I posted a bonus video on the YouTube channel yesterday, Exploring Loulé.
It's a quick, fun travel video showing you this historic Portuguese city.
And now... What's in my toiletry bag?
In today's video I show you what's inside my toiletry bag for our 5 week European trip. I try to pack lightly because I really dislike lugging extraneous things around with me when I travel. When you're already traveling with three kids, it's important to pack light! I hope you enjoy today's video.
For all of the makeup shown in this video, check out my bareMinerals blogpost.
Other toiletries shown in the video:
Philosophy Purity face wash in travel size, Simple makeup removing cleansing wipes in sensitive (this is what I used before I ran out and bought the Portuguese brand), Neutrogena spf 55 for face (2 pack), La Vanila The Healthy Deodorant in vanilla lavender, bareMinerals Smart Combination lightweight emulsion, Cortizone 10 cream (for mosquito bites).

The course is self-paced and includes a lively comment section with other ten-item wardrobe enthusiasts. Enjoy!
Here is a wonderful testimonial for the ten-item wardrobe eCourse from Elizabeth P, who writes, "Thank you very much for such a wonderful course! It's even more in depth than your excellent Ted talk, and I think your presentation was perfect! I must confess...I have a skirt just like the one on the cover of Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic (currently in my out-of-season clothes), and I am searching with a discerning eye for some fabric to match the top! That's my ideal style!!!"
Thank you so much, Eizabeth! I'm so happy you enjoyed the course...

Thank you Jennifer for the updates. Would love to see a debt-free living series. Recently I read an article by finance blogger Pauline Paquin (born and raised in Paris) about the French approach to debt. One thing I was suprised to learn was that typically the only debt they carry is their mortgage. I think people being able to do that here in the U.S. alone would be a step in the right direction. I also think that the self discipline and commitment required for the 10 item wardrobe can, and is very useful when applied to personal finance and debt. Also, thank you for being an advocate for and encouraging saving for quality items that one can afford.
Thank you, Alejandra! I would be very interested to hear the French perspective on debt. I am looking forward to the debt-free series too.
I hope you enjoy both of the videos today! Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday for more videos from our trip to Portugal.
Today I would love to know... do you like to pack light for traveling? Do you need help in this area? What do you like to bring in your toiletry bag? Let me know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

I am an incredibly light packer. I don't deliberately have a capsule or ten item wardrobe (it has kind of happened accidentally, when I cleared out my wardrobe!), but when I travel I am meticulous about my clothing choices so that I can take only what I know I will definitely wear. In our house we laugh, because I travel way lighter than my husband. We recently took an overnight trip to Sydney and my carry-on bag had a ton of room. His was stuffed full of "just in case...what if I need..." items. I looked at the weather, packed accordingly and washed my hair the day before so I wouldn't have to take all that stuff as well.
I really love your toiletries bag! I like the compartments in it.
What a beautiful view! Thank you for the wonderful updates as you journey through Portugal. I'm enjoying it.
Packing for me is a trial because we often take weekend trips to visit & care for our widowed mothers who live 2 & 3 hours away in the country. We are often packing to do work on their homes and acreage, Sunday Mass, my MIL symphonia choral performances, hiking/biking and traveling in the car. I've got the toiletries/make-up part down, thank God!
And, yes, a chic budget would be an interesting topic to explore! This makes me press into my thinking about my own passions and the passions of my family ... pressing into the very simple pleasures and elongating them.
Jennifer,
You referred to the villa you were staying in. How did you find your accommodations in Portugal? Did you use Airbnb.com or some similar online resource? Did you work with an estate or rental agent? Also, it looks like you rented a car, correct? We try to avoid car rentals in Europe and travel by bus or train. A car is probably much easier with children! Do you think one could see Portugal's small towns and villages traveling by bus or train? Or is a car necessary? Portugal is next on our travel wish list. I'm enjoying these "peeks" into Portugal with you! Thanks!

Interesting article for you, Jennifer
Hello Jennifer,
My comment doesn't relate to this week's video but rather to a discussion that's been going on over the past few weeks. I found a section in a newsletter from the personal-growth teacher Caroline Myss. I had to think of you when I read this piece in which she compares "Alice in Wonderland" to our contemporary society.
"...this list of absurd beliefs we cling to personally and as a society is very, very long indeed... The other day, I overheard a woman at the gym say to her friend, “I’ve got to hurry. If I don’t get this report in to my colleagues, the business deal we’ve been working on will be toast.”
“That’s absurd,” I thought. “If that report were so important – if you were so important to the business deal – what on earth are you doing at the gym? You could come to the gym after your business deal.” Silly, silly girl– and then I thought, she is going to rush away from the gym in a state of “It’s all about ME-ness”. An “Alice moment” if ever there was one – and then I realized that ME-ness is the defining feature of the contemporary Alice mind. In some ways, we all think that WE are THE most important person EVER. Could there be a more absurd thought?"

Hello Jennifer! Hope you are having a lovely travel day with your family. I do enjoy your videos. I discovered a book I thought you might enjoy, particularly if you are planning to visit London. The title is: London Secrets: Style, Design, Glamour, Gardens, and the author is Janelle McCulloch. Lovely photos, and describes some out of the way places that are beautiful.
Best wishes to you for a wonderful day!
