Preparing My Postpartum Ten-Item Wardrobe | Jennifer L. Scott

5:21 AM 3 Comments

In today's video I'm sharing the plans for my postpartum ten-item wardrobe. I'm going to have the baby very soon and wanted to be prepared with a nursing-friendly postpartum wardrobe for after the birth. This is the perfect time to go through my wardrobe as well as the seasons are changing.

I share what old pieces I am able to use for the upcoming season and share some new purchases too. Featured in the video are the following:

LL Bean floral knit dress

LL Bean Navy Dot Knit Dress (this one is currently on sale)

The two nursing tees are from zulily, who always have great maternity and nursing pieces that are affordable too.

Two-pack nursing nightgowns

Also discussed in the video is my black fold-over skirt, as well as the demi-camisoles I wear under my v-neck tops and dresses.

I am bringing back many older pieces as well that you will recognize. The burgundy Garnet Hill dress was from 2015/ 2016. I had retired it but thankfully did not get rid of it yet as I think it will work well for my postpartum wardrobe. I will continue to wear a few items from my maternity wardrobe such as the maternity jeans and black v-neck dress, which were both purchased from zulily.

On Monday's parenting chat video, Hoki writes, "Thank you for this. :) I particularly love the 'styling the sofa' one. My son will clean if we play "Surprise Guest Is Coming". We pick up toys, hurrying, because a surprise guest is coming. Then, I go out and ring the bell. When he answers, I come in and pretend to be an animal or a toy. He has to guess what i am. Then, he takes a turn. He REALLY cleans to play this game.
Also, my favorite, general, affirmation is "What a useful little engine you are!" My son loves to hold the door for me and unload the grocery cart onto the belt. I wish he liked to helped me with the baby, though."

Hoki, I love your game, Surprise Guest. It must make it so fun for your son to clean and also build good, happy memories too. Thank you for sharing your tip with us!

I would love to know your ten-item wardrobe plans for the upcoming season. Let me know in the comment section and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

Thank you for joining me today. I'll see you tomorrow for a new Natural Home with Jennifer.

Maternity Ten-Item Wardrobe Talk-Through SS 2018 | Jennifer L. Scott

4:33 AM 6 Comments

I hope you enjoyed Monday's Ten-Item Wardrobe video. As is traditional on my blog, I'll be talking through each piece in today's video.

Today's video is not just for pregnant ladies, or ladies who plan to become pregnant, however. I show you what I would have worn this season had I not been pregnant. I also share some practical fashion wardrobe tips, including wearing maternity shareware under my thin dresses as well as the demi-camisole I use for all of my low-cut tops and dresses.

The four returning dresses are from Seraphine.

The following dresses were found in zulily's maternity section. Zulily always has an excellent selection of heavily discounted maternity wear. They carry many of the major maternity brands at such a discounted rate. These are my pieces from zulily.

The following items were from Amazon. This black skirt is not actually a maternity skirt, I'm just using it as one. It has a fold over top band that works well in maternity and will work well after. I love the maternity tee shirts from Amazon. They have such a great fit! The jeans are from zulily.

I also mention my undergarment secrets in today's video.

I will often wear maternity shapewear under my dresses to smooth everything out. I wear this brand from Amazon. (Please note: the screenshot above is from the model, not me :) )

Another wardrobe secret: I wear a demi-camisole underneath my low-cut dresses. I love these from Amazon. They come in many different colors. This is an excellent staple for all wardrobes, not just maternity. Wear these demi-camisoles over your bra to cover up a low-cut blouse or dress.

I cannot find the exact canvas bins I use, because they were purchased years ago. This set of 6 canvas bins is Amazon's choice and has good reviews.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Maternity Ten-Item Wardrobe SS 2018 | Jennifer L. Scott

5:53 AM 9 Comments

I'm sharing my maternity ten-item wardrobe fashion show with you today. If you've ever been on the fence about the ten-item wardrobe, the maternity season of life is a wonderful time to try it out. You don't want to purchase a lot of clothes during this time because you'll only be wearing them for a few months. Having said that, purchasing maternity clothes is unavoidable. As your body changes, you must have clothes to accommodate your growing belly.

If you plan to have more than one child, you can purchase some maternity clothes that will aide you in your future pregnancies. Four of my core items are returning from my prior pregnancy, and the rest have been purchased with my budget in mind from zulily and Amazon, which both have wonderful maternity selections.

I will be doing my talk-through video on Thursday that discusses each piece in detail, including the undergarments and accessories I wear with them, but for today, let's just check out the pieces.

The four returning core items are all from Seraphine. These are all from my prior pregnancy with my son.

The new pieces purchased are from zulily's maternity section. They have a marvelous maternity selection year-round at heavily discounted prices.

The brand for this pretty orchid-colored dress is Mom & Co. from zulily.

Black maternity dress by GLAM from zulily.

This comfortable nautical-stripe dress is by Mom & Co. from zulily.

The royal purple maxi dress is by Mother Bee Maternity from zulily.

Floral maxi dress by Mother Bee Maternity from zulily.

The black fold-over skirt and my maternity tee shirts are from Amazon. I love both of these items. The skirt is not actually a maternity skirt, I am just using it as one and hopefully will be able to wear it after the birth as well.

The maternity jeans are from zulily.

As you can see, I have 11 core items in my maternity wardrobe this year (tee shirts, shoes, and cardigans are categorized as extras, not core items). This maternity wardrobe has served me very well so far. It can be dressed up or dressed down all all of the pieces are comfortable and adapt to my growing body. I look forward to discussing the details in a more in-depth way with you in Thursday's talk-through video.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Pregnancy Chat: Skincare, Drinks, Wardrobe, Rest, and Exercise

5:35 AM 5 Comments

In today's pregnancy chat, I discuss the skincare I'm using, the drinks I'm enjoying, my maternity wardrobe, and how to deal with fatigue and exercise when expecting.

Skincare
For skincare, I have been using Belli Beauty, which is a natural skincare line for pregnant women that is approved by both OBGYNs and dermatologists. The four skincare products I discuss in the video are Healthy Glow Facial Hydrator, Pre-Treatment Scrub, Anti-blemish Cleansing Facial Wash, Belli acne control spot treatment.

For those of you who are not pregnant, and are looking for natural skincare, try Pellu Beauty (formerly Nudu). Also, the natural SPF line I mentioned in the video is MyChelle.

Drinks
The primary drink during pregnancy should, of course, be water. And I am trying to drink more water than I normally do to stay hydrated. As for special drinks, I have been enjoying one small coffee every morning (I usually make it iced). If I want an additional coffee or tea during the day, I drink Teeccino vanilla nut herbal coffee. I love the taste of this rich drink. Teeccino does contain chicory, so please ask your doctor if it is safe for you to use during pregnancy.

Wardrobe
I will do a maternity ten-item wardrobe video in the future, but until then, I have been enjoying my returning maternity dresses from Seraphine, mixed with new maternity pieces from zulily. In this video, I'm wearing one of the Seraphine dresses.

Exercise
For exercise, I have been jumping on my rebounder, although I will have to give it up soon as I go further into my 2nd trimester. I am going to miss my rebounder! I also walk on a regular basis and count housework as exercise :)

On Monday's faux flowers video, Silver Melody writes, "Hi Jennifer, Your faux flowers are really lovely. Another option is a faceted cut glass or crystal vase...the facets blur the stems very nicely. You can also add small clear glass stones to keep the flowers in place and add more light reflection. My personal favourite is a beautiful ceramic vase that hides everything underneath and lets you support the flowers with whatever means to get the best arrangement, and to my eye, the most aesthetic appealing option for real or faux arrangements."

That's a great suggestion, Silver Melody. Thank you for your great tips!

I'll see you on Monday for a special Teatime with Jennifer: Royal Wedding Edition! In the meantime, I'd love to know your thoughts on the pregnancy topics discussed in today's video. Your comment could be chosen as comment of the week. See you Monday!

Ten-Item Wardrobe Look-Back Winter 2018 | Jennifer L. Scott

6:08 AM 3 Comments

It's time to go through my ten-item wardrobe from last season to decide what will stay and what will go. How did my budget wardrobe fare from zulily? This is an important step in the ten-item wardrobe process. At the end of every season, assess what worked for you and what didn't. Decide what will stay and what will go. Take notes if it helps. Store away your keepers and keep them until you use them again.

Because I am pregnant again, I will store away my keepers and might not use them until the fall of 2019. That's OK. I will be in maternity/ nursing clothes this upcoming fall and winter and will draw from my existing ten-item maternity wardrobe along with a few new purchases for this season of life. I will go over my maternity ten-item wardrobe in a future video. I hope you enjoy the recap in today's video.

Comment of the Week

In the comments on my Debt-free course, Amanda writes, "Jennifer, I've been doing the ten-item wardrobe for just over 3 years and I love it! Can't say enough good things about it! I moved from warm weather to cold weather and it still worked great. During the winter I basically switched my sandals for boots and tees for sweaters. I found the combo of 7 tops/ 3 bottoms to be the perfect formula for me personally. What I love about this is that everything I wear, I love! I'm so picky about what I approve to wear and I really found my best clothes cut, color and fabric. (A-line, v-neck, Cotton, bright color tops with dark bottoms) I can't tell you how lovely it has been. I feel more confident about each piece I wear and get more compliments. Every year my husband purchases a new bag for our anniversary and I use that everyday (sometimes I'll switch out the other 2 beautiful leather bags that I love) Because I'm not wondering "what am I going to wear?" I get ready faster, each piece of clothing is well cared for, washed, steamed etc. I also have been able to invest In a lovely watch and necklaces since I love V-neck tops so much. Please keep your ten-item videos coming, your Winter 2017 was my favorite so far!"

Hi Amanda, I'm so excited that you have experienced first-hand the beauty of the ten-item wardrobe. Thank you for your great testimonial!

I hope you enjoyed today's video. I would love to know how your ten-item wardrobe process is going. Have you assessed your items from last season? How did you do? Your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog. See you soon!
