Welcome to a new homemaking week in the life. Often homemakers are the most work-laden members of the household. Sometimes it seems that while everyone else is having fun, we are dealing with drudgery and our work never seems to end.
But homemakers should have fun too. We need to remember to take regular breaks from our work in order to keep our spirits up... little pockets throughout our day. That might manifest in a late breakfast in our pajamas one Saturday, or an afternoon interlude in the garden. It might show up as a quiet moment to paint our nails or a cheeky jump in the pool. All of these moments you will see in today's video, along with much, much more.
My homemaker series is created to give you encouragement in your daily tasks. You are not alone... and homemaking is remarkable.
Here is my poem featured in the video:
Sisyphus
Housework can be repetitive,
Constantly setting things to right.
It’s at once satisfying and tedious,
This is the homemaker’s plight.
Just as Sisyphus rolled the boulder,
It feels we have done this before.
The tide inevitably rolls back,
Then washes up on the shore.
But unlike Sisyphus, the jobs we do,
Are meaningful at worst.
At best they are the stuff of life,
So let us dive in headfirst.

Comment of the Week
Regarding last week's Grandmillennial video, Laura Jean writes, "Who knew the fact I have my grandmother’s dining set from 1927 would make me hip now! I am a grand-GenXer (42). I have become and expert bread and preserve maker over the past two years and am endlessly amused watching what my friends laughed off as eccentric when I started become The Thing To Do"
Yes, Laura! All of these "old-fashioned" things are coming back in style. Well, we will stick with them whether they are in style or out of style. Thanks for commenting :)
I hope you enjoy today's homemaking week in the life. Remember, homemakers should have fun too! Let us know how you like to unwind in the comments and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

What a beautiful video Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteYou continue to inspire...enjoy your week!
Aren't you so grateful that your home has a pool? Before the pandemic, who would have guessed how important that would be for the recreational health of your family?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of homemakers having fun, but I'm not very good yet at figuring out how.
Thank you for the motivation!
Hello Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the video~ I remember when I used to visit the horses in our neighborhood with my then little boy (now 20 years old). Your feast looks delicious. I am going to make the cherry bars with a couple of changes. Since I am not a big fan of canned cherry pie filling, I will use a jar of drained Dark Morello Cherries from Trader Joe's, and I will also reduce the sugar in the dough. Thanks for the inspiration!
Warm best,
Alexandra

ReplyDeleteThank you, ladies!
ReplyDeleteHostess I loved the geranium you shared on Insta this week!
Toni- sometimes having fun takes intentional work... as paradoxical as that seems...
Alexandra- Thank you!

Jennifer
Dear Jennifer. I just wanted to thank you so much for your homemaking series. I am someone who struggles a lot with stress and overwhelm in my life, and household chores used to be just another stress factor in my life. Then your homemaking series started. I really enjoyed watching you cleaning and cooking in such a calm and beautiful way. Suddenly I found myself doing the same. Instead of trying to push myself and pep talk myself into doing stuff (which was always so stressful) I started to put on some calming music and just do my chores calmly and with a smile on my face. No rush, no pressure, just thankfulness and enjoyment. And when you posted the video about homemaking being the new wellness, I understood why this was so important. You see, I’ve never been good at meditating, mindfulness or yoga. And that seems to be the default answer when your searching for ways to learn how to calm down. But I could never do it, it’s just not for me. But thanks to you, homemaking really has become my wellness. When I get home from work, stressed out and tired, I don’t need to do a fancy yoga and meditation routine. I just cook, clean and the stress slowly fades away.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, you look like a ballerina in the bit where you are glossing the floor walking backwards. A reminder to move gracefully always, even in the simplest moments. And I love your poem!
ReplyDeleteCamilla- Thank you! I really appreciate your comment and am thrilled that this homemaking series is changing the way you live at home for the better. That is my intention. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMargaret- Thank you! I never took ballet, but wish I had. I appreciate it!
I love these homemaking videos! I so often feel invisible and overwhelmed but I feel like these videos give perspective to the big picture of what we do as homemakers and mothers. Loved the poem too! It is tedious but so meaningful and it really is the stuff of life. Thank you! I feel encouraged.
