'Le No Makeup Look' Favorite Brands and Shades

My last post on Makeup- Comme les Français received a great response- merci! It seems that a lot of women (French or not) love 'le no makeup look’ and from the few male comments I received- men seem to prefer it on us too!

Below I am sharing with you the basic products in my makeup bag that give me the best no makeup look. Please keep in mind I am a brunette with medium tan skin tone. (Although I think a lot of these shades are universally flattering).

Foundation:
Bare Minerals Matte in medium beige

Bronzer: Bare Minerals in warmth

Blush: NARS in Orgasm / Benetint / Lorac in Plum or Bare Minerals in Laughter

Eyebrows: Mac eye shadow in Orb

Eyeliner: Chanel in Ambre

Lip Color:
Bobbi Brown cream lipstick in Heather Mauve or Christian Dior Ultra Gloss Reflect in beige or Guerlain Terra Cotta Baume au Coeur in Coeur Caramel

Highlight: Fresh Satin Lustre in Chantilly Lace

Mascara: Lancome Defencilis in black

I would love to know… what are your favorite brands and shades for le no makeup look?

Love, love, love this look (eh oui!) - and I must admit that Nars "orgasm" is one of my faves. (I have a few of the others as well.)

This certainly is a look that I think men on both sides of l'Atlantique can appreciate, and that a woman always feels good in. It shows her off to her advantage without making her look like a painted lady. That entertainment should be saved for when you actually DO want to look like a painted lady. And then we're talking Pigalle in the playroom to keep things spicy, n'est-ce pas?

I used to work for QVC and I was amazed at the volumn of Bare Minerals that we sold. It was unreal. A very good product!

Nars "Orgasm" is a favorite of mine also, but since I am fair I use it sparingly. I love Jane Iredale products, esp. PurePressed Base (SPF 20) in Warm Silk and eyeshadow in Eggplant.

I also have Clinique, Bare Minerals, and MAC (spice lipliner) in my repertoire for the au naturel look.

I once read that Ingrid Bergman would spend over an hour doing her makeup to get that natural look. Don't believe everything you read though!

I love Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (if skin-care can count). I also adore Benetint, Hypnose Mascara from Lancome and Mac eyeliner. I also love Lancome, Chanel and Christian Dior lipsticks. There is a Revlon illuminator that I also use a lot. I don't know if I would oount as a natural make up look come to think of it! Thanks for that peep into your make-up bag Jennifer! xx

Love that dior gloss! I like alima mineral foundation. Concealer on my eyelids to even out the color. YSL Faux Cils mascara, chanel blush in rose tweed and bobbi brown lipstick in brownie pink.

Thansk for showing us your stash!

Of all the products I use for the natural look, my favorite is Kevin Aucoin's Precision Brow Pencil in Brunette. It applies smoothly and easily and creates a perfect brow.

I also like subtle lip glosses. Two of my favorites are Bobbie Brown in Tangerine and Chanel Glossimer in Sirop.

I use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer for my foundation (sometimes over MAC Strobe Cream), and I like NARS The Multiple for really natural cheek color (I use Riviera in The Multiple, but I also have Orgasm blush for when I want a little more oomph).

Simple, n'est pas?

Big Little Wolf- Oui! And Thank you for your email :) NARS Orgasm seems to be a cult favorite... it truly is universally flattering. Yes, I like to do the no makeup look for everyday. I love to glam it up for evenings or for days when something 'special' is occurring...

Michael- I can imagine! Bare Minerals is so popular. I have been using their products for years now. I keep wanting to stray (out of boredom or trying to find packaging that is more glamorous) but I always return. Their mineral makeup just really agrees with my skin.

Rebecca- I haven't heard of Jane Iredale products- I will have to check them out! That's what I love about this blog- I learn so much from your comments... Whatever Ingrid Bergman was doing was working for her... I would love to know her secrets!

Josephine- Oooh Clarins beauty flash balm sounds so intriguing. I adore Clarins products... whenever I travel internationally I usually pick up something of theirs from Duty Free... I will have to look into this one. You're so welcome. I love sharing little details about my life and learning details about yours... it's so much fun xo

Bonjour Madame- The Bobbi Brown lipstick in brownie pink sounds like the perfect shade. I love pinks with a hint of brown- it's so natural looking. And I adore Bobbi Brown's lipstick. The texture is just fabulous. I have yet to try Chanel blush (love their eyeshadow, eyeliner, pressed powder etc.) I want to try the shade rose tweed- I've seen it. Hopefully it wasn't a limited edition!

Cashmere- eyebrows are so important! I always fill mine in- usually use a powder (right now I'm using Mac Eyeshadow in Orb) but I will have to look into Kevin's line. Eyebrows frame the face and it's so true what they say, shape them professionally for an instant face lift! Thanks for your product recommendations! xo

It's terrible. The more natural we want to look the more work it takes to look like it took less work.

But then again, aren't we divine?

Love your product choices.

Back again. I just tried to put you on my favorites list and it wouldn't "take". It is definitely not out of the question with my limited computer skills that I've done something wrong, but I did it wrong about 10 times.

Is there something I'm not doing? I just typed in your url and nothing happened.

I'll try again. I am a twit in this department.

Hi Tish... hmmm. I am not sure. Whenever I add a blog I am following I go to the dashboard and click on ADD and paste the url in. Or you can go to 'manage blogs I follow' on your profile page. hope it works! Thanks for your lovely comment xo

The two staple brands in my make-up collection are Benefit and Bare Minerals. I use mostly Bare Minerals for daytime "le no makeup look" and I save most of my Benefit stuff for nighttime and special occasions. But, I can't live without the Benefit Lemon Aid and the Benefit Brow Zing on a daily basis. Also that Diorshow mascara in black...that stuff is magic.

What? No Carmindy stuff here..
Here I was all set to run off to CVS/CSV?
I was surprised to see that the French are showing sooooo many American brands at the moment..they seem to be in love with MAC and Ralph and Bobbie and Laura Mercier..
Go figure

Paris Breakfasts- Oh! I was referring to Carmindy's book entitled "The Five Minute Face". She gives really great tips for natural makeup application. I have never tried her makeup at CVS but have wanted to. The problem I find with drugstore brands is you can't sample the colors on your skin so you are essentially hoping that they will be the right shade for you. If you try them, please let me know! xo

Coastal Chicster- I love Bare Minerals too- I honestly can't live without it. There is a Benefit store near my home in Santa Monica, I will have to try those products you recommended!

Thanks for sharing! I've only recently discovered your blog and I'm really enjoying it! I tend to favour the no makeup look too, although I sometimes like to vamp the eyes up for a special occasion or night out. Anyway, looking forward to reading more posts soon!
