What would Jeanne Do? - My French Alter Ego Part Deux

Life is about choices and when it comes to my French Alter Ego, Jeanne (pronounced Zzzhahn), she usually helps me pick the chic choice. Below is an example of what Jennifer might do (Jenn for short) compared to what Jeanne might do:

What Jenn might do:

Buy three of the same ankle pants in different colors just because they are on sale, even though she isn’t quite sure about the fit.

What Jeanne might do:

Take her time and realize that the ankle pants on sale actually aren’t very flattering. Decides to save her money to purchase a higher quality article of clothing that isn’t on sale in the future.

What Jenn might do:

Eat an entire box of prepared Kraft Macaroni and Cheese while surfing the internet.

What Jeanne might do:

Prepare plain pasta and grate fresh gruyère cheese on top and serve with a simple salad and a glass of wine. Eaten alone while listening to music.

What Jenn might do:

Pick a fight with her husband because he didn’t load the dishwasher in the most efficient way possible.

What Jeanne might do:

Pause when agitated- appreciate her husband for who he is and realize that it’s not Jeanne’s way or the highway. Rather than pick a fight, she decides to take a bubble bath instead.

What Jenn might do:

Eat waaay too much at a cocktail party and silently curse her aching tummy on the way home.

What Jeanne might do:

Delight in a few tasty hors d’oeuvres until she is no longer hungry. Focuses more on conversation instead.

This list could go on forever so I have decided to write down my observations regarding What Would Jeanne Do? And share them with you as they come.

I would love to know- how has your alter ego inspired you?

Audrey Tautou is pictured above in a scene from the 2006 film Hors de Prix. In this scene she looks as though she is contemplating what her alter ego might do...

And as a side note... my alter ego does not smoke (even though I keep featuring pictures of women with cigarettes!). Both Jennifer and Jeanne think it is very unchic to smoke...

I'm all for Jeanne's responses, but Jenn's responses sound the most familiar! (especially about eating too much at a cocktail party!)

Bonjour!
I adore this alter ego via French Jeanne...I did eat a sensible breakfast when out this morning for brunch...fresh fruit salad and a piece of mutligrain toast...really wanted eggs, bacon, and hash browns!
I looked at the hash browns and alas I ate 3 of my husbands....mmm.

Dominique is having tuna salad for lunch today, even though there is leftover pizza in the freezer. I also thought of Dominique when I was knitting on the sofa last night and immediately sat up straighter. Thanks for the inspiration!

Well...I'm on the fence about this. It's good to have standards, but also good to allow leeway. And I must say I love a good smoke, although obviously I try not to make it a habit! ;-)

I love your new way of thinking! I need to give this a try and I believe my inner Chantal needs to be realeased! It was an all-American day for me today including pizza for supper. C'est demain un nouveau jour!

This is too much fun- thank you for all of your input and I'm glad that people seem to like Jeanne's perspective! Glad to know you all don't think I am too crazy... :)

I love hearing about your alter egos and how they inspire you (positively or otherwise...) Thanks for all of your comments!

Is there something wrong with eating an entire box of macaroni and cheese? Especially with a hot dog on the side! :-)

This topic is so much fun. I need to remind myself more what my alter ego would do or not do. What she would not do is what I do much too often -- speak a littler louder than I would like, brag about stupid things, have a big mouth, etc. She would speak more softly, not talk about herself all the time and maintain her mystique.

Love, love, love this post. Just like you did, I see these conflicting behaviors all the time.

Oh!!! It's on sale; I don't really need it; I'm not even that crazy about it; I look terrible in yellow, but I think I'll buy it anyway and then go chez Anne-Francoise and eat too many amuse-gueules...

You'd think after all these years my French alter ego would step in and save me from time to time.

So right on the mark.

okay - i named my alter ego Bella (because i've always liked that name and it means "beautiful" in italian).

what would Lisa do? (that's me - Lisa.)
sit on the couch and over indulge in a package of not-so-great store-bought cookies and skim milk for dessert

what would Bella do?
patiently take the time to make just a cup of delicious decaf coffee with a just a dash of light cream and savor it slowly with one or two biscotti...at the dining room table. :)
