The Chic Assignment, April 2020

Welcome to The Chic Assignment for April, 2020.

Chic Assignment no. 1 Aaron Copland - Appalachian Spring (Orchestral suite). Check out this performance by the NY Philharmonic.

Red Poppy, 1927

Chic Assignment no. 2 Artist of the month: Georgia O'Keeffe You can see a list of her most famous paintings here. You can buy Georgia O'Keeffe-inspired canvas art here.

Chic Assignment no 3 Enjoy making something from scratch you previously relied upon from the grocery or drugstore. Ideas are: bread, yogurt, ice cream, pasta, pizza dough, soap, beauty products, growing your own vegetables or fruit. Most of you are already doing this...

Chic Assignment no. 4 Maintain your elegance at home. This could mean you dress well everyday. This could mean you work on taking the high road (if the people around you are driving you crazy, etc.), this could mean creating an elegant room in your home.

I hope you enjoy this month's assignments. I look forward to hearing your findings. We will touch on these subjects more throughout the month as well as in the mid-month check-in.

My dress is by Draper James and my earrings are by Rachelyn Jewelry.

I'll see you next time for a beautiful homemaking vlog where we will make bread and yogurt from scratch...

I've started baking my own bread and once the milk gets delivered next week, making yogurt from scratch. I've been saving citrus peels and will make candy with the kids. As awful as this situation is, it's given me that little "shove" to reinforce at home about being resourceful and self sufficient. Why eat processed foods? Why not try homemade candies? Learn how to make them, enjoy the creativity, and enjoy being patient. Slow down. And realize that not everything has to be purchased.

I have always loved Appalachian Spring. Aaron Copeland was such a gifted composer and this is my favorite of his pieces. Georgia O'Keeffe use of color was incredible. Thank you for putting the April assignment together.

Dear Jennifer,

Thank you for the assignment! I am thankful I've already completed a few of the tasks! I had the pleasure of visiting a Georgia O'Keefe exhibit in Palm Beach, Florida over the holidays. It was amazing to see not only some of her beautiful paintings, but photographs of her and even some of her clothing!
During this sheltering in place, I have been baking homemade bread consistently~ Finding flour and yeast has been challenging at times, but it feels worth the effort to have the delicious fresh bread, and it is also more economical than buying bread.
I agree with you about maintaining elegance at this time. I've been rearranging furniture and decor in my home to make it look better. Getting dressed nicely, coiffed, and made up each day have also been good for my spirits.

SO grateful for you,

Alexandra
