Bored with Your Winter Capsule Wardrobe? That's Actually a Good Thing

It's that time of year again.... the seasons are about to change. Many women feel bored and dissatisfied with their capsule wardrobes right now. I know I always get antsy at the end of the season and start to feel anxious about switching out my wardrobe for the next one. I'm going to share why boredom with your ten-item wardrobe is actually a good thing.

When our children tell us they are bored, what do we say? Most parents encourage their children to use their imaginations and figure out how to fill their time. It's in these moments of boredom where true growth happens and where character is formed. The same can be said for our ten-item capsule wardrobes.

Make sure you watch today's video to hear another analogy to capsule wardrobe boredom. What do you think? Do you agree that self-discipline with the ten-item wardrobe builds character? Let us know your experience.

I enjoyed this video very much, especially the comments about boredom. When my children were younger, every time they said: mummy, I'm bored, my reply was: good! find something to do. And they did. They are now highly creative teenagers and never complain about being bored.
I am about to put together my first ever capsule spring wardrobe, thanks to your encouragements. In fact, listening to your videos made me realize I was already operating on a reduced wardrobe, while my cupboard is full of things I never wear. So now I am getting a bit more intentional and putting together a 10-item wardrobe around a color palette that I like. And I will also declutter a lot of clothes in the coming weeks.

I've been following you for a lot of years and enjoying every minute. You said a word in your video that struck a cord. "Transition". From clutter to declutter, from large wardrobe to 10 item, from season to season, it's all a transition and a period of growth. In my mind I heard you have 10 items, some extras and that's it. Only today did I realize that's not it at all. Every season you're moving items in and out. It's not a stagnant wardrobe it's actually ever-changing. Wow. That makes me feel better Here in the South we can have 3 seasons in one week. It may be 40 degrees one day and 70 the next so I may have to play a little in "transition" between seasons with my "capsule." So right now I may have a light winter dress one day and a spring dress with a light colored cardigan the next. It's all good. Thank you. BTW I watched your earliest videos and loved noting the transitions in your life...like facials, eyebrow threading, pedicures, etc. Life is always a lovely transition. Thank you Jennifer.

The whole concept of changing out my wardrobe at the seasons is my favorite part of the 10 item wardrobe. It makes me feel like I have just gone on a shopping spree. I agree that boredom is a good thing. Limits actually make your more creative. I'm actually finding that I use accessories more (scarfs, etc.) now than I ever did with a larger wardrobe.
