My New Book: CONNOISSEUR KIDS

Dear Daily Connoisseurs,

I'm so pleased to announce that my new book, Connoisseur Kids: Etiquette, Manners, and Living Well for Parents and Their Little Ones comes out today from Chronicle Books. This book has been a passion project of mine over the past few years. I wanted a book that parents and children could bond over that approaches the subjects of etiquette, manners and healthy living habits in a fun and engaging way.

my video announcement

The book is beautifully illustrated by Clare Owen and is full of creative and engaging anecdotes for your children. You will also find activities, games, recipes, poems and so much more.

My hope is that you and your children take your time and truly savor the lessons in this book. Thank you so much for supporting my work. It means so much to me.

Here is the description from the publisher:

From Jennifer Scott—author of the New York Times bestselling Madame Chic series and founder of the Daily Connoisseur blog—comes this playful take on manners and being a good global citizen. Parents and younger children work together to read about a wide range of topics: communication, table manners, tidiness, thinking of others, grooming, and health. Activities, learning games, fill-in-the-blanks, letter-writing exercises, recipes (for food and for slime!), and some fun songs and rhymes help kids learn concepts and practice good behaviors. Featuring charming illustrations and go-to advice from a trusted source, this is a timely guide for raising well-mannered, neat, and gracious children for parents, grandparents, and children of reading age.

I am giving away 5 signed copies of Connoisseur Kids. The giveaway is open worldwide. Enter via the rafflecopter widget below. The giveaway will run for one week. Winners will be contacted via email and will also be displayed on the rafflecopter widget. Best of luck!

  1. I can't wait to read this book with my family! Such essential topics and great opportunities to bond with each other through it! I've been waiting for something like that for a long time!
Thank you so much Jennifer for sharing your brilliant and creative mind with us!

  2. Hi Jennifer! Congratulations on your new book! I still have a baby, but I am sure it is not soon enough to learn how to live well with our children. I am a big fan of your work!

  3. Hi Jennifer! I can't wait to read this book. I have 2 girls, 9 and 3. My 9 year old does very well with thinking of others, particularly well. But one of the chapters that I plan to really focus on is table manners. Whew! We are really struggling there. I don't believe I've read a book like yours and can't wait! Love your Madame Chic books.

  4. I'm so looking forwards to reading this book! My daughter is 16 months old and just starting to test the boundaries of acceptable behaviour - I'm sure this will be a great resource for teaching her to be a well-mannered young lady as she grows up. We're trying to put good habits in place already - we've been sitting down for dinner as a family religiously since the day she came home from hospital! - but I'm sure there's lots coming our way that I haven't anticipated yet. I'm struggling with getting a cohesive morning routine together, still - it'd be great to get some tips on forming good habits there.

  7. Congratulations on your new book! I am looking forward to reading it. Something we struggle with as of now is my daughter eating nicely with us at the table. Something we have always been good about is having dinner as a family every night.

  8. Congratulations, Jennifer! I'm sure it'll be a gem like all your other books :)

  9. The habit we struggle with is tidiness. The thing we are good at is always sitting down as a family for dinner, although the children's table manners could be improved.

  10. This sounds like a great book and I look forward to reading it. A habit my family does really well with is eating our meals together. We struggle a bit with keeping bedtime routines. Thank you so much for offering this giveaway!

  12. Yay, I'm so excited about the book. I already purchased it but signed up for the raffle too :) My daughter will enjoy this I'm sure. I'm sure it will be a great reminder for me, as I've found any bad habits I have (like eating too quickly) do tend to rub off on my daughter!

  13. Thing we need to work on the most? Being consistent about picking up toys at the end of the day, instead of me doing all of it.

    1. Actually, perhaps table manners :( but kids are both under 2, so patience and consistantcy is needed ☺️

We have a great bedtime routine though!

  14. Congratulations!! Very exciting!

The thing we struggle with is getting out four year old to tell us about her day. When we asked her what she did that day her response is always "everything". And that is it. Just the one word. If we ask her how her day was she replies "fine". Despite my husband and I chatting away about our day or asking more detailed questions her response is always limited. She is a chatterbox about other aspects just not specifics of her day.

What our daughter does very well with is little things like brushing her teeth, washing hands, going to the bathroom and helping with her baby sister.

  15. Yay! I’m so excited to read your new book! Congratulations!! I would say our family struggles to keep distractions, mainly technology, at bay when we should be spending quality time as a family. I personally struggle to keep my entire house clean and tidy. I regularly pick up but scrubbing down the house is so tedious in our older home that often I just look over it until we have company coming over. I know, so not chic! But it’s the truth.

  16. I am so excited for this book and can't wait to read it. Thank you for writing it. We just had our fifth baby this summer so this is exactly what I need right now. We have a good routine of playing games and reading books together as a family. Table manners and tidiness with toys are areas where we are always working.

  17. Congrats on the new book! I am really looking forward to reading it. The habit our family struggles with the most is keeping up with the laundry!

  18. Your book looks absolutely wonderful! My grandmother used to teach etiquette lessons and etiquette is something I deem essential to good living. But not until I started having children did I realize that it was up to me to properly train them in etiquette in all areas--and what a difficult job to do in the current society we live in! This book would be a great addition to any household I am sure!!

  19. Im a new grandmother and I’m looking forward to reading this with my grandchildren when they’re old enough.

  20. Congratulations on your book! It seems like a wonderful one to have on hand!!! I know we struggle with table manners and voice "modulation". I think we are doing pretty well with leaving the house tidy at the end of the day, which has made a huge difference! Congrats again!

  21. I remember my mother having an old etiquette book that I loved to read as a child and now being pregnant with my first baby I searched for resources to make etiquette learning attractive to children. This book came in a perfect timing and I cannot wait to read it! Thank you Jennifer!

  22. Thank you so much for all your work! I've enjoyed the Madame Chic series as well as your YouTube content, and am looking forward to exploring Connoisseur Kids with my 2 year old son. I have struggled with insomnia and debilitating fatigue for years, so our biggest struggle is for me to look presentable always and keeping our home tidy. Our strong points are in reading quality books with our son, and he has minimal screen time. Thanks again for everything you do! Have a lovely day

  23. Congratulations on your new book, I love the cover! My partner and I have our first baby on the way, so I don't have misbehaving children.. yet.. My partner and I could definitely do better in the table manners front, as we usually just crash on the couch with a plate after a long day. I would like that to change once we have children and I think your book will be a good start to make us aware why it's important. We are however polite to other people and have a good awareness of our environment. What I mean by that is not standing in the way of other people on the streets or in stores or taking up needless amount of space. Like manspreading or dropping your purse in an otherwise perfectly fine seat in public transport. I hope to make our child(ren) aware of that too. Is that something you write about in this book Jennifer? Either way, i'm looking forward to reading it!

  25. I can't wait to get my hands on this book! I think it could help our family so much. We are good at presenting ourselves well in public, but we need some help with manners at home, especially at mealtime, as well as hygiene habits. Congrats on this new book!

  28. Congratulations Jennifer! I am looking forward to reading your book! I have two boys ages 4 & 6. The habit we struggle with is calm bedtime routines--the kids are usually hyper and have a hard time listening...and I have a hard time maintaining composure at this time. We do a good job overall of spending quality time together--laughing, playing and snuggling together!

  29. Congratulations! I have the box set of your other books and love them. I am so excited for your new book. I have two boys, my 10 year old and my stepson that is nine. Unfortunately we only get him on the weekends and the people he is around at home aren't the most... well mannered. My husband and I do our best but by next weekend, he's already forgotten. He's highly intelligent and I want the best for him but intelligence without manners can only take you so far in life.

  30. I’m a new mother and so excited to see that you released an etiquette book for kids. My little girl is only 2 months but proper etiquette is the key to a successful day. You can never start too early. I’ve loved all your books!!

  32. Congratulations Jennifer on your new book!! Wish you huge success! One thing my family needs to improve on is listening to each other better and being more present. As my daughter gets older now she’s a teen, we have to find more ways or time to do this with our busy schedule. I feel we are doing well is supporting each other and keeping our family dates priority.

  36. I think the biggest habit my family struggles with is displine in a better night time routine to be able to sleep better which effects other aspects of our home life. So recently, I had some help with getting my infant to go to bed much earlier than before. Having had this help actually helped me to start having a way better night time routine for myself. So now my baby and I go to bed earlier and get more sleep. I remember in your clutter video you said to set a time of day to clear that clutter. So now I have been able to do that. The trend is upward and I'm so grateful for your youtube videos and for being a good role model to me. Now, breakfast time is becoming a joy. I'm now using and enjoying very much these beautiful bone china teacups that I received for a wedding gift every morning. It took me about 8 years to finally use them on a regular basis! I think I only used them about twice in all those years!

A good habit we have is reading. My husband and I love to read! And I'm not just saying that because I would like to have a copy of your new book : ) We really do! I read to my 11 month old almost everyday! I don't know if it's more fun for me or for her ; )

  37. I have been waiting for this book to come out ever since my friend announced her pregnancy. My friend Tessa and I love watching the Daily Connoisseur on YouTube and discussing the three Madame Chic books. With the timing of the book and her becoming a new Mom, I thought this would be the perfect "personal touch" gift for her. I am excited to read it as well and learn new ways of approaching raising children with class.

  38. Hello, Jennifer. Congrats on your new book. Thank you so much for writing this; I have been looking for an etiquette book for children. I homeschool my four children, 3 of which are boys. Try as I may, I feel like their manners leave when we are out and about. I'm trying to improve as a homemaker and trying to teach them to pick up after themselves right away and not wait till it looks like a tornado came through. Thank you for the giveaway!

  39. I think our biggest struggle is with table manners - including myself! I wasn't raised in a family that paid attention to those things and am eager to learn alongside my family.

  40. Hi Jennifer, I am so excited about your new book (and this giveway!). I have read and loved your other books, and now that I have a baby, I am very interested in learning ways to teach her about proper etiquette in social situations, and appropriate behavior at home. She is still little, but it's never too early to start! At the very least, as her mother, I would like to start thinking about our parenting approach before the toddler days are upon us. :)

    Much love,
    Valentine (+ little Clementine)

  41. Hi Jennifer! Congrats on the new book! My struggle is my little 5 year old girl loves to interrupt Mommy and Daddy while we are talking. We do give her opportunities to speak of course, but sometimes we adults have to discuss important things that need immediate attention. Still not sure how to teach her to wait till we are done talking.

    Thank you!

  42. Congratulations again! This book is precious. Biggest issue right now? With the 3yo, remembering to stay seated at mealtimes. With the 1yo, refraining from throwing food on the floor. Lol, I'm sure you can relate! All in due time ;)

  43. I would say our biggest struggle concerns table manners... When I was a child, I didn't have a chance to learn them. Of course, as an adult, I've learnt how to behave properly, but I think it would be very beneficial for my children to learn table manners much earlier! And I really try to teach them...

In turn, we don't have problems with tidiness. The children enjoy cleaning and they like their rooms to be neat. :)

  44. I can't wait to read your new book! I've enjoyed reading and incorporating tips from all of your books into my regular family life. We really struggle with being consistently kind with one another. My children are very young right now so there can be a lot of loud emotions and opinions at this stage. We are really good at gathering together at meals and sitting at the table. My husband is from Dublin and very strict about the whole Irish manners and hospitality. Can't wait to incorporate some new strategies from your book! Thanks! Congratulations on all your hard work.

  45. Congratulations Jennifer! Your new book sounds wonderful & I am excited to read it. I think it will be especially helpful for our son. To encourage him to be the best version of himself. Thank you for this giveaway as well! Blessings!

  49. My copy of your new book came in the mail today. Yay! I’ve only had time to flip through but am anxious to read it. I noticed the “Do I have to eat that?” quiz — so cute! This looks like an awesome book that covers everything. Since I started following your blog, you’ve produced four children and four books —amazing! Congratulations on your latest achievement and thank you for the important work you do!

  50. Hi Jennifer, Congratulations on your new book! The thing that my family struggles with the most is table etiquette and social skills (they're shy). The thing that I'm most proud of is how well behaved my kids have always been. I would love to win a copy of your new book to add to my "Jennifer L. Scott collection"

  51. How exciting that your book is out! I am learning that children do not pick up many aspects of etiquette without conscious effort so I am looking forward to the help and encouragement!

  52. Congratulations Jennifer! I still remember the very first etiquette book I read when I was about 7 years old. It led to a life-long pursuit of etiquette, along with a growing collection of Emily Post books. I am looking forward to passing this book along to my nieces, one of whom has thanked me "for teaching good manners!"

  53. Our family habits are still forming with our first baby (4 months old!) but I am proud that we sit down at the table together for dinner. The little one sits next to us in her seat and we “talk” (babble) about our day. I have great memories of gathering for dinner time and connecting with family so I plan to continue that tradition. We are not doing as well with exposure to music, and I want to make a point to seek out classics for her to enjoy in our home and car rides.

  54. I'm so happy to hear your new book is out, Jennifer! It looks lovely, and I think it's great that you designed it to be something parents and children can do together -- certainly the best way to get the ideas to "stick."

Our family strives to build good habits, but I think our biggest challenge is getting our children to take ownership of their responsibilities. Currently, I feel like there is too much reminding (which feels like nagging). We are working on ways to help that! I do feel that we have a good dinner routine; each child has his/her job, and we eat as a family as often as my husband's work schedule allows.

I can't wait to read your new book, and share it with my littles!

    Cheers,
    Shannon

  58. I am so excited about your book! Congratulations on accomplishing your dream~a dream that will bless and encourage so many. Hopefully, many young people (and old, as well!) will have changed lives and will change others' lives by reading and applying the concepts laid out in your book. It sounds like a very practical and fun book!

  59. Congratulations Jennifer! Well done. I think it is so hard in today's "me now" focused society to help kids learn patience and thinking of others. I see many adults have issues in this area as well. I think there is an issue when anyone cannot sit for a meal without checking an electronic device. We need to re-learn the art of genuine conversation and relationships. If more of us commit, I know we can do it!

This is Mia, from Europe, living in the US. Congratulations for the new book! I'm very interested in it, even though I don't have children. I just wanted to let you know that this is indeed a long needed book in our times. I really appreciate your writing style and ideas and I'm eager to read it. I also want to offer one copy as a gift to a dear friend of mine, she's 83 (and comes from Europe too) and a great-grandmother. She's now a new fan of yours and watches you daily on youtube. :)

All the best from Orange County!

  76. I can't wait to read your new book. I found your blog and Madame Chic books several months ago after reading "A Paris All Your Own." This morning I made a request for my local library to purchase Connoisseur Kids and just received a response that they will be ordering it!

  77. Congratulations, Jennifer! I am so grateful for all you contribute to bringing class to the modern-day home. My two-year-old didn't nap today and I am 24 weeks pregnant, so naps are important for me too. I told myself to sit with your videos for some Mama-encouragement and am so glad I did. I struggle with bedtime and nap. I have a very obedient son, and an extremely strong-willed child, plus one on the way - I'm very, very tired. The habit we do well with is eating at the table as a family: sitting together, trying new foods, eating with candles or pretty table cloths, praying together, etc...

  78. Hi Jennifer, congratulations on your new book!! This book will be on my list for all baby showers that I attend from now on!!

  79. Hello Jennifer! I am also looking forward to your book! Actually I was expecting a book with only experiences and advices how to raise children. It was a really nice surprise that it turns out to be a book also for the children themselves! Really great and creative idea and something else than the usual children education books there exist. What is really unfortunate is that my children don‘t speak English yet but German. I hope that a German translation comes out soon! For that reason I wanted to buy the kindle version on Amazon, but this is not available yet?

Concerning your question: our current family struggle is that the children prolong all activities like putting on their clothes, brushing teeth, having breakfast etc. if I to my husband have to leave the house with them. And this is really stretching my patience often. I have two Boys with 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 years.
What works good are common meals and preparing lunch together, gardening together, reading.
