoyed every moment & am excited to read "Parisian Charm School." You are both so charming!
Happy 2018 and thank you for bringing poise & charm to my life.
Kind regards,
Sandra
Dear Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this amazing interview! It was such a pleasure to listen to both of you. I did not know Jamie Cat Callen before and she seems to be such a wonderful and kind lady. I will definitely check out her books. I wish you a very happy and wonderful new year and lots of fun with your family. By the way, I am really looking forward to your talking about the next two Mapp and Lucia books. I got introduced to them by you last year and have now read all of them. I bought a book where all of them are combined, but it was used, so maybe it is no longer possible to buy it new. Anyway, thank you for all of your amazing work, I am always looking forward to Mondays and Thursdays because of you. Have a great day. Inga
I loved this interview, so fun and enjoyable. I have read all your books, Jennifer and now I am excited to read Jamie's. Thank you for introducing us.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteWonderful interview! Thanks for introducing me to Jamie's books. I wasn't familiar with them. I am also a super fan of yours, Jennifer! I have your self-published book from 2012. I've been following your work for 5 years! I was also born and raised in Connecticut; so I have two things in common with Jamie!
I agree with you both about class and charm being unrelated to wealth. Some of the most horrifying experiences I've had have been with people that are very well-educated and well off. For example, I have been invited to a gathering where the food was BBQ'd in a yard full of dog poop. Also, the children of successful, professional parents can appear less than well-behaved (putting it mildly) if the parents don't spend enough time with their children. I believe it is a matter of priorities!
About colors and clothing and accessories, I really must encourage you (again) to visit Carol Tuttle's "Dressing Your Truth" webpages. These will help you to understand what colors and fabrics suit your energy type and why. The program is now free.
All the best to you and yours,
Alexandra
This was such a fun conversation to listen in on. Thank you for sharing! I’m crossing my fingers for a part II!
ReplyDeleteHello, Jeniffer!
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you that I really love your blog! I can't watch your videos as soon as you post them but it's such a pleasure to catch up once in a while with all the new videos. But at first there were your books for me. Madame Chic books influenced me greatly, I started looking after myself better, looking after my home better, I actually got rid of a lot of clothes in me wardrobe. It's not a Ten-Item wardrobe yet, but I'm working on it with the help of your eCourse. My wardrobe is not very vast, so there are not too many core items, but there are too many extra pieces and it is so less thought through than yours... That's why my wardrobe is still very confusing! But I'm sure with your help it will get better. So thank you for yout books! They are inspirational, funny, interesting. Thank you!
If you are wondering why I am writing this after your interview post, I can explain it by telling you how I discovered Madame Chic Books. It was thanks to Jamie Cat Callan's book. I saw her book "French women don't sleep alone", it got me interested, I was contemplating buying the book for some time, then decided to buy it, went to a bookshop, found the book and on the same shelf Lessons from Madame Chic stood. I read the annotation of your book, looked through it and understood that I just had to buy it! And I really enjoyed both books.
Thank you for the interview, Jamie is really charming! I like how different you are, I like how alike you are! Now I need to go bookshopping... It was such a pleasure to watch this video! Thanks!
