5 Ways to Create a Jewel Box Room | Home Tour 2021

7:22 AM 4 Comments

I'm sharing 5 ways to create a jewel box room in today's video. What is a jewel box room? House and Home describes it as: a room layered
"in rich color, pattern, your most treasured items and glamorous finishes to fill every nook and cranny. Regardless of square footage, your home should feel collected and personal."

Let's look at the 5 Ways to Create a Jewel Box Room

⚜️ Video Time Stamps

Be Bold with Art

When you search "Jewel Box Room" on Google, you will frequently come across rooms with gallery walls. Filling the walls with your favorite works of art, whether originals, reproductions, or prints, creates a rich and cultured feeling in the home. My favorite places to look for art are on eBay, or with original artists on their own websites. I like to find reproductions at Great Big Canvas

Embrace Themes

When a room has a theme, it can feel more pulled together. The theme we are building in the guest room is "vintage poster art". The theme in the master bathroom is Paris Rooftops. You can also have a color theme like "The Blue Room". Or you can have an animal theme like "The Bird Room".  Vintage poster art can be found at Great Big Canvas. The bedding here is from American Blossom Linens.

Accessorize Your Decor

Accessorize your decor with plants, floral arrangements, books, throws, and lighting fixtures that compliment the space. I love orchids for the exotic flair they add to any room.

Embrace Color & Pattern

Don't be afraid to embrace color and pattern to make your room feel personal and curated.

This is our bird room with the gorgeous Cole & Son Winter Birds wallpaper

We love our blue kitchen cabinets with brass knobs...

Add a Personal Touch

This is the most important tip. A jewel box room should feel personal as though the objects in the room mean something to the family who live there. An art piece with history behind it, your favorite books, a blanket that was knitted just for you.... these are the finishing touches to make your house feel homey.

Trudi writes, "The video made me laugh when you showed your chest freezer. My Mom used to make a joke that we would remember her butt because she was always digging in the chest freezer (family of 10…. With a funny Mom). That’s the reason I bought an upright freezer. Loved the recipes. Just bought a pumpkin loaf at Costco and froze 3/4 of it since it’s just my husband and I now. But muffins is a great idea. You have inspired me to bake! ❤️"

Trudi- I love those funny memories we have of our loved ones. Sounds like your mother had a great sense of humor! Thanks for sharing with us.

Girls' Bedroom Makeover: Wallpaper, Bedding Before & After | Beddy's

6:16 AM 7 Comments

Don't you just love a good makeover? We have been wanting to put wallpaper in our daughters' bedrooms since we moved in. After budgeting for it, we finally started their room makeovers. The girls and I had so much fun choosing their wallpaper. We used Norwall again (the same brand we used in their bedroom of our former house).

My older daughter chose a very similar wallpaper to the one she used to have, this beautiful floral.

My younger daughter chose a complimentary paper with a floral stripe. These are from the wallpaper book, "Petite Prints Wallpaper" (People's Choice basic small touches).

In today's video, you'll see the before and after of their rooms. Before, their rooms had a putty color on the walls. It was very bland. We love that the wallpaper adds such a special touch.

Another part of the makeover can be found in their bedding. I found the company, Beddy's, a while ago and was always interested in their innovative bedding design. Beddy's makes handmade bedding for all size beds (twin to king) that has a unique zipper feature. Beddy's slips on your bed in one piece, just as a fitted sheet does. It zips together like a sleeping bag, making it so easy to make your bed in the morning and achieve a tailored look, especially for children.

My daughters love sleeping bags and were so excited to try Beddy's in their own bed. They love to wake up in the morning and just zip up their beds. Voilà! A beautifully made bed.

The Chic White Beddy's are featured on each of their beds. I love that their rooms always look neater and it's easier for me to wash their bedding now. I don't need to wrestle with duvet covers and fitted sheets, but put one whole piece in the washer.

I hope you enjoy today's makeover video.

Madame Chic in Italy...

Regarding Monday's Beef Mince Pie video, Bibiane writes, "That looks delicious!!! 💕 Have you ever tried cinnamon rolls with the leftover dough. When we were small my mom used to give us the leftover pasty, we would roll it out and spread brown sugar and cinnamon and roll it up then cut slices like cinnamon buns, we still enjoy doing these!😍💐"

Hi Bibiane, thank you for the great idea. My daughters love to play with the dough and mini-cinnamon rolls are a great idea!

I hope you enjoyed today's makeover. I would love to know... do you love wallpaper? Do you have it in your home? What's your interior design style? How do you decorate your daughter's rooms? Let me know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

Chat with Jennifer: More Wallpaper, Ten-Year Anniversary & More

8:56 AM 25 Comments

Chat with me in today's video where I share a sneak peak into my daughters' bedroom wallpaper renovation. Thank you for your kind compliments about the paper we chose for our own master bedroom. I love it more and more each day. It's such a great feeling when your interior design efforts are successful (as I've had my fair share of failures in the past!).

For our daughter's bedroom, I wanted something sweet and floral (because they both love flowers so much). We chose from Norwall's Pretty Prints 4 book. Their bedroom is not complete as I am still waiting on the curtains and beds to go in, so I am not ready to share pictures yet (although you will see some in today's video). I'll be sure to share an update with you once their room is complete.

I also discuss our recent ten-year anniversary celebration and give my best marriage advice. There is also a pregnancy update. I do hope you'll check out my video this week. Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for all of your wonderful books. I just wanted to tell you how much At Home With Madam Chic has helped me improve my days. The breakdown of Morning, Afternoon, and Evening has encouraged me to look at my day as different occasions to enjoy simple pleasures that enhance and add to the day. I usually have the highest stress midday and used to dread the afternoon but now I look forward to a cup of tea and some sort of de-stressing activities. You are such an inspiration, I can't tell you how glad I am to have read your books they are changing my life. I love the wallpaper, your room reminds me of the Granthams' room in Downton Abbey. Thank you again!

Dear Valerie, Thank you for your testimonial. One of my favorite concepts from At Home with Madame Chic is the breakdown of the morning, afternoon and evening, and how it is wonderful to transition into the different parts of the day with renewed hope. Thank you for sharing your story!

This week I would love to know... How did you decorate your child's room? What is your child's style? What is your best marriage advice? How do you celebrate your anniversaries? Let me know in the comment section and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week!

Master Bedroom Wallpaper Before & After

8:46 AM 19 Comments

What a fun video I have for you today... a before and after of our master bedroom wallpaper renovation. I have always longed for wallpaper in our master bedroom, but we never wallpapered our old house for various reasons. Now that we are in a new space, I felt it time (and thankfully my husband agreed!) that we add a touch of interest to the interior design of our bedroom with wallpaper.

Our entire home is painted in the color "Silver Tradition" by Behr. This is how the house came. It's a lovely grey color, but it was a bit gloomy for the master bedroom. When we first moved into the house, we installed cream curtains with the plan to put up wallpaper in the future. Cream is the color of our bedroom furniture so we felt with the neutrality of the furniture and the curtains, we could choose a colored wallpaper that would go nicely in the room.

Here are some "before" pictures of our bedroom:

It was peaceful and serene, but a bit bland and gloomy as well.

Here are some "after" pictures:

The wallpaper is by Thibaut, from their Richmond collection. The shade is Cotswold Aqua.

Thank you to Wallpaper City and Flooring in Santa Monica and Sylvan & Phillips for doing our curtains. We like to support local, small businesses and both of these companies did a stellar job.

Be sure to check out my video to see the complete tour. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Letter of the Week
Janet T. writes:
Dear Jennifer,
I must first start off telling you that I am 60 years old, and I have read all of your books! I follow The Daily Connoisseur and I have to tell you, I have learned so much! I find your simple, subtle message appealing. I have made positive changes in my life because of your advice, and I say, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I think your words encompass multi-generations. It's a way of life we have abandoned since the '60's that I am glad to see coming back.
I was guilty of living in jeans and flannel shirts, with the excuse that we live on a farm. I have since embraced the capsule wardrobe, and I feel so much better about myself, because I look my best, 99 percent of the time.( I do not understand how Madame Chic could stay clean and garden.)
All this to say, thank you, thank you, my dear. You are a blessing! I bet you never imagined that 6 months in France would have such a far-reaching effect!
With Fond Regards,
Janet T

Dear Janet, I loved your letter! Madame Chic has such a universal appeal and can help people of all ages. I am so pleased that the principles found in my books are enriching your life on the farm! Thank you for writing to me and sharing your testimony.

On Pregnancy Chat Part 2, Katherine R. writes:

Thank you for being such an inspiring individual. The honest and open dialogue in a poised and elegant manner is incredibly soothing. My husband and I would love a large family one day too. Your discussions remind me to be present with what is so right now. Not getting caught up in the plans of a future life, without taking those necessary actions now that will support a relaxed, chic environment and mindset. Over the past few weeks I've been working from home and my 'to do' list has been getting left to the side with a general disregard for keeping up the structure to support the easy flow of the day, meditating has also not been happening. I'll justify this with the thoughts of when X,Y or Z happens then i'll be up at 6 every day and cleaning, sorting and fully organized. I'm reminded by your video of the notion of Be, Do, Have and not living the other way around! Taking actions to make a mindful approach become second nature now, being powerful, deliberate and active. Thanks for the reminder! Katherine :)

Dear Katherine, Thank you for your lovely comment. It is so important to be present with what is "right now" as you put it. We tend to say "one day" I'll live a certain way, when the reality is we can make those changes right now. Thank you for your lovely reminder.

I love to hear from you! You can always leave me a comment on the blog or send me a letter via email on my author website. Your comment could be chosen as comment of the week!
