Comment of the Week
Carey M. writes, "Sorry to miss the live chat, but I am really enjoying the video now. I agree with everything you said! I have a couple of really great pieces of advice about gossip that I have heard over the years. My mom always says, “If they gossip with you, they will gossip about you.” A teacher/mentor I had used to teach that gossip is having a stated opinion about something you don’t have responsibility for. She said, “If you don’t have responsibility for it, don’t have opinion on it.” And lastly, never say anything about someone that you wouldn’t say to their face. All of these have helped me avoid gossip over the years."

Hi Carey, your mother has very sound advice. Thank you for sharing her words of wisdom with us!

Thank you for joining me today. I would love to hear your take on all of the etiquette topics discussed in this video. Please let me know what future live-stream topics you'd like to see on this channel.

See you on Thursday for an exciting jewelry giveaway.

  1. Hello Jennifer,

I enjoyed your etiquette chat and I agree with you on everything except one point. There is a big difference between a food preference and dangerous food allergy. In the case of a dangerous food allergy, it can necessary for everyone to avoid the food that is dangerous to the person. This is because even traces of a food can send the person to the hospital. Also, sometimes skin contact with the food can cause the person to break out in hives. Also kisses can transit the dangerous food. One of my children has such a dangerous allergy. Whenever we are with extended family, I always ask them to also avoid the foods to which my child is allergic. If my young niece and nephew are running around with the food on their hands, smearing it all over, which they are likely to do, this could be hazardous for my child. There are always food substitutions that can be made. Butters and spreads made from seeds instead of nuts, for instance. Safety comes first. Thankfully, my extended family values my child's health and understands that his safety is more important than anyone's snack preference.
    Warm best,
    Alexandra

  2. Hi, Jennifer,
I enjoyed your live-chat-video and want to thank you for it. It is always so much fun for me and a pleasure to hear you talking and giving good advice. I think you are really courageous to putting yourself out there, especially with troll people trying to do there damaging work. That is one of the reasons I comment here, just to be one of the other and supporting and thankful voices. I am so grateful that you put the live-chat-videos online afterwards because like this we are able to review them whenever we like. Also, I'm in Germany and both times I didn't have time to follow the chat live and was so happy that I didn't miss them entirely. (Also, I have to admit that I am not an Internet-pro and wouldn't really know how to follow a live-chat on air). Thank you for your wonderful work. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy and send you good wishes from Germany. Inga

  3. Hi Jennifer! I enjoyed your live chat video. I have a question about shoes. When I travel where I know I'm going to be walking a lot, I always struggle to figure out what shoes to wear. I had surgery on my foot a couple of years ago so I have to be careful. All of the "comfortable" shoes I've found are not very "cute" and clunky tennis shoes don't look great with a cute dress. I have the same problem at home if I'm wearing a dress but want to take a walk in the neighborhood. Tennis shoes would look ridiculous but sandals or flats do not seem to be the best walking shoes for long distances. Do you have any suggestions for brands of shoes that you find to be stylish yet "feet friendly"? Thanks so much! Jennifer B.

  4. Hi ladies, thank you for your comments.

Alexandra, I totally see where you're coming from and agree, if it's a life-threatening allergy that everyone should abstain from the food in question.

Inga, thank you so much for your encouraging comment. I really appreciate it! So fun that you can join the live chat from Germany!

Hi Jennifer, I get this question a lot. I can't recommend particular brands, but they do sell athletic sneakers in the form of Mary Jane's etc., that are more flattering. I would go to a department store or other shoe retailer to ask them what they would suggest.

  5. Thanks, Jennifer S. I think Jennifer B. has a very good question. When walking long distances and long days, while being a tourist, I also tend to have trouble with my feet/legs. Most recently, I wore flat riding boots while walking around the extensive grounds at Versailles. I thought the boots weren't such a bad choice, but my legs thought otherwise! I ended up with ruptured veins, very painful, and I had to spend my last day in Paris in bed. For a comfortable, healthy pair of shoes, that could be worn with a skirt or dress, i would choose a Keds type of sneaker. I found a cute white sneaker made of eyelet made by Reef. In this instance, since Jennifer B. had foot surgery, go with the comfortable, healthy shoes. You don't want to deal with a foot problem when you are traveling and trying to enjoy yourself.
    Warm best,
    Alexandra

  6. Vaping is a health hazard. It's worse than rude.
