Today I'm sharing an outfit of the day with you. To keep my ten-item wardrobe fresh, I will sometimes layer cropped or short sleeve sweaters over my dresses. Today, I'm layering a navy cropped sweater over my favorite LL Bean dress.
Because it is a cold and rainy day, I'm wearing my dress with fleece-lined tights and these new "Duchess" booties from the Thursday Boot Co. On my nails is Londontown's Full Monty , a wonderful opaque neutral. (Use code JenniferS for 25% off your order). Gold bracelet is by Ana Luisa Jewelry (use code Jennifer10 for $10 off).
The cropped sweater I have in the video is over three years old. The closest short sleeve sweater I could find are these from Lands' End. They are not cropped, but they would work as a layering piece.
Also mentioned in the video are my Blondo booties.
Please let me know if you'd be interested in seeing a video about my boot collection.
I hope you enjoy hearing about my outfit of the day in today's video.

Allyson P. writes, "I’m with you on wearing real clothes, Jennifer. After retiring 3 years ago and wearing yoga pants for most of that time, I recently switched to wearing “real clothes.” Your FaceBook posts were the catalyst and I’m glad I made the change. I get dressed, do minimal makeup (red lipstick), and do my hair (also minimal with reliance on a great haircut). Then I do whatever I have to do."
Hi Allyson, that's wonderful! I love hearing testimonials like yours. It really motivates me to carry on. I'm so happy for you and this journey!
Thank you for joining me today. I would love to know what your favorite outfit to wear is this month...

Beautiful outfit! And yes, I would love to see a post about your boot collection! :)
Cropped ankle boots! I had a huge smile on my face and was laughing as you commented on the preferred name of your new boots. You're so funny and joyful. I love your outfit and the creative way you add to your ten-item wardrobe with this clever layering technique, Jennifer. Your recommendations are truly the best and I'm probably a clone of you in some small way as I bought the Aphro fleece leggings and love them. We've been having such cold, wet weather here in Southern California, and I've been wearing them often, so thanks for sharing this find and your link. I also bought the L. L. Bean dress in a different pattern (a navy polkadot print) and it is so pretty, soft and comfortable. I've been looking for Chelsea boots and when I'm ready, I'll take a closer look at these. I have an old pair of black suede "ankle boots" by Sam Edelman that I just had re-dyed at the cobbler so I can get some more wear out of them. Thanks for sharing your outfit of the day; you look lovely every day.
Hello Jennifer,
Lovely outfit! I am also nostalgic, and I love the Victorian era as well. I also bought some ankle boots this year. I found my Naturalizer black leather ankle boots on Zulily... So, they were very reasonable, especially since Zulily owed me some money. Ha ha ha! I also found some brown leather riding boots on Zappos. They are Ralph Lauren, and they were under $100~ I am going to look at these sources for some reasonable leather brogues/oxfords. Where there is a will, there is a way!
Warm best,
Alexandra
I finally ordered that LL Bean dress! I, too, love wearing dresses, but my body type is a bit different from yours, and I have a terrible time finding dresses that I think are flattering. I have returned more dresses than I can count. But I loved that LL Bean dress since you first introduced it, so I finally decided to give it a try, but was fairly pessimistic. Well I am delighted! It's lovely, and is a very flattering fit! I'm so glad I gave it a chance, and equally glad that I ordered two of them (they were on sale)...I got black and a lovely print. I will wear these over and over!
Hi ladies, thank you so much for commenting.
Anon- I will share my boot collection. Thank you!
Vicki- thank you! It snowed in California today. It was crazy!
Alexandra- that's great! I've always been afraid to buy shoes on zulily but I'm glad to hear you had a good experience.
Bliss- wonderful! I wasn't sure if you were going to love it as I was reading your post. Glad it had a happy ending!
Jennifer xx
Yes, please no more 'booties', ha ha. This word only means a little baby's knitted boots to me, so I'm always flummoxed whenever you say it for something that looks sophisticated like ankle boots or Chelsea boots, which are the terms I'm more familiar with.
I missed your not doing the 10-item wardrobe this season and really enjoyed this post. Hope you'll do more of them!
Also, I think it's great that you show through your ongoing fashion-sharing how preferences change over time, as I think that's likely true for all of us. I recall from your first book your preference for a very specific, limited color or colors for nail polish, and now you seem to enjoy a wide variety. There's no right or wrong answer, it's just preference, and that's nice to see too.
