Ten-Item Wardrobe Summer Updates, 2020

Welcome to my summer update video for the ten-item capsule wardrobe. This summer I am taking out three core items and replacing them with two... One of the items is over five years old.

At the change in season, it is important to assess your wardrobe and make any necessary changes. I am retiring the Draper James chambray shift dress for now and plan to bring it back in the fall as the fabric is heavier and won't work for the hot summer here in Southern California.

I am going to also take out the Morning Lavender jumpsuit as it is very past its prime, and the NeeSee's dresses blouse as it did not perform well.

Do you remember this dress from 5 years ago? It is from my ten-item wardrobe from 2015. I always loved this dress, but was unable to wear it during the pregnancies and nursing periods that followed its purchase.

I love the beautiful pattern that reminds me of a midnight summer garden. This dress from Boden is no longer available, but I am linking wonderful summer dress resources below.

And now for the second dress...

This fit and flare dress from Lands' End is from last year's summer ten-item wardrobe. It's light and airy and a pretty summer color and will work well this season too.

Here are some great summer dress resources:
🌿Midi dresses from Lulu's
🌿Dresses from Morning Lavender
🌿Dresses from Draper James
🌿Dresses from SKYE Jennifer20 for 20% off
🌿Lands' End Fit n Flare
🌿MerSea travel wrap
🌿My earrings SKYE Genevieve 18K gold pearl code Jennifer20 for 20% off

I am eyeing the SKYE Odelie white short for summer as well. (code Jennifer20 for 20% off) I am very impressed with the quality of SKYE's clothing and think this would be a good addition to my summer wardrobe.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Comment of the Week
Leslie M. writes, "I’m definitely still trying to figure out my style and paring down with each season. How often do you make buying mistakes these days? Since I’m starting out I have found I’ll try something on and love it only to find out it doesn’t work with my lifestyle. I’d love your insight on the trials and errors of figuring it out."

Hi Leslie, usually the mistakes I make are in buying pieces that are not high quality such as with the NeeSee's dresses blouse. The fabric seemed ok when I first purchased it, but it became clear after wearing and washing it, that it was not a good fit for me. Style-wise, I don't feel I make many mistakes now as I tend to enjoy wearing everything in my wardrobe.

Thank you for watching today's video. I would love to know how your summer ten-item wardrobe is coming along. Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

Jennifer, I remember you once talking about productivity and how the word characterized you, yes, it looks like it does well :)
Lately a post on Mary Cassatt's exhibition "Mary Cassatt. Une impressionniste américaine à Paris" at Musée Jacquemart-André apeared on the blog I follow and I thought something along those lines: wow, I know her already :) Thank you for that as well as I could come across my own comment in your post lately. As to the exhibition it is on till 23rd July. Best.

Loved the video and how you explained moving things in and out as you figure out what works and what doesn't. I love wearing summer dresses. They are so cool (weather-wise). You actually introduced me to Boden and I have such good luck with style, fit, and sales! I have several of the very same style in different fabrics. If you find something that works-stay with it, I say.
Question- Do you wear slips? They are pretty hot. I haven't seen any half slips, maybe in cotton? I've been wearing what my friend calls "Playground panties" and I feel secure in them but they don't exactly provide the same coverage as a slip.
Thank you for your beautiful videos and lifestyle.
