The Chic Assignment | May 2020

Welcome to The Chic Assignment for May. If you are new to The Daily Connoisseur, The Chic Assignment is a monthly assignment where we expand our knowledge in culture, beauty, and the arts.

This month we have some exciting choices, so let's jump right in:

Chic Assignment no. 1 Capricho Árabe by Francisco Tárrega (1852–1909) I love classical guitar but know little about the genre's most famous composers. This month we will study Spanish classical composer, Francisco Tárrega. I have a wonderful performance for you by Isabel Martinez.

Chic Assignent no. 2 The Poetry of Pablo Neruda We are studying Nobel Prize winning poet, Pablo Neruda this month. You can check out some of his most popular poems here.

My favorite volume of his poetry is the very romantic, The Captain's Verses

Neruda's early poetry is romantic and electrifying and worthy of the Nobel Prize. Please note that when I choose artists for The Chic Assignment, I am not endorsing their life choices of political views. We will discuss this more in the check-in. For now, let's study the art.

Chic Assignment no. 3 Beautify your bedroom If your bedroom has any undesirable aspects to it, such as piles of clutter, or decor that you don't particularly enjoy, take some time this month to beautify your space. Sometimes just rearranging the furniture, clearing the surfaces and adding fresh flowers can create an appealing change.

Chic Assignment no. 4 Practice good posture while dining We are revisiting the subject of posture this month as we can definitely let ourselves go, especially during quarantine. This month, be aware of your posture as you sit at the dining table. We are going to try to avoid hunching over our phones or slumping over our food. This will help us to enjoy it more and be more present while dining.

I hope you enjoy The Chic Assignment for this month. Thank you to everyone who is taking my new eCourse, Carry Yourself with Poise. We have a wonderful community of women over there who are enjoying the sessions immensely.

Jill writes, "Jennifer this is your best course yet!!! Keep them coming. I will be a loyal supporter of the the beautiful work you do."

Thank you, Jill!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on The Chic Assignment this month. I will likely do a livestream for the check-in later in the month. Make sure you're subscribed to my YouTube channel and click the bell to receive notifications on the livestream.

Looking forward to this May assignment!!! I've been thinking about some big changes for my bedroom - now is the time! Thanks for the inspiration!!! I just needed a little push to get started. I hope you share with your readers if you change your bedroom this month. I've been taking your e-class and loving it.

Hello Jennifer,

Synchronicity abounds, as I find I have already completed three of your assignments~ I recently made a donation to my public classical music radio station, and I chose a CD set featuring classical guitar as my thank you gift. Now I have 5 CD's of classical guitar music, which I adore.
My 12 year old daughter is in the middle of a unit on South America for school, and she had to learn a poem by Pablo Neruda; so his work has been on our minds!
About bedrooms, this is the one room in my house that has seen the most change since sheltering in place. I have placed a "new" table in it (it's not new but moved from another room where it was hidden) and I have hung a "new" painting over my bed. All I can say is, "Great minds think alike!"

Warm best wishes,
Alexandra

Hi Jennifer,

I'm over the moon with this month Chic Assigment..I'm from Spain ...so it's a real honor that you have choose a Spanish guitar composer, and a poet who's original works were in Spanish..I do love his poems My favourite is
"Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines"...his personal life is another kettle of fish..anyway
And if any of the ladies in your Chic cercle are interested there are a couple of other twon composers, Joaquín Rodrígo and Andrés Segovia that are brilliant too..
It would be really nice if there is a live Chic assigment mid month checking ..
Warm regards from Barcelona and take care!!!!

Yes! A live check in would be wonderful. Ever since I started watching Jennifer's videos I've gotten back into reading poetry. I'm now 40, and the last time I had read poetry were my college days. She has really connected me to taking a moment to appreciate my favorite things again.

Hi Jennifer,
I am familiar with Spanish guitar music but not literature. I have ordered the book of poetry and also a book which came out here ( in the UK ) quite recently- A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende which features the poet as a character. Have you seen this book in the US?
Best wishes
