New Makeup Loves from CHANEL, Bobbi Brown & Hourglass

I've been playing around with makeup recently and wanted to share some new finds I absolutely love. So here we go!

CHANEL Perfection Lumière Foundation
I normally either wear tinted moisturizer or mineral foundation and was looking for something heavier for when I need more coverage. I've always loved CHANEL makeup and this foundation is no exception.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Caviar Ink
and
Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush
I love this eyeliner and eyeliner brush! My friend, Bex, first used it on me for the Rayli photo shoot I did recently and I fell in love with it. I never thought I could apply a gel liner but, it turns out I can. I'm having fun experimenting with the different variations on le no makeup look "defined eye" (my favorite!) I can achieve with this liner. I highly recommend it.

CHANEL Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen
This is really great for when you want to add light under your eyes for dark circles. It also works for any other areas you'd like to add a touch of light (like the sides of the nose or tops of cheek bones). It works simultaneously as a highlighter and a concealer. While shooting this video, the high-voltage lighting I'm using is making it stand out really prominently. I promise it does not look like this in natural light, or even with the flash of a camera. I now know to blend it a little better when shooting my videos! But honestly, I had the worst dark circles the day I shot this video and the highlight pen covered them up nicely. A lot of the online reviews complain that this product wears out too quickly for the price, but I've used mine regularly for three months now and it isn't finished yet...

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
This is one of those fun products to experiment with. I love Hourglass (their tinted moisturizer is awesome) and these ambient lighting powders give your face the effect of being seen through various shades of light.

Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Vintage
A lovely "no makeup look" shade, perfect for that natural, rosy lip.

This week I would love to know... what are your new makeup loves?

My Talk at Harvey Mudd College

I'd like to say thank you to the students of Harvey Mudd's Entrepreneurial Network for being such a great audience last week. The talk focused on my experience as an artistic entrepreneur. I hope I inspired some young entrepreneurs to get passionate, take control of their careers and to let their darkest moments raise them up. Thank you, again, to Harvey Mudd for hosting such a fantastic event! I will share my insights (and hopefully an edited video of the talk) on a future episode of the Daily Connoisseur.

Congrats on your speaking engagement. Thanks for posting the photos. You look lovely! I'm sure your words were valuable to them, as well. Great mentions of you in the Epic blog, and other interview. As far as products I love...I never thought I would get away from my Bare Minerals. I've used them for years and they serve me well. Recently, I've heard great reviews from MakeUp Forever HD foundation and had to try it. I am really pleased with the lightness and coverage. Smoothed on with a foundation brush and it is unnoticeable on the skin. Also, I just found a new lipstick at Ulta and tried it. It is by Lipstick Queen. I tried the Medallion which is advertised as a 'wearable' red and have to say it is really a beautiful SHEER red, that I imagine looks good on everyone- not too blue, not too orange. I like it. http://search.ulta.com/nav/brand/Lipstick%20Queen/0?sli_jump=1

Hi Jennifer. It's lovely to see you blogging again after your summer break. I have recently received the Four Agreements in the mail and look forward to reading it after my current book.

It's interesting that you mention CHANEL Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen, English Lisa Eldrigde is also very fond of this so between the two of you I'm convinced to try it. Have you seen Lisa's blog? www.lisaeldridge.com

Thanks for your very refreshing approach and tips. I'm picking up great ideas at 58.

I've been a huge fan of Chanel's Lumière range for a while. It's the only make up that looks completely natural on my skin and doesn't feel heavy.

Oohhh...just tried the new Bare Minerals Loud and Clear Lip Balm. Really like it. It's about time they came out with a sheer, emollient, lip balm. Fresh, light, and moisturizing. Very nice.

I use Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner as well, I like it way better than MAC fluidline. Goes on nice and stays on a long time. I use both caviar ink & chocolate brown. I did use the BB eyeliner brush at first, and it did a good job... but it wore out very fast and I did not want to shell out money every few months for a new eyeliner brush...the brush hairs tend to curl up, no matter how many times I would clean it and smooth it out after every use. Instead, I use one of my makeup brushes I already had, which works far better (a straight-line eyeliner brush, I think it was a cheapie from Costco that I bought years ago!) I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer too but I am going to look for a powder foundation that has more coverage but is not super heavy. Might try the Chanel.

I recently purchased the BB Caviar Ink eye liner (as well as the brush) and I totally agree, it is perfect. I was using MAC fluidline, but BB is so much easier to apply and the brush is perfection.

Thank you for the post. I'll have to check out the Chanel recommendations; they sound lovely.

I can recommend BB Gel Liner, and have used it for several years. I like the Demin Ink. Its dark blue, but 'reads' soft rather than 'blue' on my eyes. I bought it after a make-up artist recommended dark blue eyeliner to help "over 30" eyes look younger (yay!).

I also recently bought a BB gel liner and the ultrafine eyeliner brush! Sadly, I had an allergic reaction to the gel liner. The brush, however, is fantastic and I really love it. It works just as well used with powder shadow as an eyeliner (just dampen the brush a bit first).

Isn't Bobbi Brown gel liner great? I love them, I've got them in several colors. Glad you love yours!

My new makeup love is Guerlain Rouge G color for the fall, Madame Reve. The packaging is so chic, the color is nice and fresh, the formula is non-drying. Guerlain is so quintessential Parisian -- more so than Chanel, I should say.

Am very much loving Chanel makeup at the moment (mascara, quad eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick) and went to try the base you recommend but was persuaded to try vitalumiere (similar but more moisturising I think). Am loving it. Looking forward to your tutorial. Xx

I know this is not related to beauty and makeup but I just wanted to share a wonderful style blog with you. I found out about it last week and immediately though about you and your classic, French wardrobe. http://trini-g.com/
The girl's style is just fantastic and really corresponds to the aesthetics described in Madame Chic.

Hi!
I have just found your book and blog, and I am in love with both!
Please, would you inform me something? I have read about the Brazilian peel clear in your book,
and would like to try it, as I live in Brazil. Where can I find it? Also, what do you mean when say about a woman of a certain age? After 40? Or 50, maybe? I am a jornalist, 51,and would love to learn
more with you how to be a charm lady!
Thank you very much, and all the best for you, from a new Brazilian reader.

Hi Jennifer! I always love your beauty product reviews because your picks are always similar to my personal style. I haven't tried the CHANEL highlighter, but if there are any readers looking for a 'budget' version I highly recommend Mabelline Dream Lumi Touch highlighting concealer. It has same great immulinating quality for less than $7. I was previously using Highbeam by Benefit with very similar results!
