The Chic Assignment | February 2022

7:00 AM 7 Comments

Welcome to the first Chic Assignment of 2022! The Chic Assignment is a monthly challenge where we seek out the arts and improve the quality of our overall lives. Be sure to invite a friend!

The Chic Assignment is brought to us by The Chic Society. The Chic Society: Become a member of The Daily Connoisseur to get exclusive monthly live streams, access to my weekly members-only Vodcast, penpal program, and more. Only $1.99 a month (upper tiers are also available).

Chic Assignment No. 1 Discover the music of Valerie Coleman. Flutist and composer Valerie Coleman is Performance Today's Classical Woman of the Year and one of the top 35 Women composers in classical music, according to The Washington Post. If you want to smile this month, listen to Imani Winds performing Valerie Coleman's "Umoja."

We will learn more about Valerie Coleman in the mid-month check-in, but for now, you can visit her website to learn more about this talented composer.

Chic Assignment No. 2  Enjoy the art of Vincent Van Gogh

We knew the day was coming when we would study the iconic Vincent Van Gogh. It's hard to believe that Vincent felt like a failure in his artistic life and how he is so famous his work has almost become a given... a cliche. Learning about Van Gogh was one of the most interesting portions of my art history class in Paris and I'm excited to delve back into his sad but interesting life with you this month. You can learn more about Van Gogh and see his art for free here

Chic Assignment No. 3 Journal your gratitude this month. Before you start groaning... just hear me out. Write ten things you're grateful for each day this month. Don't overthink it. It doesn't have to be the top ten things. There is no pressure here. You don't have to feel guilty if you forget to write something big down. It can be that you're grateful for something as big as your children or something as small as the rose by your sink. It can change every day. Just write the first ten things that come to your mind. If you forget a day, don't beat yourself up over it. Try to do it each day. I've been doing this since the beginning of the year and I'm noticing some very curious and positive effects.

Chic Assignment No. 4 Go outside and notice the birds. Whether you have a garden, a balcony, a front porch step, a nearby park, or an open field near your home, step outside this month and notice the birds that are native to your area. We tend to take wild birds for granted, tuning out their call and not noticing their habits. But they are a part of everyday life and noticing them can bring us back into the present moment. This was the inspiration behind my poem, The OWL. I noticed the Owl in my garden at Christmas time and it inspired me to write poetry.

If you feel inspired by any of these assignments, I would love to hear from you. Record your observations in the comments and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

I hope you enjoy this near year of Chic Assignments! The Chic Assignment series is brought to us by The Chic Society, the private membership group on YouTube.  Joining The Chic Society gives you access to my exclusive members-only vodcast, which is published every Friday. I also do one livestream a month or do a Zoom call where we can all visit together and we now have a penpal program! Membership is only $1.99 a month.

10 Essential Grooming Habits for a Proper Glow Up

6:43 AM 0 Comments

I'm sharing 10 Essential Grooming Habits for a Proper Glow Up in today's video.

A Glow Up is a physical, mental, and emotional transformation for the better. Today we are focusing on the beauty aspect of a glow up. I'm sharing ten grooming tips that will help us glow with beauty.

A glow up is more than a makeover. It is an overall improved way of being. The glow up process can happy to anybody at any time. It is an intentional transformation. Let's talk about Glow Up with regard to grooming habits.

Tip 1 Double-cleanse
After doing much research, I have learned that double-cleansing is an effective way to remove makeup and cleanse the skin. Here is an article from Vox on why you should wash your face twice. I like to use Paula's Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil followed by Paula's Choice RESIST Cream Cleanser  The oil cleanser takes off my makeup really well and the cream cleanser finishes the job off.

Tip 2 BHA or AHA
Whether you use an AHA or BHA, exfoliation is important for having clear, glowing skin. I use the Paula's Choice BHA 2%  on a cotton pad 3 - 4 times a week before moisturizing.

Tip 3 Vitamin C
Vitamin C has many benefits for the skin. I like its brightening properties. I use the Paula's Choice Vitamin C  mixed with my evening moisturizer.

Tip 4 Deodorant Native Sponsor
Thank you to Native's aluminum-free deodorants for sponsoring today's video. Code DailyC7 gives 33% off.

Tip 5 Cuticle oil
Cuticle oil helps your at-home manicure look more professional. Dry cuticles can ruin the look on even the most beautiful nails. I use Londontown Cuticle Oil  JenniferS for 25% off, but you can use whatever oil you prefer on your nails. You can do this any time... even when you're wearing nail polish.

Tip 6 Heels
Combat dry, cracked heels with a foot file and vaseline... So easy!

Luxury Body Butter from A'DEL Natural Cosmetics

Tip 7 Body moisturizer
Dry skin is not compatible with a glow up. Remember all over body moisturizing to avoid ashy, dry skin. My favorite moisturizers are listed above in the "featured in the video" section.

Tip 8 Moisturized lips
Chronic dry lips might be an indication of dehydration. Be sure to drink lots of water, exfoliate your lips, and use a good lip moisturizer. Paula's Choice hyaluronic lip balm is a great one.

Tip 9 Breath
Fresh breath is something that everyone wants. I found this dissolving gum that lasts for so long called, Mouth Off. It's the best I've found so far.

Tip 10 Fragrance Wearing a light amount of fragrance might help you to feel pretty every day. I love Pinrose Perfume JSCOTT for free shipping: Secret Genius, Merry Maker, and Mystical Misfit. I would love to know... what is your favorite signature scent?

10 Days of Dinners | Intermittent Fasting

6:19 AM 5 Comments

I often like to share "what I eat in a day" videos on YouTube... mainly because I love watching what other people eat in a day. Today, I'm doing a variation on that idea and sharing 10 dinners I recently enjoyed (plus a bonus meal).

When I say "dinner" I mean the biggest meal of the day. Sometimes that is lunch for me. I do the 16:8 method of intermittent fasting. I have breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and my last meal by 5:00 p.m. and then do not have anything to eat after that.

Of course you can enjoy today's video whether you do intermittent fasting or not. Hopefully it gives you some inspiration on what to serve your own family for dinner.

Disclaimer: This video is intended for entertainment purposes only and is not giving nutritional advice. If you are interested in intermittent fasting, please consult your doctor.

I hope you enjoy today's video

Comment of the Week

Jerri G. writes, "Hi, Jennifer. Thanks for the wardrobe videos. I've been working on this for about three years. After making a few mistakes, I am getting closer to what works for me and my climate, (south Texas). I have become much more selective about what items make it into my wardrobe and I am also willing to wait if I can't find the right piece. This is quite a turn around for me and I find it liberating."

Hi Jerri, I'm so excited for you to start the ten-item wardrobe journey! It's a very liberating experience!

Thank you for watching today's video. I would love to know what your favorite dinners have been lately. Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

Outfits of the Week | Winter in California | Ten-Item Capsule Wardrobe

6:20 AM 0 Comments

I'm sharing outfits of the week from my winter ten-item capsule wardrobe. This winter has been very mild in California and I'm bringing out some spring dresses to layer. I hope you enjoy today's video

I do the ten-item capsule wardrobe, as chronicled in my Madame Chic books.

,

I was under the weather today and forgot to take my mirror selfie. So here is an image of the outfit from the video. I love my Thursday boots!

I'm calling this my Matrix look. It was a fun and cozy outfit for a very rainy day.

I like adding playfulness and whimsy into my outfits.

Lilysilk silk trousers Daily15 for 15% off
SKYE Enora Crystal Pearl Earrings Jennifer20 for 20% off

These new velvet smoking slippers from Jon Josef say Bee Happy. They are so fun!

I brought back this long-sleeve dress and created this prairie look... perfect for a mild winter day. This dress has become rather large on me so I don't see myself carrying it into spring. It is serving its purpose right now as a transitional winter dress.

Thanks for watching today's video! I hope you enjoyed it. I would love to know about your ten-item wardrobe. How is it going this year? Your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the Daily Connoisseur.
