Ever since I reviewed the e-cloth, clean with just water, microfiber cloths back in December, I have had many of you ask me to try out the mop. On today's Natural Home with Jennifer, I clean the dirtiest area of our home... the area where our 2-year-old enjoys his meals :)

On today's episode of Natural Home with Jennifer, I'm cleaning our master bathroom using natural cleaning products. Our master bathroom is quite large so it takes a long time to clean, but I find it very relaxing and satisfying to tackle this room once a week and clean it from top to bottom.



I usually wipe the countertops a few times a week, but the deep clean comes once a week.

In today's special Saturday edition of Natural Home with Jennifer, I'm cleaning with water. Yes, water! It doesn't get more natural than that.



I'm using e-cloths today to explore this new trend of using high-quality microfiber cloths and water to clean the home. I had always heard of this method of cleaning but have generally been skeptical. How on earth can cleaning with only water actually disinfect surfaces?





Here is the explanation from e-cloth's website:
The tendency of water to grab and hold small particles is among the most powerful forces in nature. It's the force that forms every raindrop and snowflake – and it’s the all-natural “active ingredient” in every E-Cloth product. Each of our precision-engineered microfiber textiles is designed to unlock this amazing power of water to perform specific cleaning tasks.



How does e-cloth work?
Run the General Purpose Cloth under the tap and then wring it out. This “charges” the cloth by filling the microscopic voids between and within the cloth’s fibers with water. When you draw the cloth across a dirty surface, those water molecules attract and stick to particles of dirt, grease, grime, even bacteria and mold, pulling the particles into the voids and trapping them there. Rinsing the cloth with warm or hot water, or running it through a machine wash cycle, releases the trapped particles and refreshes the cloth.



In today's video, I try out the general purpose cloth, as well as the glass and polishing cloth. I was pretty amazed with how well the glass and polishing cloth provided a streak-free clean for my mirrors and windows. The general purpose cloth made our bathroom countertops shine. I'm really impressed with this line.

If you cook at home a lot like we do, your oven can get dirty, really fast. After a few seasons of baking and roasting, our oven was covered with grease and stains.



When we bought our house last year we inherited all of the appliances, which were heavily used and around 14 years old. Our oven is partially broken- the convection feature does not work and neither does the self-cleaning feature. Because of this, I clean my oven by hand. Of course, I like to use the most natural ingredients to clean it since our food is cooked in there.



Today, I'm sharing my simple baking soda paste recipe with you. It uses baking soda, water, and Castile soap. Castile soap is a very natural, all-purpose soap that you can find anywhere. One of the most popular Castile soap brands is Dr. Bronner's (which I have used in the past... it's great!). Today, I'm using the lavender Castile soap from Grove Collaborative. I received it as a free gift this summer for being a VIP member with Grove. Their Castile soap is great too and has a refreshing lavender scent.

Here is my Baking Soda paste recipe:



If you clean your oven with baking soda, please remember a few things: always read your oven manual before cleaning your oven. Never put the cleaning solution on the heating rods, leave those alone. I tend to just scrub the areas that have collected grease and stains and avoid the heating rods entirely. Never use too much water to wipe out the baking soda.



I use the Grove Collaborative lavender liquid Castile soap, which cleans well and has a wonderful scent.



I'm also linking the Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile soap in lavender, from Amazon, which is another great brand that I have used in the past.

Before applying the paste and letting it sit, I vacuum out all of the larger crumbs with our wet dry vac.



Once the paste is applied, it's best to let it sit for as long as you can (overnight is ideal). In this video, I only let it sit for two hours because I had limited time, but as you can see with the results, it worked wonders to get the greasy stains out.

In today's Natural Home with Jennifer, we are veering from beauty and getting back to cleaning. I'm reviewing Grove Collaborative's innovative cleaning concentrates in today's video.



I'm a really big fan of these cleaning concentrates. Grove sell a 3-pack that includes a multi-surface cleaner, a tub and tile cleaner, and a glass cleaner. They also sell each individual cleaner as a 2-pack.



The tub and tile cleaner works well for regular tub cleaning. If you have a bigger job to do with your tub, like a heavy ring around it, you would probably need something stronger.

The multi-surface cleaner is excellent. It cleans the countertops well and provides that delightfully subtle orange + rosemary essential oil scent.



The glass cleaner was the first one I tried a few months ago. I actually ordered this one first before ordering the 3-pack. At first when you spray and wipe your mirrors and windows, the surface is cloudy, then turns into a really nice streak-free shine. Not only does it clean well, but the orange + rosemary essential oils make this spray smell like a wonderful spa.

I'm really excited to launch a new series today on The Daily Connoisseur, Natural Home with Jennifer. I have made the decision to completely switch to all-natural cleaning products for our home. I've always been interested in natural cleaning products. As you will recall, I share my homemade lavender vinegar cleaner recipe in At Home with Madame Chic, and have also done a blogpost on it. Earlier this year, I read the major bombshell study that came out in many different publications on the detrimental effects of using traditional cleaning products on women's health. The study was published in many places including Newsweek, Fortune and Reuters.

The study, which was originally published in American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, discovered that, "Women cleaning at home or working as occupational cleaners had accelerated decline in lung function, suggesting that exposures related to cleaning activities may constitute a risk to long-term respiratory health."

The headlines on Newsweek and Fortune put it more bluntly:

"IMPACT OF CLEANING PRODUCTS ON WOMEN'S LUNGS AS DAMAGING AS 20-A-DAY CIGARETTE HABIT: STUDY"

"Using Household Cleaning Products Can be as Bad as Smoking a Pack A Day"

Yikes!

This study really convicted me, because I come in contact with cleaning products every single day of my life. Cleaning is a major part of my life, and I'm guessing yours too. Occasionally using my homemade vinegar cleaner wasn't going to cut it. I decided I needed to switch to all-natural products in all of the other areas of cleaning as well, not only for my sake, but my family's sake, and the environment's sake.

I never realized what a negative impact this had on me, since before kids I was always small. Now after my first baby Im resorting to all these crazy, desperate measures to drop the weight, not to mention I'm not that nice to myself, but that's how I was raised! That's what I was taught was normal. From your books I am learning to dress well for the current shape I'm in, stop trying to squeeze into my old tight clothes, and to eat more mindfully.
