Sandra Sallin writes, "This is off the subject but it's in response to a YouTube video you made about how your book became published. You will not remember me but about 10 years ago I asked you if at 70 years old I was too old to start a blog. Your response was for me to "Do it." no if ands or buts just do it. Well, 10 years later I've not only been blogging and it's been very successful but also I'm on Instagram. I was discovered there and featured twice in the London Times Style Section because of my age and my videos ( IGTVs) I will also be featured in an Associated Press feature about my success as a blogger and instagramer because of my age and my followers which now reach 25,300!!! Not bad for this 80 year old. I simply had to tell you that your encouragement worked. Thank you for your encouragement.

I've even made some of your recipes for my husband and he has enjoyed them. I do think he likes foods that kids like. So thank you again."

Dear Sandra, I am thrilled for you and continue to cheer you on. Congratulations all of your success! Here is a link to Sandra's blog for all who are interested.

The Chic Assignment Check-in March 2019 | Jennifer L. Scott

10:50 AM 16 Comments

Welcome to The Chic Assignment check-in for March, 2019. This is becoming my favorite series on the channel. I am enjoying doing these monthly assignments with you and you are giving me so many wonderful recommendations. I'm thrilled and I hope you are too.

In today's video, I'm sharing my own updates for the month of March, including a piano performance of the Chopin Nocturne at the end of the video.

Before we begin, however, I just wanted to thank all of you who have taken my new eCourse, How to be Efficient at Home. I am enjoying connecting with all of you on the Course. There is so much camaraderie and support in the comment section, it's truly been amazing! Here is a testimonial from Mya, who recently finished the course:

Hello Jennifer. I enrolled in your new E-course yesterday and watched it all the way through. I had intended to watch it over a 3 day period, but I couldn't stop watching it. I even took notes. I plan to watch this over and over for inspiration. I consider myself a life long learner and enjoy taking classes, but right now I am very busy with motherhood, homemaking, work, etc. So this was perfect! And the best part is I can watch it over and over. This is my favorite of your E courses. Thank you so much for taking your time to create this course!
Best,
Mya

Thank you, Mya! And thank you to everyone who has taken the course. I really do appreciate your support of my channel.

Let's move on to my findings on The Chic Assignment for March:

๐ŸŽต I hope you have enjoyed listening to the Chopin piece. I certainly have. I play it for you today and use the music from The Chopin Gold piano book, which has easy compositions of the pieces. I really recommend this for novice or uncertain piano players like myself :)

๐Ÿงบ The next assignment was to spruce up your laundry routine. So many of you said that laundry was your favorite task. Many others said that they found the laundry to be overwhelming. Other shared their top laundry tips. This month I have involved my kids more in the folding of the laundry. I've also strived to do my laundry to completion on any given day. I also have hung up this sign in our laundry room. I don't know why... but this sign brings me serious joy when I walk in there!

If you are looking for YouTube inspiration, check out my friend, Nikki's, laundry video, which is so beautiful to watch.

๐Ÿ–ผ Our Claude Monet assignment was so fun! So many of you told me you loved "The Lunch". My favorite is the Woman with a Parasol...

I give my interpretation of the painting in today's video.

๐Ÿ‘— Finally, we have been getting our ten-item wardrobes ready for the change in season. If you haven't already seen my ten-item wardrobe video where I transition my wardrobe from winter to spring, you can check it out here.

My items from Garnet Hill arrived, the cork wedges (which are so comfortable... I love them!) and my two lightweight sweaters.

Also, for more ten-item wardrobe inspiration, check out my friend Robin's video on her spring ten-item wardrobe for 2019. She gives a wonderful example of how to make the ten-item wardrobe work.

Finally, the three books that I am reading this month are:
168 hours by Laura Vanderkam, A Most Novel Revenge by Ashley Weaver, and Mother Culture by Karen Andreola

Comment of the Week
Katerina writes, I just cannot adequately tell you how much you’ve changed my life for the better. I am nearly 60 yrs young, and have always hated clothes shopping until 2 years ago when I was introduced to the concept of a capsule wardrobe and your 10-item wardrobe idea. Even my husband has gotten onboard in helping me because he knows what I’m looking for...not racks and racks of aimlessly endless colors and designs, but a navy/white stripped tee-shirt. The time I save!! I haven’t worn a dress in a very long time, but yesterday I wore one of the LandsEnd dresses that you’ve recommended with a navy cropped pullover sweater and heels. I got at least 6 compliments(!) and several friends saying “oh my gosh—you have legs!”. Thank you Jennifer.

Thank you for your wonderful testimonial, Katerina! I really enjoyed hearing how the books and channel have inspired you and changed your life for the better.

Thank you for joining us today. I would love to hear your Chic Assignment updates. Please leave them in the comment section below.

How to be Efficient at Home | My New eCourse | Jennifer L. Scott

7:37 AM 5 Comments

I am so pleased to debut my newest eCourse, How to be Efficient at Home, for you today!

I have been working on this course for the past several months and have put so much into it. You will find over two hours of brand new videos, plus text, quizzes and a lively comment section full of fellow Daily Connoisseurs who are all interested in living beautifully at home.

Experience a total mind-shift in how you look at your domestic tasks, uncover valuable time, and enjoy your life at home through this enjoyable course.

You will work on identifying your distractions and making them work for you, establishing early wakeup times and a morning routine, as well as cleaning routines and efficient meal planning. I share my cleaning routines, planning habits, and efficiency secrets, plus so much more in this course.

Also offered in this course is a free batch cooking eBook by my friend Kim, from Free to Family. Thank you, Kim for your generosity!

As with the other courses, I am offering this one at only $5. This price will last for one month and then I will raise it to $10. (I do this to cover the hosting costs that Teachable charge me to host my courses, which is quite substantial.) Also, I want to offer it at $5 so that it is accessible to everyone and it is not a burden on anyone's wallet.

Please watch today's video announcement to learn more.

I truly hope you enjoy this newest course. I look forward to connecting with you over there! Thank you for your support. Your support of my work means so much to me. More than you know.

How To Be Efficient | My Best Tips | Jennifer L. Scott

5:23 AM 20 Comments

In my recent Self-Publishing Success Story, I mention that I am a very efficient person. If you are going to write books and raise a family, you need to be! :) This is an area that I have a lot of experience in and in today's video, I share my best efficiency tips with you.

To get an expanded discussion on each of the tips, please watch today's video. I have summarized them for you here.

Tip #1- Wake up well before your family. I usually wake up at 5:30am, a few hours before my children wake up. This quiet morning time is perfect for getting tasks done. I have the energy and motivation and it sets me up for the day. I feel prepared.

Tip #2- Cut out television. No seriously. A recent New York Times article stated that the average American adult watches 5 hours and 4 minutes of television a day. While you probably don't watch that much TV, imagine the hours you could recoup if you cut out television watching entirely.

Tip #3- Cut down on social media. For many of us, using Facebook can be a guilty pleasure. But track how much time you spend on your social media sites. This digital hobby could be taking up valuable hours and minutes in your day.

Tip #4- Make goals for yourself. If you are entering into a new season, make goals for yourself and take action to accomplish them. For example, during our summer break, I made the goal of organizing the pantry, establishing a filing system and clearing/ de-cluttering the homeschool room. I'm nearly finished with all three of those goals and it feels good!

Tip #5- Embrace schedules and routines. Utilizing routines doesn't mean you have a boring life, it just means your work is regularly getting done, which frees up time to enjoy other things. I have a cleaning schedule, a cooking schedule, and a working schedule among other regular weekly routines.

Tip #6- Use a planner. I put important appointments along with directions and alerts in my phone, but for everything else, I like to use a written planner. This helps me visualize my week and it honestly keeps me more prepared than when I only used the calendar feature on my phone. I use the The Happy Planner . Here is a link to all Happy Planner products on Amazon

Tip #7- Meal plan. In addition to planning our weekly meals, I really enjoy freezer cooking. Freezer cooking has helped us so much! It's wonderful knowing that a healthy, homemade meal is always available on the days where I am too busy to cook, or simply don't feel like cooking. It helps me be efficient without compromising our family mealtimes together.

These tips really only scratch the surface. If one of these topics interests you and you'd like to know more about it, please let me know in the comment section and I would be happy to expand the discussion in future video.

News
There will be four videos this week on The Daily Connoisseur! Tomorrow, I'm sharing my favorite scents for the Mrs. Meyer's line, Thursday's video is an interview with Nikki Moreno of Inspired by Nikki, and Friday's Natural Home with Jennifer is sharing a laundry detergent review. I hope you'll join me!

Comment of the Week
On last week's Homeschooling Update, Rachel writes, "I’m so glad you all had a great year! I am currently homeschooling my 3 older children (rising 1rst, 4th, and 6th grades) with a delightfully active 3 year old in tow. This is our 5th year, and we all enjoy it. I’m thrilled that I get the opportunity to spend so much time with my children while they are young. Our days are (usually) joyful and satisfying, and my children are thriving socially, academically, creatively, physically, spiritually, really all the ways I can think of. I love your books and your blog! I think of your work sometimes when I’m tempted to be sloppy, lazy, grumpy, and living in my pajamas. Getting dressed everyday makes a huge difference in my attitude and productivity! Thanks for the inspiration you give me to keep classy. Much love!"

Hi Rachel, your comment was very encouraging! I loved to read about your positive experience with homeschooling. I'm thrilled that it works so well for your family. Fantastic!

Thank you for watching today's video. I would love to hear from you. Do you struggle with efficiency? Do you have any efficiency tips to share with us? Have you noticed an area in your life that you could adjust in order to be more efficient? Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

I'll see you tomorrow for a special bonus, Natural Home with Jennifer, video.
