Bare Minerals Tutorial

Bare Minerals was my first foray into makeup and who knew all these years later I would still be using (and loving) it. It’s not the only makeup I use but I do my Bare Minerals beauty routine at least 3 times a week. It’s just the go-to for my le no makeup look look.

There are so many ways to use Bare Minerals and apply the product. This week’s video tutorial shows you my routine. Thank you to YanaNYC and so many others that requested this video! If you are unable to see the above embedded video, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Here are the products I use in the video:

Bare Minerals Matte Foundation in Medium Beige

I like the ‘matte’ versions of the foundation better as I need all the help I can get in the shine control department. It also contains spf 15. The trick is to only use a little bit (actually this goes for all Bare Minerals products). A little goes a long way. Just swirl, tap and buff (technique is shown in the video). There are so many shades to choose from… you will have no trouble finding one that matches your unique skin tone. I would suggest going to a Bare Minerals or Sephora store and having a professional match you with your perfect shade.

Warmth
This is used like bronzer to highlight the bone structure of the face and give you a natural tanned look- like you’ve just gotten back from vacation. The key is to apply only to the points on your face that would get the most sun (this technique is highlighted in the video).

Mineral Veil
This is the finishing powder that sets your makeup and even more importantly blends out any harsh lines you have created with the Warmth.

Bare Minerals Blush
I really like their blushes. I’ve tried Laughter, Joyous Jennifer and Beauty and have liked them all. In this video I use the shade Beauty.

Clear Radiance
This is such a great product! It goes on over your applied makeup and softens and luminizes your look. It gives your skin the appearance of being viewed through a soft focus lens… very flattering. The radiance collection comes in different colors but I find Clear Radiance the easiest to work with.

Brushes
The brushes I use in the video are all by Bare Minerals but are over five years old. I take care of my brushes by washing them once a week and they last a really long time. As you can see in this video I only use three different brushes: the flawless face brush (powder brush), the angled face brush and the concealer brush. But really you could get away with only using two brushes (the concealer brush isn’t necessary if you have a concealer and brush you already use). It is important to use the actual Bare Minerals brushes as they are designed for the product. When you swirl, tap and buff the mineral product is more evenly distributed in the skin. It is also important to note that the kabuki brush is a great brush too although I didn’t use it in the video. The kabuki brush is great for applying the Mineral Veil.

I would love to know… what is your experience with mineral makeup?

And one final note... the music in the video is composed by me. I call the piece Arabella's Symphony.

Thanks for the tutorial! I have to say you don't really seem to need a lot of coverage, you look flawless just with the concealear. I like mineral make up and have currently used Swedish brand Tikei, however I find that it tends to emphasize the fine lines around my eyes, and I'm not so happy about that. So for now I'm back to liquid foundation.

Thank you, Jennifer, for this great tutorial! You always use the best music in the background.

Oh, wait! You COMPOSED the music! Brava!!!!

What a fun video! The music really makes it bright + cheery. I use Bare Minerals foundation. I'm olive skinned + have a warm complexion so I haven't tried the Warmth, but your video makes me want to try the Clear Radiance now.
BTW just ordered your book on Amazon + it is en route to my home as we speak! Nice!
Take care- Dee J.

Lovely tutorial! Unfortunately, mineral make up does not agree with my dry skin. I've always used either tinted moisturizer or sheer foundation, coupled with cream blushes for a natural/no-makeup look.

I have acne scarred skin and still break out at 41. I have not been comfortable with the sheer coverage of Bare Minerals makeup, but I do use it over a natural oil free foundation made by Lorac. The products I use are the Warmth, Tinted Mineral Veil, and the Well Rested. I absolutely love them! The Tinted Mineral Veil is especially nice to use as a finishing powder for those of us unfortunate souls who break out from conventional powders!
I would now like to give the Clear Radiance a try, thanks to your suggestion!

I had heard about bare minerals but never tried it until my wedding 5 years ago. I love it! It really agrees with my fair skin that is prone to oil/acne. Also, no more jaw lines from foundation that never exactly matched! My favorite product is the concealor. It covers up everything so you can then move on with a very natural look. I like the soft focus brush for the warmth as it doesn't make my pale skin look artifically tan. Can't wait to try the Clear Radiance product you recommmend. Thanks so much!

I have used Bare Minerals for years too, however, the foundation didn't work well with my skin--left it looking too crepey around the eyes (even in my 30s). So I use Jane Iredale Mineral Tinted Moisturizer instead but still use many Bare Minerals color products. ~~Bliss

Arabella's Symphony is beautiful! You are very talented. What instruments do you play???

Thank you everyone for your comments- I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Yes! Clear Radiance is a great product. I really love it... it adds an ethereal glow to the skin without looking too 'glowy'. Definitely worth a try.

For those of you unfamiliar with Bare Minerals I would definitely try it on in the store with a pro and step into natural light to know if it is going to work for you. Also this is a great way to get your exact shades as there are so many shades to pick from.

With regards to the music in the video thank you for all of your kind words about it! Priscilla to answer your question I play the saxophone and piano in real life but Arabella's Symphony (the piece I composed in the video) I composed on my computer in Garage Band.

I am a one woman show here on The Daily Connoisseur. I write my own blog, books, shoot and edit my own videos and compose my own music! My work is never perfect but I always try to create from a place of love and give it my best shot :)

Thank you for all of your wonderful support. You keep me going!

Hi,
Have you ever tried to use your bare minerals with synthetic brushes? If so do you notice a difference in the application? I hear mixed reviews about Bare Minerals brushes working best with the loose powder and others saying that any synthetic kabuki or dense brush will suffice. Do you think the brushes in the starter kit are worth it? How do you keep them soft?
Thanks,
Erica

Hi Erica- I've never tried Bare MInerals with synthetic brushes. They tell you at Bare Minerals that the makeup won't work as well when applied with a synthetic brush. (who knows if this is true!) I find that the brushes that came in the starter kit were great to start me out with. I wash them once a week with a brush shampoo to keep them clean and soft. They last forever that way! Best of luck...

Thank you for a quick and simple tutorial. I think I prefer the way you apply the warmth. I have used high end synthetic brushes and saw no difference in application. I've been told since I started using mineral makeup that I look younger and rested. I hope you have a tutorial on using the eye makeup. I'll look for it.

Really enjoyed your blog! You look absolutely flawless!! I just wrote a piece on BareMinerals too! I am new to this brand but I love it already. It feels as if I am wearing no makeup at all but it corrects my imperfections in a natural way!
