Your Morning Routine Should Be Magical

5:41 AM 3 Comments

Your morning routine should be magical… Did you know that? Allow me to explain.

Welcome back to The Daily Connoisseur. I’ve always been a morning person. I like getting up in the morning. I feel optimistic when I get out of bed. I feel grateful that God’s mercies run new every day. Usually, a good night’s sleep can wash away sorrows and frustrations.

Shakespeare wrote: “And sleep, that sometimes shuts up sorrow’s eye, Steal me awhile from mine own company”

Ah, I felt that one. But I digress. We are here to talk about a morning routine and how it should be magical. Well, after sleep has shut up sorrow’s eye, and you wake up, the magic can begin. Many people think that a routine is mundane and boring, but quite the opposite is true.

It is in the recurring details of your everyday routine where true magic happens. You might feel like you’re going through the motions, but the momentum over time of your dedication to these small, quiet moments of the day, will reap benefits in your life that are unforeseen.

Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” He was right, you know.

Everyone’s morning routine will look different. I can’t tell you what to do. Some of you will like to go outside and do yoga. Some of you will want to go on a quick run or go to the gym. Some of you will want to read something inspirational. Some of you will want to get some writing done. Some of you will want to walk alone in the garden, during the most renewing time of the day, when the sun is rising. Some of you will pray and meditate. Some of you will plan. Likely you will do a combination of many of these things.

Glirst Air Pod Case in Vintage Bloom, Moon Phases Cloth Journal , Boxed Ink Pen in Dusty Blush

I’m about to tell you the secret key to all of this: the only thing that matters is that your morning routine is intentional. You will decide on everything you will do. You will know why you’re doing it. You will pay attention to the small whispers of life that happens to you during this time.

Rumi said, “The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.”

We know our routine should be intentional but did you ever consider that it should be magical too? I mean that through the intention, a certain magic happens. Think about it. Why do we do a morning routine? What’s the point? Why don’t we wake up whenever and do whatever we feel like every day? You’re being intentional for a reason. You want to design a certain type of life.

One of the Chic Assignments this month is to journal your gratitude. I’ve been doing that since the beginning of the year. It’s a new aspect to my morning routine. I ignored the advice on this for awhile. I thought it was enough to remain grateful in my prayers. But wow. When you write down why you’re grateful and for what, miraculous things start to happen. You start to notice the good in everything. Even bad things that happen to you… those experiences become your teacher. There’s something really powerful… dare I say, magic, about writing things down. So I’m writing down my dreams and goals this year and what I’m grateful for. It’s been powerful.

My second book, At Home with Madame Chic, encourages the reader to be driven by the pleasures of the day. This advice remains solid in my own life. When I wake up, I am immediately excited about the pleasure I will take from my first sip of coffee. Of the feeling I will have when I step outside to check on the birds and greet the plants in the garden. I am driven by these pleasures and they feed me. Each encounter is magical and sets me up correctly for the day. So let me ask you this question: what are the magical moments of your morning routine? What do you look forward to? How can these moments drive you throughout your day? And a final word: keep your morning routine sacred. Don’t share it with too many people. These intentional magical moments are building something great in your life. They add to the je ne sais quoi that makes you so wonderful. Embrace it. Your morning routine should be magical. I hope you enjoyed today’s video and that every now and then, when you encounter a magical moment, think of me and smile. I’ll be thinking of you. Love, Jennifer

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Daniela writes, "Oh I love #5! "Act as if it's impossible to fail" - I took a mindset course once that said there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. I loved that because essentially that's what life is all about. Giving us "feedback" on the choices we've made. Something that we see as "failure" is just a sign to course correct, or let go, or trust in the lesson that is being taught.

Great editing in this video, by the way! Very visually appealing. And finally, the color of that Rungolee blouse is stunning on you"

Hi Daniela, I love that perspective: there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. Thank you for sharing that with us!

I hope you enjoyed today's video and that it inspires you to fine tune your morning routine and make it magical.

The Ultimate Sleepwear Guide for Women 2022

6:23 AM 1 Comments

Welcome to the ultimate sleepwear guide for women for 2022. Today I'm introducing you to several high quality sleepwear brands that you might not have heard of before.

Looking presentable always, even at night, is a main message of my work. I believe that taking pride in your appearance opens up a whole new world of beauty for you and affects you on every level. The sleepwear I'm modeling for you today can give you ideas for the style of sleepwear you'd like to wear at home.

Momme Silk is a wonderful silk brand that has very wearable sleepwear pieces. These are perfect for women who are looking for casual and non-fussy elegance.

Momme Relaxed Short Pajama Set Daily15 for 15% off
This is a simple but luxurious shorts and tank set that would be perfect for a hot summer's night.
The red velvet slippers are from Amazon.

I loooove this set. It is so chic and comfortable. The top has a crewneck t-shirt cut with a longer hem in the back. This emerald green color is so beautiful.

To me this is the quintessential "lady of the house" style nightgown. It is very elegant with a perfect midi length. The bust area has lining and the straps are adjustable.

The Ethical Silk Company is a UK based company that ships worldwide. Their silk pajamas and robes are ethically and sustainably made.

The Ethical Silk Company Mulberry Silk Robe in Kochi Blue is sustainably made with 100%  Mulberry Silk with navy piping, French seams, and pockets at the sides. What a beautiful robe. You feel like a Queen when wearing it. I love that this company is committed to creating sustainable sleepwear.

Neiwai You probably know them from the barely zero bra that I'm always raving about, but did you know they do sleepwear too?

Neiwai Classic Embroidered Pajama Dress  JS10 for 10% off made from their signature Refresh Cotton with elegant button-up style French lapels. How chic is this?

Neiwai Classic Embroidered Pajama Top and Pajama Bottom  JS10 for 10% off Also in Refresh cotton (a cotton and modal blend) with elegant French button-up lapels.

Kindred Bravely is a wonderful maternity and nursing brand that has beautifully designed undergarments and sleepwear.

Davy Piper is known for their amazing undergarments like the Patsy multi-pack (which I highly recommend) but they also do fun and wearable sleepwear too.

Davy Piper Haisley Pajama Short Set JenniferScott20 for 20% off in breathable bamboo premium fabric.
I love the soft bamboo fabric for this chic tailored pajama set.

Mer Sea & Co You know them for their chic wraps and sweaters but did you know they do sleepwear too? This is one of my favorite pieces...

MerSea Moon Dancer Sleep Tee and Sleep Pant These pajama separates are so comfortable and gorgeous. I love the wide-leg pant and the satin details on the pant ties and shirt back. The epitome of comfort.

Not Just Pajama This company is for all the fashionistas who love uber-high-quality.

Not Just Pajama French Style Long Set  Jennifer12. for 12% off Made of high quality organic silk, with customizable embroidery available, the French Set is an elegant set inspired by 1930s and 40s glamor.

Not Just Pajama Gentle Pearl Pajama Set Jennifer12 for 12% off is another soft, organic silk set characterized by beautiful real pearl buttons and a flattering Chelsea neckline. The Not Just Pajamas are the most luxurious pajamas featured today.

Fleur't is one of my favorite sleepwear brands. I have been purchasing their undergarments and sleepwear for over a decade. Here are two new selections from them:

Fleur't Modest Nightshirt  SELFLOVE20 for 20% off Oh how I love this nightshirt. It has a high neckline, built in shelf-bra, and pretty lace details at the collar and sleeve. The fabric is so soft... it's truly a joy to sleep in.

Fleur't Cami PJ Set in Cheetah  SELFLOVE20 for 20% off This set is chic and fun. When my daughters saw it they said they loved it. Fleur't put such amazing details into their sleepwear. I love the fit of the top and the art deco lace details combined with the fun cheetah print.

Montelle Intimates The bust-support chemise is my favorite item from Montelle Intimates. I wanted to share them again here.

This is their Parisian Kiss limited edition line. The lace details on this chemise are beautiful. SELFLOVE20 for 20% off

I hope you enjoyed this sleepwear guide. I will do a follow-up video to let you know how the pajamas are wearing. It is a pleasure to discover such high-quality brands.

5 Ways to Build Confidence | Lessons in Elegance

6:08 AM 3 Comments

Our Lessons in Elegance continue today as we discuss the best ways to build confidence.

Welcome back to the Daily Connoisseur. Our lessons in elegance continue today as we uncover the secrets to building confidence. I am saving the best tip for last. It’s something you are not going to want to miss because, I promise you, this tip will change your life. Let's get into the 5 tips now...

Dress by Lilysilk Daily15 for 15% off

🗝Film Yourself This may sound crazy. Especially if you have no aspirations to be an actress or a YouTube star, but you can learn a lot by filming yourself. You need to know what you look like and how you come across. You will notice how you sit, stand, speak, etc. I have learned so much about myself from doing this. Sit yourself in front of your phone camera and say something. Push past the inevitable embarrassment you will feel. You can delete the video after you study it. Tell yourself a story or read a poem or a passage from a book. Then rewatch it. You will see yourself as others see you. Don’t just do it once, but do it a few times. You will become more comfortable in front of the camera and work on your elocution and how you carry yourself naturally.

Pajamas by MommeSilk  Daily15 for 15% off  Mighty Patch by Hero Cosmetics

🗝Polish your appearance When you look good, you feel good. Everyone knows that. I have a plethora of videos on how to look and dress elegantly. I even have a video with tips on how to look good from behind! I would say the biggest factor for confidence has got to be your skin. If you’ve ever had a big pimple or breakout anywhere on your face, you know the agony of talking to someone up close. In my personal experience, all I could think about was my acne. Those of you who have read Lessons from Madame Chic know the story about the pimple on my nose that caused extreme embarrassment… especially with my highly discerning art history professor. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn’t funny at the time! Having clear skin is a major component of everyday confidence. I suffered from acne like most teenagers too. I even struggled with it in my 20s and 30s. Thank you to Hero Cosmetics and their Mighty Patch (Allure's Best in Beauty acne spot treatment) for sponsoring this video code JENNIFER gives 15% off.

🗝Brush up on your etiquette skills  Knowing what to do in all situations naturally gives you confidence. Brush up on your etiquette skills in all areas, from proper dining etiquette, to business etiquette, to greeting etiquette. Own an etiquette book like Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic or my friend Myka Meyer's etiquette books and brush up on your skills. When you know what fork to use, where to put your napkin and how to indicate how you are finished with your meal, you can free up your energy to enjoying yourself. Good manners exude confidence. They indicate that you were raised well and have a good education, whether that’s true or not.

Blouse by Rungolee DailyC for free silk face mask Earrings by SKYE Jennifer20 for 20% off

🗝Correct your posture Body language tells so much. That’s one of the reasons why you are going to film yourself. Look at your body language and how you carry yourself. If you are slumped over in your chair or hunching your shoulders out of anxiety, you are not acting confidently. Your body language should be elegant, at ease, and open. Make it a habit to check in regularly with your posture throughout the day. Awareness is the first step.

🗝Act as if it were impossible to fail I told you I saved the best tip for last and that’s true. This one tip will completely transform your life. I learned about it in a vintage book by Dorthea Brande called Wake Up and Live. The key takeaway from that book is this: ACT AS IF IT WERE IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL. The author suggests that we set ourselves up for failure constantly. We leave room for it. We leave room for rejection or for people to choose someone else. I want you to pretend like you already know the end and the results are in your favor. Pretend you already got the job when you walk into the interview. Pretend that they did accept your offer, pretend that you already won the affection of the crowd. This is not to suggest you live in denial perpetually. But your assurance in each given situation can only aide you in building confidence.

I hope you enjoy today's video.
