7:30 AM 3 Comments

Welcome to a new episode of 3 Articles on Dress. This week we are looking at the best looks from Paris Fashion Week, how to wear boots and jeans like The Duchess of Cambridge, and the most glamorous characters from Agatha Christie's oeuvre.

Let's dive into the articles...

     20th Century Fox

The Most Glamorous Characters from Agatha Christie's Oeuvre

Death on the Nile comes out October 12th and Tatler has compiled the most glamorous characters from Agatha Christie's oeuvre. Please note: this article contains spoiler alerts, so do not read the text if you do not want spoilers.

Harper's Bazaar has collected the best looks from Paris Fashion Week. My favorite looks came from Dior, such as the beautiful and exotic look shown above. What were your favorite looks?

And finally, The Duchess of Cambridge wore skinny jeans and boots in the most royal way and Who What Wear analyzes the look.

I am still loving my Thursday Boot Co. Captain boots and enjoy wearing them with jeans in a similar fashion to the Duchess.

Comment of the Week

Niki S writes, "Greetings from Greece! I'm so grateful for your channel. Your videos have inspired me to start delighting in the mundane and the repetitive tasks of a stay at home mom Then I read your books and was deeply touched by your ideas. I'm starting to move more slowly and mindfully, to cultivate my poise. For the first time in years I am driving a car (I had been too scared to even try for more that 15 years!). I'm wearing nice clothes that fit me well, I listen to clasicam music, and I have even established the ritual of afternoon tea with my husband and 1 year old baby -in my grandmother's china no less! All this is to say that I feel very different, more empowered and confident. My life has been much more enjoyable. Keep up your great job!"

Niki, thank you for your kind and encouraging comment. I'm so happy that the books have inspired you. Please keep us updated!

I hope you enjoyed today's video. What are your thoughts on all of the topics discussed? Did you have a favorite from Paris fashion week? Let us know in the comments and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

One Hour of Cozy Fall Cleaning | Calming & Therapeutic Homemaking

5:07 AM 0 Comments

They say homemaking is the new wellness... and today I have created another motivational hour-long cleaning video to encourage you in your daily homemaking tasks.

Follow me for several days as I do daily and seasonal homemaking tasks around the home. The video shares the therapeutic sounds of cleaning along with a beautifully curated soundtrack. All of the music is copyright-free from Epidemic Sounds.

Homemaking can be a lonely endeavor and sometimes requires extra motivation, so I hope you find enjoyment through cleaning along with this video.

I finally found a tool to clean out that hard-to-get lint from the dryer. It's a small, universal vacuum attachment I found on Amazon.

Find all of cleaning products featured in the video, such as the dryer vacuum attachment, extra long gloves, and more on my Amazon Cleaning Store.

Ashley G writes, "I haven't been on the blog in ages so I am binging a little today. Is it weird to say that I've missed you? :) This video was BEAUTIFUL. This may be one of my favorite 10 items you've ever done. I've been following since 2013 so I feel like an old pro... even with my absence the last year! (I had a baby and then suddenly she was an entire year old!)

Thanks for all your inspiring words and calm presence. I've enjoyed your books and blogs for my entire adult life so it feels quite strange to jump back in and have no idea what you've been doing for the past few months. Happy Fall!"

Dear Ashely, Thank you so much! It's wonderful to know that you were able to find inspiration again on the blog. Congratulations on your new baby!

I hope you enjoyed today's video. Have a wonderful week and I'll see you on Thursday!

The Chic Assignment, October 2020

7:35 AM 0 Comments

Welcome to The Chic Assignment for October, 2020. I have some fun selections for you this month, so let's get started.

Chic Assignment no. 1 The Phantom of the Opera We are trying something a little different for this month's Chic Assignment and are going to listen to Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. I have provided a 1988 Tony Award performance from the great Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman that is so riveting and nostalgic. I know during this pandemic shut-down I have missed going to the theatre and I look forward to returning one day. This month we will listen to this piece and will discuss the story behind The Phantom of the Opera.  Have you seen The Phantom of the Opera? Let us know your experience down below.

Chic Assignment no. 2 Enjoy the art of Gustave Caillebotte
We are going to study French artist, Gustave Caillebotte this month. You can see his most famous paintings for free online. We will study him more in the mid-month check-in.

And check out the following two books:

The Luncheon, 1876

Rue De Paris, Temps De Pluie, 1877

The Floor Scrapers, 1875

Chic Assignment no. 3 Focus on your presentable undergarments and sleepwear.
This month we are going to go through our undergarment drawers again (yes!) and pull out our presentable sleepwear for fall (spring for our Southern Hemisphere friends). I will be doing another presentable sleepwear video for you this month to provide inspiration.

Chic Assignment no. 4 Enjoy cooking a new seasonal dish.
Honor the season by trying out a new seasonal recipe this month. I have enjoyed baking acorn squash and creamy mushroom chicken, a recipe I will share with you in an upcoming video.

Ten-Item Wardrobe Talk-Through Fall 2020

6:43 AM 1 Comments

Thank you for your amazing response to our Ten-Item Wardrobe video from Monday. Today, I'm giving you a talk-through of each core item and extra to learn more about the ten-item capsule wardrobe process.

Here are the core items:

Core Item #1: Kate Kasin plaid skirt This skirt was a budget buy and such a fun find. I like it because it is very lightweight and is working well with the (still) hot Southern California weather.

Extras: Mer-Sea cashmere wrap, Lilysilk camisole Daily12 for 12% off, Oliver Cabell mules JSCOTT10 for $10 off, Capsul custom block bracelet

Core Item #2: SKYE Dezi dress   Jennifer20 for 20% off This is such a dreamy dress. It would make a great holiday party dress too.

Extras: SKYE Theodora 18K gold earrings  Jennifer20 for 20% off
Ballet flats: London Sole (no longer available) ballet flats (linking similar)

Core Item #3: J. Jill wrap dress This dress is no longer available so I am linking similar ones from Draper James and and a budget option here. I truly love this neutral dress. In fact, I'm wearing it as I write this blogpost!

Extras: Mont Kiji Secret Garden scarf code connoisseur for 20% off, ballet flats (linking similar). The scarf was designed by Junhee from Mont Kiji. What a beautiful scarf. I love the rich shade of green.

Core Item #4
Plaid dress by Velvet by Graham & Spencer This dress is no longer available on the Velvet website, but I found the exact dress here on Amazon. The tights are by Hipstik JEN15 for 15% off

Core Item #5 Everlane dress I adore this dress. It's the perfect length and so comfortable...

Extras: Oliver Cabell Suede Mule  code JSCOTT10 for $10 off

Core Item #6: Draper James Chambray shift dress  This neutral dress is very easy and fun to style. I look forward to all of the different ways I can wear it this fall.

Core Items 7 & 8: Lilysilk midnight blue blouse (Daily12 for 12% off) and Mott & Bow jean code JLS10 for 10% off

My favorite thing about the Mott & Bow jeans is the crop. They work well with so many different shoes and are very flattering.

Core Items 9 & 10: Lilysilk romantic white blouse (Daily12 for 12% off) and Mott & Bow black jean  JLS10 for 10% off This is my pirate look! Swashbuckling chic! :)

A closer look at the extras:

Let's have a look at the sweaters, camisoles, and tee shirts...

The Mer-Sea cashmere wrap  and Lilysilk camisole (Daily12 for 12% off) The combination of silk and cashmere is so dreamy and pleasing to the touch.

The Mer-Sea Lisbon Traveler  My favorite part about this sweater is that it does not cling to the under-arm area. It's roomy and comfortable.

The Mer-Sea Cashmere Hampton Duster and Mott & Bow Tee shirt code JLS10 for 10% off

I always have a striped shirt in my wardrobe no matter the season and I enjoy this boxy striped tee from Mott & Bow. The Hampton Duster is very heavy and warm and will serve me well when the weather cools down.

Let's have a look at the shoes featured this season...

The Captain Boot by the Thursday Boot Company is such a classic, high-quality boot. I have them here in muted black and Old English. They are my favorite boots by far.

The Oliver Cabell driving shoe code JSCOTT10 $10 off You can't beat the look of a classic driving shoe. These pair so well with a slightly cropped jean.

The Oliver Cabell dream mule code JSCOTT10 for $10 off I love these mules and have been wearing them the most when out and about. They feel like slippers.

Let's take a look at the jewelry...

Capsul custom block bracelet JENNIFER15 for 15% off (available in brass, sterling silver, and 14K gold) I have the initials of my children's names on this custom bracelet and love how dainty and delicate it is.

SKYE Theodora 18K gold earrings  Jennifer20 for 20% off These beautiful earrings look so elegant and Art Deco. The green adds a special touch.

SKYE Oleana pearl earrings Jennifer20 for 20% off These cheerful earrings look like little Christmas wreaths. They are so festive.

Comment of the Week

Marisa writes, "One of the things I love most about the 10 item wardrobe is that I feel finished. I was walking through Nordstroms today to return shoes and I felt zero pull to buy anything new. My fall/winter wardrobe is purchased and I need nothing. Such a great feeling."

Marisa, this is so true and one of my favorite things about the ten-item wardrobe. Without boundaries, my wardrobe never felt "finished". I'm glad you are enjoying that aspect of the ten-item wardrobe too!

Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoyed today's video. I'll see you tomorrow for The Chic Assignment for October.
