How I Blow Dry My Hair | Twice Weekly Blow Dry | Jennifer L. Scott

It's been a long time since I've shared how I blow-dry my hair. I figured I better get this video out before I start losing my hair due to postpartum hair loss :) (which, by the way, is already happening!).

My way certainly isn't professional, but it's what works for me and would work well for anyone who has a lot of hair and likes to get their strands smooth and sleek. I section my hair off by first tying up the top portion of hair and blow drying the bottom in their own sections. Please watch today's video for the full tutorial.

Here are the items I use to blow-dry my hair: the blow dryer (I use the 3200 model, but that is no longer made, so I am linking the 3500 model here. It's the newer version), round brush, and La Beauté hair serum for frizz-free heat protection (I seriously love this stuff).

For shampoo and conditioner I have been using the Acure with argan oil + pumpkin that I reviewed in last week's Natural Home with Jennifer. Please note: many of you have asked me to review a shampoo and conditioner bar so I will be doing that soon.

Also featured: on my nails Londontown Full Monty, a nice opaque neutral. (always use my links with code JenniferS for 25% off of Londontown 9-free polish), and the robe I'm wearing can be found on Amazon.

Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy today's video.

Comment of the Week
On Monday's etiquette chat with Ben, Laura S. writes, "My dear friend has a saying that she uses often with her children: high expectations for yourself, grace for everyone else. They are words to live by!"

Laura, I absolutely loved your comment and quoted this to my family the other night at dinner. I love that saying and will adopt it now! Thank you for sharing it with us.

I would love to know... do you blow dry your hair? Do you wear your hair straight or curly? Do you have advice for me on how to wear my hair curly? What tips and tricks do you have for making your hair sleek? Let ms know and your comment could be comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

Thank you, Jennifer! I have wavy/curly hair that looks like a similar wave pattern to yours. When I wear it curly, I tend to have better results if I wash in the morning (sleeping on it roughs up my curls and make them a frizzy jumble), comb it while in the shower, pat gently with a hair towel, and then don't touch it until it's dry (no combing, no brushing). I do have a question about how you sleep on your blow dried hair...When I blow dry my hair straight, and then sleep on it, it always gets wavy and doesn't look as nice as it did the day before. Any suggestions? What do you do recommend for sleeping with sleek hair? Thank you again for all you do!

Hello Unknown, thank you so much for your comment. Yes, if I'm wearing my hair curly, I definitely have to wash it in the morning, otherwise it will be a huge mess when I wake up! :) That's one of the reasons I blow dry my hair because I have to wash it and blow dry at night. At least I do for now. I get up early, but taking a shower and blow drying my hair would wake up the little kids and I like them to sleep as long as possible.

If you're having trouble with it getting wavy when you wake up, you could run the flat iron over the wavy parts. I do that sometimes too. Thank you for watching! ~Jennifer

Thanks Jennifer! My hair is curly much like yours except that it’s shoulder length. Like you, I find it much easier to blow it straight and lightly flatiron it. Then I can go for 3-4 days and it looks fine with an occasional touch-up with a flat iron. When curly, it was much more time consuming and needed to be washed nearly every day which I think is also more drying.
Have you ever tried a silk pillowcase? Some say they are very good for both facial skin and hair. It would be fun to see you test that out and get your thoughts.

Thanks for this video, Jennifer! I can relate to much of what you shared. My hair is wavy like yours underneath, but it's straighter on top, which makes it difficult to wear wavy. I also wash/dry my hair at night because it's when I have the most time, however some nights I'm so darn tired, I just go to bed with wet, wavy hair. I put some Acure argan oil in it when it's still wet to tame the frizz, and it actually looks good wavy the next day. However, the second day, the waves start to look sloppy, so I end up wearing it up until my next wash (I have a very full head of hair and can get away with washing it once or twice a week). Like you, I find that when I do blow dry my hair, it looks presentable for several more days than when I don't. It's always worth the effort!

Your round brush is much larger than mine. How many inches is it? I love my round brush, but it's 2", and with so much hair to dry, it takes such a long time to dry. I wonder if a larger brush might cut the drying time.

I haven't worn my hair straight in over a year. It's just SO much easier to let it do what it wants. Before it would take me a good 45 minutes to wrestle with my hair now I can get it done in 10 minutes or less. It all depends on the products you use (my current favorite combo is OGX Water Cream Hydrating Treatment and Kenra Curl Glaze mousse) - I've also noticed that the longer I go without straightening my hair the better it holds the curl. I generally wash my hair at night but will have to definitely start with wet hair every morning (as I haven't figured out how to get second day curls without starting from scratch), squeeze out the excess water, add the products (use the leave-in conditioner liberally - curls love it) while crunching the hair, leave the hair alone for a bit to apply make up and then use a diffuser on the hair dryer for about 3-5 minutes and DONE.

Wow how lazy am I! I have wavy hair and have given up blow drying it, but you make it looks so easy and achievable. Two things for me....when I sleep on my hair after having it straightened i wake up looking like a lion😩 How does your stay smooth? Same goes for when I exercise or work out in the heat of the day, I perspire and my hair goes flat and/or frizzy/wavy!
But what a good idea to blow dry at night! I never have time in the morning and you have inspired me to try something different which may work for me too. I have heard a silk pillowcase can help with the night time frizz.....perhaps I should try it. Have you heard of the effectiveness of the silk pillowcase? Perhaps you could review this for us?😁
Thankyou Jennifer!

This was helpful seeing how you blow dry your hair, even though my hair is completely different from yours. I have thinning, receding, fine hair and yet I, too, reverse the direction in front when blow drying my hair so it adds volume. I wanted to ask you if you use a dry shampoo in between your two washings to add freshness, or is that not a problem? I think, because my hair is so fine and limp, I feel like I have to wash my hair more and it just seems fresher after sleeping. I recently started using Klorane Dry shampoo with oat milk (gentle formula for all hair types) that I bought on Amazon. It works nicely for those non-shampooing days.
