I am departing from my usual Natural Home with Jennifer video today with a special treat for you. We are going to explore the world of French perfume...
When I first started my blog over 11 years ago, I did many posts on perfume and signature scent. Perfume is such a marvelous luxury and one's own signature scent is such a personal and telling fragrance.
My love affair with French perfume started when I was 18 and visited the Grasse region of France to tour a major perfume factory there. The French love perfume and many French women have a go-to signature scent that they are known for.
I was thrilled when artisan French parfumerie, Sylvaine Delacourte, contacted me to see if I wanted to sample and select one of their high-quality niche French perfumes.
"Perfumes have the power to unleash emotion and to change your mood.
With her understanding of the mechanisms of the olfactory memory and using active listening skills, Sylvaine has been able to create perfumes which compliment our different personalities."
Sylvaine Delacourte, former Creative Director for Guerlain, creates her perfumes around one iconic raw material and explores it in 5 very original facets.
They offer a discovery box, as you'll see in today's video, where you can sample 5 of the perfumes in either the musk collection or vanilla collection for only $4, delivered from Paris to the United States. The videos on her website guide you on how the perfumes are made. They are fascinating!
Once you sample the different fragrances and decide on your favorite scent, you can choose which size perfume you'd like. They charge $80 for the 1 fl. oz and $160 for the 100ml (which is the size I received). The travel sizes must be ordered separately. Sylvaine Delacourte also offers 20% off the first order, which is a lovely discount. Use the code, FIRST20.
You'll get to go through the whole experience with me in today's fun video, plus see a picture of me at 18 visiting the perfume capital of the world in France! I chose Dovana from the musk collection as it was my absolute favorite.
The perfumes are exquisite and I hope to try the newly released vanilla collection in the future. Thank you to Sylvaine Delacourte for sharing your wonderful company with us!
I hope you enjoy today's video.

Comment of the Week
On last week's Bend Soap Co. review, Mimi writes, "Oh, Jennifer! I could kiss you! I have been experiencing a bout of eczema, and borrowed a book from the library that extolled the virtues of goats milk for this. Unfortunately, the writer of the book, who has goats and makes goats milk products lives in Scotland and doesn't ship to the states. I've been improvising on my own by drinking goats milk kefir and also slathering it on my itchy patches. I also found goats milk soap from Zum. But I really needed a body lotion! Your post was so timely! I immediately clicked on the link and did me some ordering! I am so happy!"
Hi Mimi, I'm so happy! That was the reason they started their business was to create a product for their son's eczema. Come back and let us know how they work for you! I love when my reviews can help others.
Thank you for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed this fun video. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

Ooh La La~! The perfumes sound delightful, and the "lily lang" scent in particular sounds interesting. $4 sounds like a great price to try them; so I believe I will do that! My current signature scent is "Flight of Fancy" by Anna Sui~ Not many women have it, and it comes in a lovely peacock-tail shaped bottle.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes,
Alexandra
You sold me Jennifer. :) I ordered a discovery box in both the musks and the vanillas! I really like that the majority of the ingredients are natural, since I try to watch out for synthetic fragrances in products I buy. Also, since Europe has much stricter regulations on harmful chemicals in makeup/toiletries than the US does, I'm trusting that these scents will be safer to put on my body and of a higher quality. Thank you for going "old school" today. I enjoyed learning about this company and am excited to discover my new signature scent!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim
Hi ladies, thank you for commenting!
ReplyDeleteAlexandra, I haven't heard of that Anna Sui scent. The bottle sounds beautiful!
Kim, please let me know how you like the vanilla. I'd like to try those next time.
It's such a delight to get your take on a signature scent and at that reasonable price, I'm going to try the samples to see what I like best. I've always enjoyed Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel and I always seem to get comments when I wear it, so it became my "signature scent." I, too, love your Stella as it's pretty and feminine. Now, let me say that one of my secret pleasures is to look back at some of your vintage "old school" video posts, because I love where you were and where you are now and at every moment in your life, Jennifer, you reach out to others with your poise and your elevated sense of style and polish which is, at the same time, expressed in a down-to-earth, relatable manner.
ReplyDeleteDear Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the new look of your blog. I loved this video and post. I truly enjoy when you go "back to basics" and talk things French. I am 32 and still haven't found a signature scent and I am starting to think it's because of what you mentioned on the video. The perfumes at commercial stores are too strong. I find a few that I like and then end up just being tired of it after a while and never purchasing again. So, I was sold with Sylvaine's collection. I've ordered my discovery box and I am very excited to try. I was tempted to just also order the vanilla collection but I didn't. Maybe next time. Btw, I started a blog a couple of months ago and I was thinking of sharing the process with my readers too, of course, giving credit to you first! I hope you don't mind. I am new to blogging and still don't know the rules of the road when it comes to that. Thank you!
This was intriguing! I haven't worn perfume in years because not much has appealed to me, but I did order a sample pack of each. I'm looking forward to trying them!
ReplyDeleteI noticed on their website that they have a shop in Los Angeles and in Chicago.

I received the Vanilla sample pack today and love it. There are two that are first impression favorites, but I am so happy to be able to be able to see how each wears. Thanks for introducing me to Slyvaine Delacourte!
ReplyDeleteDear Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI love perfume and I enjoyed your post and video so much!
Thank you very much for this recommendation. I got the musk and vanilla discovery kits and went on to get the large custom box because I found so many of the Sylvaine Delacourte fragrances so lovely that I wanted to spend more time with them. (Virgile and Valkyrie are currently in the running for a future large bottle.)
I shared the samples with my aunt and she also loved them and has adopted Vahina as her new signature scent. She hadn't been able to wear perfume in years because of allergic reactions to them, but she has had no bad reactions to these at all! It's really nice to be able to share perfumes with her again.
I was wondering if you ever did try the vanilla scents and if so, what you thought of them.
Any plans for any future perfume posts?
