Welcome to another Homemaking Week in the Life video. This week we are delighting in the mundane. Baking banana bread, pressing flowers, gardening, and cleaning. Oh, and writing again :)
True joy can be found in homemaking if we delight in the mundane details of everyday life.
“You may think that being chic has nothing to do with the most insignificant and mundane moments of the day. Moments like preparing your meals, emptying the dishwasher, and paying bills. But the secret is: those moments aren’t insignificant. Au contraire. They are very significant. That’s right—if you can change your attitude about making the pasta sauce, choosing your clothes for the day, folding the laundry, setting the table, or dealing with the incoming mail, you can completely change your life.”

I love these homemaking videos--thank you! Sometimes as I'm rushing to get something done in my own house, I hear in my head background music from one of these videos and picture the slow deliberation with which you go about your tasks, and it helps me to slow down and remember to revel in the everyday. Like you, I find great relaxation in the garden--you just have to accept the natural pace of life there. Every blessing, Susanne
I love these videos! Would you mind sharing your nail color? It’s gorgeous!
Susanne, Thank you so much! That is my goal with publishing these videos. Wonderful!

This series is so inspiring! As a fellow homeschooling mom of 5, I look forward to all your videos and my girls watch with me too 😊 I have loved all of your books so I’m excited to learn more about what you’re writing next 😊 Have you shared where you got your large wooden cutting board? I’ve been looking for an oversized board like yours with no luck. Thank you so much for all your do!
This homemaking week video was so lovely. Just a pleasure to watch. I watched it twice!!! I feel like I've been a guest in your home. Thank you. (donna from SC).
Delighting in the mundane is so important; thank you for sharing. We can view the innumerable tasks that make up our day as tedious, or we can choose mindfulness and take interest in the details.
Your grin as you ducked through the grape arbor reminded me of an interaction I had the other day: an acquaintance politely mocked me for my enthusiasm about the small things in life, like a bright blue robin's egg in the forest near my home, the smell of clean laundry, and my unvaried cup of coffee that delights me every morning. I just smiled and thought, "Yes, but I'm so much happier than you are..."
As a word nerd, I was interested to discover that 'mundane' comes from the Latin for 'world'. It is the mundane that makes up our world and proves a daily testing ground for character, kindness, and joy. Like you, I choose joy!
P.S. I'm delighted that your toenails look like ripe strawberries. :)
I am a new subscriber and really appreciated the respite that this lovely video provided as I waited in the car for my husband while at his doctor’s appointment. Thank you Jennifer - you have been an inspiration and motivate me to make the most of our home during this time of abbreviated social contact. Please tell me - what is the lovely piano music playing in this video?
Hi Jennifer
Greetings from Brazil! Read your books recently and loved them! It is great to know your blog as well, this is my first time here.
Thanks for the amazing work!
Jennifer, Thank you for inspiring me to Delight in the Mundane as I Make My Home a Priority. I return to your books for motivation and I am in the process of reading Home Comforts. I thought of you a lot this weekend as I refolded all of my towels and sheets and cleared out and donated excess sets of both. I wish you continued success.
Jennifer,
I'm a little confused. You talk about snacking not being chic, but you seem to have snacks, like this banana bread, that is clearly not a meal. How is this not a snack? Can you explain this discrepancy, or, at least, what seems like a discrepancy? Thank you.
