10 Essential Grooming Habits for a Proper Glow Up

6:43 AM 0 Comments

I'm sharing 10 Essential Grooming Habits for a Proper Glow Up in today's video.

A Glow Up is a physical, mental, and emotional transformation for the better. Today we are focusing on the beauty aspect of a glow up. I'm sharing ten grooming tips that will help us glow with beauty.

A glow up is more than a makeover. It is an overall improved way of being. The glow up process can happy to anybody at any time. It is an intentional transformation. Let's talk about Glow Up with regard to grooming habits.

Tip 1 Double-cleanse
After doing much research, I have learned that double-cleansing is an effective way to remove makeup and cleanse the skin. Here is an article from Vox on why you should wash your face twice. I like to use Paula's Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil followed by Paula's Choice RESIST Cream Cleanser  The oil cleanser takes off my makeup really well and the cream cleanser finishes the job off.

Tip 2 BHA or AHA
Whether you use an AHA or BHA, exfoliation is important for having clear, glowing skin. I use the Paula's Choice BHA 2%  on a cotton pad 3 - 4 times a week before moisturizing.

Tip 3 Vitamin C
Vitamin C has many benefits for the skin. I like its brightening properties. I use the Paula's Choice Vitamin C  mixed with my evening moisturizer.

Tip 4 Deodorant Native Sponsor
Thank you to Native's aluminum-free deodorants for sponsoring today's video. Code DailyC7 gives 33% off.

Tip 5 Cuticle oil
Cuticle oil helps your at-home manicure look more professional. Dry cuticles can ruin the look on even the most beautiful nails. I use Londontown Cuticle Oil  JenniferS for 25% off, but you can use whatever oil you prefer on your nails. You can do this any time... even when you're wearing nail polish.

Tip 6 Heels
Combat dry, cracked heels with a foot file and vaseline... So easy!

Luxury Body Butter from A'DEL Natural Cosmetics

Tip 7 Body moisturizer
Dry skin is not compatible with a glow up. Remember all over body moisturizing to avoid ashy, dry skin. My favorite moisturizers are listed above in the "featured in the video" section.

Tip 8 Moisturized lips
Chronic dry lips might be an indication of dehydration. Be sure to drink lots of water, exfoliate your lips, and use a good lip moisturizer. Paula's Choice hyaluronic lip balm is a great one.

Tip 9 Breath
Fresh breath is something that everyone wants. I found this dissolving gum that lasts for so long called, Mouth Off. It's the best I've found so far.

Tip 10 Fragrance Wearing a light amount of fragrance might help you to feel pretty every day. I love Pinrose Perfume JSCOTT for free shipping: Secret Genius, Merry Maker, and Mystical Misfit. I would love to know... what is your favorite signature scent?

A Glow Up After 40 | The Inner Work

6:04 AM 3 Comments

A Glow Up after 40... today we are discussing some of the inner work needed.

Welcome back to The Daily Connoisseur. In Part one on the Glow Up process, we focused on the outer work... how to look good. In today's video we are going to look at a few key aspects to having an inner glow up. This is in no way a comprehensive list. I am only sharing 5 points today.

A glow up is a mental, physical, and emotional transformation for the better. In part one we talked about some of the key points to a glow up regarding looking good. Today, let’s discuss the inner work involved in a glow up because it’s vastly more important.

This is not a comprehensive list... these are just 5 points on a very long list of inner work that must take place. I can do a part 2 if you'd like to hear more...

⚜️ What I'm Wearing

Dress by Lilysilk Daily15 for 15% off

SKYE earrings Jennifer20 for 20% off

Lipstick by Besame Dusty Rose

⚜️ Mentioned in the video Atomic Habits by James Clear Mother Culture by Karen Andreola Myka Meier Modern Etiquette Made Easy The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

1. Individuality  Who are you? Did you know that you are totally unique? As humans we are in some ways all the same: for example, we all have a nose. But we each have a unique nose that is not replicated on anyone else. We all have different fingerprints. We have different lines on our face. Our eyes are different colors. What makes us laugh is different. We are attracted to different things. We probably all like music, but the music we like is different. Who are you? What is your unique stamp on the world? Many women who reach their 40s find themselves having suppressed their individuality over the past few decades… whether it was to fit in at work, or with other moms, or with your family. How can you express your individuality? If you have lost your individuality, it might be time to look for it again.

 2. Confidence  I can confidently say that confidence comes with age. As a chronic people-pleaser and introvert, I struggled with confidence in my 20s, and even 30s. When you hit 40, you begin to realize that sometimes no matter what you do, someone isn’t going to like you. Or they will have a problem with you. You realize that you have nothing to do with that. In the past, you might have done backbends to please other people and really tried hard to make them like you. When you turn 40, you just accept: this is who I am. I am confident in that. People are not going to like me and that’s ok. I’m not catering to that percentage of people in my life. I’m going to unapologetically be who I am going to be. Here is another key to remember: all the mistakes, rejections, and failures in your life actually help you! They build on your confidence. How? You learn from them.

3. Passion This goes hand-in-hand with individuality. You might have squashed your passions over the past decade or more while looking after other people and getting established in life with your home and work. Now you’re probably still looking after other people, because that doesn’t ever change, but you have a little space to breathe. Or you just came out of a breakdown and realized you don’t do anything you’re passionate about anymore. You used to play the piano, or the guitar, or the harp. You used to sing in the choir. You used to paint. You loved painting. You used to read more. You used to write poetry. You used to dance. You used to laugh. Now it’s just working and paying bills, and cooking dinner, and folding laundry and the flame of your passions feels extinguished. Well, it’s time to get that back. In The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Jean Brodie declares on her 40th birthday that she is "entering her prime".

4. Compassion Having compassion and grace for people who think and do things differently from you is an integral part of having a glow up. Kindness and compassion perhaps go farther than anything you can do internally.

 5. Ambition Ambition is a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. This is not to be confused with having work ambition…. Getting to the top of your profession. If that’s what you want to do, that’s totally fine. I have aspirations for that myself. But ambition can be anything from, wanting to be the top lawyer in your firm, to living a slow and intentional debt-free life off grid. Do you see what I mean? It’s going to look different for everyone and that’s ok. What are your goals? Do you have ambitions? Your ambition could be to homeschool your kids and give it your absolute best. Your ambition might be to write a book in your spare time and get it published one day. Your ambition might be to read 7 novels next year. Or to start walking every day. What is your ambition? And how are you going to achieve it?

Can You Have a Glow Up After 40?

6:51 AM 4 Comments

Can you have a glow-up after the age of 40? Let's discuss this in today's video.

First, what is a glow up?

A glow up is an incredible transformation. The glow up process focuses on the improvement of physical appearance, individual style, overall attractiveness ... a mental, physical, and emotional transformation for the better.

Clearly there are many aspects to a glow up. Today we will focus on the surface-level aspects involving overall appearance: looking good and projecting that into the world.

⚜️5 Key Points to an Attractive Glow Up

Glowing Skin

Skin is a big deal as you age. The key is to take care of it and display healthy skin. For me, it's less about erasing signs of aging... those aren't going away and they add character. It's more about embracing your skin as it is and taking care of it optimally.

I use the Paula's Choice Skincare products and they come at my highest recommendation. Here is a list of what I use on a regular basis. I order these on their subscription. Please use whatever skincare line you love the most! The key is to take care of your skin. You can do that on any budget. It's about being intentional.

A Vibrant Smile

How did you get those laugh lines in the first place? From so many years of smiling! :) A vibrant smile is a key to your glow up: being happy in your own skin and radiating it through your unapologetic smile.

Thank you to NixWhite teeth whitening for bringing us this segment. JEN15 gives $15 off.

Intermittent Fasting

Lilysilk white blouse and black silk trousers Daily15 for 15% off SKYE necklace Jennifer20 for 20% off

The biggest part of my glow up transformation after 40 can be attributed to Intermittent Fasting. You can read my 18-month update here if you want to learn about my experience. I do the 16:8 method of intermittent fasting and was able to lose 30 lbs and improve my health in immeasurable ways. Disclaimer: Please consult your doctor before trying out intermittent fasting.

Flattering Makeup

We age, but sometimes our makeup routine doesn't. We don't want our makeup look to be stuck in a past decade so it's important to stay au courant with the modern trends by watching makeup tutorials or consulting a professional. Here are some of my favorite makeup brands:

Unapologetic Style

The older you get, the more you realize your time on earth is short. Every day should be spent expressing your true style. The ten-item capsule wardrobe can help you do that as you refine what you wear each day and become intentional about how you present yourself to the world. Check out my recent Core Items post and Extras post for fall inspiration.

Cynthia S. writes, "What a phenomenal interview! So inspirational. Jose is such a beautiful person and talented artist, so humble and well spoken. I have known since I was a child that I should pursue a career in art. I have since graduated college, married, and had children. I remember as a first time mother, making and creating and trying to balance motherhood. I decided then that I really had to prioritize motherhood. My tiny house at the time couldn't handle a messy niche. I have truly been in hot pursuit of my dreams again. I appreciate this interview and people who share their art story more than ever! Thank you, Jose and Jennifer."

Cynthia, I'm so glad you enjoyed my interview with Jose Trujillo! I am wishing you the best for your own artistic career.
