What's For Dinner? (One Week of Meals)

Hello, Daily Connoisseurs. I am back from my summer break! It feels wonderful to be back. I always miss the blog when I leave. We have had such a nice summer. We have thoroughly enjoyed our "staycation" at home with the baby. He is so snuggly and cuddly and delightful, I am enjoying every single moment with him.

My oldest daughter is back to school and we are back into our routine again. The baby is very happy to go along for the ride.

While I was away from the blog, I shot this video, showing you one week of dinners in our house. This is a typical week for us, full of many family favorites.

Here was the week's menu:

Sunday: Turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccolette

Monday: Pasta marinara, spinach avocado salad and bread rolls

Tuesday: Turkey and spinach tacos on corn tortillas with salsa and guacamole

Wednesday: Cottage Pie with steamed corn and tomato salad

Thursday: Rotisserie chicken with sautéed squash and spinach

Friday: Furikake salmon with brown rice and broccolette

Saturday: Chicken nuggets with mashed sweet yam and sweet corn

Be sure to check out this week's video to see all of the meals. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel (and be sure to subscribe!) at www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Hello Jennifer, It would be a year ago that I watched your Ted lecture on the 10 Item Wardrobe. I was fascinated and loved the idea, so I bought and read your first book, and have been working on incorporating so many elements that you present in my daily life since then! What a joy you are! I love your honesty and transparency in your weekly messages and feel each time like I am catching up with a dear friend! Thank you Jennifer for being a voice of common sense and elegance. I am looking forward to reading your other books and hope that your message of everyday beauty continues to spread!

Dear Jen, Thank you for your kind comment. I enjoy hearing from the people who find the ten-item wardrobe via the TEDx talk. Welcome to The Daily Connoisseur community!

It's so good to have you back - I have really missed your videos and almost felt a little lost without your weekly inspiration. I hope you, your little baby boy and whole family are doing wonderful. The dinners look really marvelous, one can see that you have put in a lot of effort and that they are well-balanced. I am very impressed with your portion size! Wish you a lovely week!

Welcome Back ! Great ideas for dinner - one of my favorite go to meals is haddock(or talipia) cooked in foil with tomatoes and white beans. Easy, healthy, and fast. I just saw you are back to blogging as I break for lunch from cleaning out my closet in time for back to school. Not quite at the 10 items yet, but being ruthless. Thought of you and your take on dressing while on a recent river cruise...my husband and I were amazed at the way some people thought casual dress (shorts, tee shirts, etc.) were perfectly fine for dinner in the elegant dining room. We dressed and enjoyed the entire experience. Just changed my email signature line to "You can never be overdressed or overeducated". Oscar Wilde
Looking forward to more videos and your wonderful inspiration !

Hi Jennifer, It was a nice surprise to see a new video today! I find your videos to be a weekly treat to inspire my life as a mom and homemaker. They are sort of like a moment to chat with a coworker at the water fountain. I enjoyed your dinner ideas and can't wait to try the turkey meatloaf. My family enjoys a vegetarian chili that I usually make once a week. It calls for diced peppers, zucchini, and onions instead of meat. It's a great way to add extra veggies into dinner.

I'm three weeks postpartum and just starting to feel like cooking again. This video couldn't be timed better! Thanks for reminding me of some simple, tasty homemade dinners. Planning this week's menus feels much less daunting now!

Thank you Jennifer for another inspiring video. I am definitely going to try the turkey meatloaf and the salmon recipe. Looking forward to seeing your next ten item wardrobe video too!

Lovely video! So much inspiration! I do menus for the weekend every Thursday night. Love to try new recepies and the make the table nice. In the week it is dinner one or two evenings. Sometimes it is just yogurt and sandwich. If the kids and Us ate well at work and school. Jane in sweden

I liked the video! My request is how to reprimand others children in a chic way. I teach 9th graders and feel I am constantly trying creative ways to tell them to be kind, or stop making noises that sound like bodily functions. I know it seems silly but with 25 kids that are becoming adults I would like to do it in a way that shows them that kindness, respect, and proper behavior are more attractive than the silliness.

Thanks for sharing! Your dinners with so many vegetables are really inspiring! Also, I'd love to know how often you grocery shop and if you have a good rhythm! I know people tend to grocery shop more often in France, and I'm wondering if you picked that up as well.

So good to have you back! I never cease to be amazed at how organized and "together" you are. Your dinners look wonderful and I'm impressed by the variety of things your girls apparently eat. Your menus inspire me to try some new dishes. Now I'm off to read that new article and be inspired to edit my wardrobe again! As usual, thanks for the inspiration.

What a great video just as school is starting! I can't wait to try the recipes. I've made the slow cooker roast chicken several times to rave reviews. As I was re-reading "At Home with Madame Chic" this summer I thought of a great idea for another Madame Chic book. How about "In the Kitchen with Madame Chic"? I'll bet many readers would love to hear more about how Madame Chic planned, prepared and executed delicious meals on a daily basis, complete with recipes. I would also love to hear more about how you've adapted her routines to your own life, with more favorite recipes, of course! Just a thought. Looking forward to the next ten item wardrobe video. Enjoy that adorable baby!

I'm so glad you're back Jennifer! I loved this video. Family dinner time is my favorite time of each day as it's so important to slow down, breathe, and have a moment together while we nourish ourselves. Those truffles also looked divine! - Emily @ Dinner Party Atelier

Jennifer, so great to have you back. I always look forward to Monday evening which is when I watch your blog. Loved the weekly meal plan and video. Everything not only looked delicious, but healthy and nutritious. As Mr. Rosenbloom suggests, why not a new book about the types of meals Madame Chic prepared and an approximation of recipes for those meals. Great idea! Having said that, I enjoy all of your videos because all of them are informational, yet entertaining, and cover a range of topics anyone seeking to live a refined and happy life, becoming the best version of yourself you envision can learn a great deal from your blog videos and your three (thus far) lovely
books.

Brava!

So great to have you back, even if I am a few days late watching the video :) I loved getting to see your week of dinners. Family dinner time is so important to me, even if it is just my husband and I. Tacos are one of our weekly staples, and then in the cooler months, pasta becomes a weekly staple as well.

So happy to have your blog back! It's very replenishing to take a break from routine and makes returning to the everyday tasks exciting again.

Hello Jennifer, i have two requests for the upcoming season.

1. can you do a video on fall accessories, please? there seems to be so much in terms of frills and velvet. how can one update their capsule wardrobe with a few current accessories?

2. can you also do a video on closet organization? i am referring to things like hangers, sachets, folding and placement of clothes

thank you

Love, love, love your week of meals video, Jennifer, and the way you eat, along with the perfect portions, is so similar to our way of eating. Thank you for taking the time to do this as cooler days are ahead and cooking is a pleasure when autumn returns. I'm beginning to move to a more plant-based diet (still eating fish) and I wanted to try your cottage pie and found a vegan shepherd's pie here that uses lentils and mixed vegetables, so I'm going to give that a go soon. So, happy to "see" you again and it was fun hearing master connoisseur cooing in the background. http://minimalistbaker.com/1-hour-vegan-shepherds-pie/

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome back !! I missed your weekly videos.
One question, do you blow dry and then straighten your hair before you curl it? I think I've the same hair type as yours but finding it hard to get the same look. Please share a hair tutorial.
Thanks.

With love,
Ashu

it's great to have you back, glad you got a lot out of your break.
I guess when I'm too tired to do anything else, I cook salmon steaks in foil with a mix of soy sauce, mustard and honey, or if I'm truly knackered I just bung on sweet chilli sauce! With new pots and a veg it's a quick meal to prep.
But I am a huge believer in not putting effort into cooking for just one meal. I usually get three-four day's meals out of one stint in the kitchen and bung the surplus in the freezer. And I boil a big pan of potatoes so that I have go-to cooked potatoes in the fridge which can be served in sooo many different ways.
The other default meal is to cook up an onion and garlic, add stock and yesterday's dinner leftovers (no matter what the meal was), sometimes a tin of tomatoes, and blend it down to an nice batch of soup that spans 1-3 lunches. So easy, so tasty.
I apply a similar leftovers approach in summer to salad lunches.
My goal in the kitchen and in life is to leverage effort whenever possible!

Wow I just wanted to add I would LOVE (pre-order and impatiently want for) a Madame Chic in the kitchen book that had more simple recipes like this, a meal rhythm (breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekends?) and maybe tips on incorporating seasonal veggies? Loved this post! Thank you Jennifer!
