Bikini Alternatives + Summer Ten-Item Capsule Wardrobe Updates

10:35 AM 7 Comments

Bikinis and one-piece bathing suits... are they the only options we have to splash about in this summer? Let's explore bathing suit alternatives that still keep you looking chic.

In today's video I discuss various bathing suit styles that are ideal for being active and out in the sun all day.

Let's have a look first at the tankini option. Tankinis are great because they can be paired with whatever bottom style you like... traditional swimsuit bottoms, skirt bottoms, or short bottoms. There is often ruching in the tummy area and support in the bust. I love this tankini from Lands' End paired with this mini skirt option. To check out all of Lands' End's swim suit options, click here

If you plan to be in the hot sun all day and want to protect your skin, or if you are going to be very active (think waterpark, or beach volley ball) consider a rash guard. These come in varying sleeve lengths and give your skin extra protection from the sun. I love this rash guard that is inspired by the classic Breton stripe. I am wearing it with beach shorts.

Other great resources for chic bathing suit coverups and accessories is Mer Sea & Co resort

I will be retiring the Rachel Pally Marion dress as the long-sleeves are not ideal for the hot summer weather. That will be packed away and brought out next spring. To replace it is this gorgeous Penelope dress by SKYE (Jennifer20 for 20% off). It's gauzy, and white and I have been living in it this summer. I am wearing the dress with The Spanish Sandal Co. tan nubuck sandals. JEN10 for 10% off

The Penelope dress is wrinkle-resistant, washes well, as does all of my SKYE dresses, and has a beautiful button detail that cinches in at the waist. Here is a preview of some of SKYE's beautiful 18K gold and pearl jewelry collection for summer:

Estelle long layered clover and pearl necklace Jennifer20 for 20% off This necklace is long and can be layered for a fuller look. It has SKYE signature pearls and elegant crystal clovers that remind me of
Van Cleef & Arpels.

The Lena pearl choker necklace  Jennifer20 for 20% off is delicate and charming in a vintage way.

The Therese 18K gold freshwater pearl bracelet is a delicate delight. I love the dainty design of this bracelet! Jennifer20 for 20% off.

Comment of the Week
On Monday's etiquette video, Mia writes, "I once had a great conversation with a disabled veteran that I’d just met at a business networking event about SASQUATCH. 😂 The man had been invited to an area where they film Finding Sasquatch, and we laughed as he shared “Squatch” stories. To this day I still don’t know if he thinks Sasquatch is real, but we text and share pictures each time we see something related. It’s so fun. Even my husband and daughter send him selfies with anything Sasquatch related."

Dear Mia, this is the best part about making a new friend and getting to know someone. It's those sasquatch moments where you can think of the other person and smile :) Thanks for sharing!

I hope you enjoyed today's video. I would love to know... what types of bathing suits do you like to wear? Have you updated your wardrobe for the change in season? What type of jewelry do you like to wear in the summer months? Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

Outfits of the Week + Swimwear | Ten-Item Wardrobe

12:35 PM 2 Comments

This week had me visiting a splash pad, working at home, and visiting a giant convention center, and my ten-item wardrobe served me every step of the way.

I hope you get some ten-item wardrobe inspiration in today's video.

On Day 1, I visited a splash pad with the kids. I like to wear what's called "modest swimwear" as I have had the very unpleasant experience of running around after kids in the water park in a bikini and I vowed to never do that again! It's not for everyone, but for me, I feel comfortable, classy, and prepared for any situation, plus I shield my skin from the hot sun. I bought this suit a few years ago, but am linking similar tops here and similar bottoms here. Here is a link to a similar navy visor I like to wear to shield my face form the sun. My phone case is by Casetify.

On this rather quiet, yet productive day, I'm wearing the LL Bean floral dress and the Kork Ease sandals. On my nails, Londontown guilty pleasure Use code JenniferS for 25% off

Ben and I visited the Homeschool Convention today and attended a casual concert in the evening. To be comfortable walking around, I am wearing my flat nude patent sandals, olive dress, and denim tie-up blouse (the Morning Lavender one is nearly sold out, so I am linking a similar one here from Lulus). I ran into Daily Connoisseur reader, Evangelia, at the Homeschool Convention. Hi Evangelia! xx

Day two of the convention and this time I am with the kids and they are attending a concert, which means a lot of movement. I'm wearing my new Mott & Bow Jeans (I love these jeans! Use code JLS10 for 10% off and the short sleeve sweater (which is in my extras).

On this final day, I was recovering at home from being ill. I'm wearing my navy brushstroke dress, braided headband from Madison Braids (two-strand in brunette) For other hair colors who are interested in the two-strand, click here. All braided headbands can be found at Madison Braids and navy bow flip flops (linking similar). My friendship bracelet is from Ana Luisa Jewelry Use code Jennifer10 for $10 off

I also show my exercise-wear on day 5. Here I am linking my joggers and Nike (similar) shoes.

Thank you for joining me for this outfit of the week video.

Janet W. writes, "Oh Jennifer. My husband and I went out to dinner on Father's Day and the music was playing quietly in the background when all of a sudden Bolero started playing. My husband thought it was quite nice that we were serenaded with The Chic Assignment for this month. Thank you for your lovely inspirations."

Hi Janet, how neat that Boléro was playing in a public place! I am used to hearing pop songs everywhere I go. I had to visit the dentist yesterday for a root canal and, once again, the music was dreadful! I would have loved to hear Boléro instead.

I hope you enjoyed this episode of Outfits of the week! My friends Nikki Moreno, Hilary from Old World Home, and Robin from Faith and Flour also do outfits of the week. Check out their videos for even more capsule wardrobe inspiration.

Favorites: Modest Swimwear, New SPF, Açai Bowls & More

11:38 PM 9 Comments

Thank you so much to all of you for your warm congratulations following Monday's baby news announcement. We are so excited and I can't wait to share this journey with you again.

Today, I have a long-overdue favorites video for you.

Modli Swimwear

This gorgeous two-piece modest swimsuit from Modli is an absolute favorite of mine. If you remember my modest swimwear post from last year, you'll know how much I love to wear rash guards and swim shorts and skirts in lieu of the traditional one or two piece. Modli has many modest swimsuit options. Here is a link to Modli's swimwear page. And here is the link to the swim bra shown in the video. Modli do much more than swimwear too! They have a gorgeous collection of clothes that are worth checking out. Visit them at modli.co

MyChelle Dermaceuticals natural SPF skincare

Continuing the natural skincare theme (check out my Nudu skincare review), I'm featuring a wonderful natural skincare line for sun protection: MyChelle Dermaceuticals. Their Replenishing Solar Defense body lotion in SPF 50 is 6 fluid ounces and is a high-quality and luxurious SPF for your body. I love that it's all natural. Their Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 is a great SPF base for under your makeup or for those days where SPF is all you wear on your skin. Their tinted Sun Shield stick in SPF 50 solves the problem of what to do when you need to reapply your sunscreen while you're already wearing makeup. The tint is perfect! They also have the Sun Shield stick in clear. Thank you to MyChelle Dermaceuticals for sending me this awesome line to sample. Learn more at MyChelle.com

The Rumble Roller

My father has one of these and when I tried it out, I was hooked! If you like regular massages you will love this roller. It gives you the feeling of a deep tissue massage any time you need one. I am linking both the compact size (the one I have) as well as the full size Rumble Roller.

Carrot Top Paper Shop

I just adore Jenny Williams of Carrot Top Paper Shop. She is an artist and creates artwork and paper gifts based on literary heroins. She recently sent me some updated customized stationery and I just adore it! I also love her canvas bags, bookmarks, and artwork. She also has a new line of paper dolls out. Visit her easy store Carrot Top Paper Shop to see it all.

Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker

I have been making my own yogurt lately (I will do a dedicated video to show you how) and have been loving my Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker. The yogurt turns out so good! It's creamy and delicious and the best part is I can control the ingredients.

Moss Family TV

My favorite YouTube channel lately has been Moss Family TV. I just love the passion that Falon has for her family and for family life. She inspires me to continue to make my homelife a priority for the sake of my family. Subscribe to Falon's channel and show her some love from the Connoisseur community.

Sambazon Açai Bowls

As the weather warms up and we head into spring/summer, I have been enjoying these açai bowls from Sambazon. I got my freezer pack at Costco. They are so delicious and you can customize the toppings.

I hope you enjoy today's video.

Modest Swimwear | What I Wear

5:53 AM 35 Comments

Many people have requested a swimwear video. What do I wear to the pool or the beach? Today, I'm showing you what I like to wear. You might be surprised!

I prefer to wear bathing suits that provide more coverage. Many times we think the only option is the two-piece bikini, or the one-piece suit. I am not saying there is anything wrong with those choices, but at this time in my life they are not working for me. I like to cover up more when swimming for many reasons. One of the great benefits of this is you protect your skin from the sun.

I haven't always worn modest swimwear. I had a bit of a light-bulb moment at the Legoland water park (lightbulb moments can truly happen anywhere!) that helped me make my decision and, you know what? I have never looked back.

All of my swimsuits here are over two years old, so I do not have direct links. But all of these swimsuits were purchased from Land's End. They have a great selection of rash guards, swim skirts and shorts.

I hope you enjoy today's video! Also featured:

I'm so happy I found your channel! Your perspective is so refreshing. A few things I really like about your channel: the background music (especially), the videos are not too long, you talk clearly and at a nice pace, your style. Thank you for sharing your ideas and opinions- they have me thinking about my life and how I present myself much differently. I want to start wearing dresses! 😊. I forgot to add that I also love that you promote the fine arts.

Hi Keriannak, thank you for your compliments. Many people do not know how much time goes into blogging and making videos. It takes much effort and time and it's nice to feel appreciated! Thank you to you and to everyone who supports The Daily Connoisseur.
