Homemaking Week in the Life | Tapas and Toile

In today's Homemaking Week in the Life, we are making our own version of tapas and I'm putting the finishing touches on our Master Bedroom.

I hope this series inspires you to enjoy your homemaking tasks and see the beauty in the mundane things of everyday life.

Today we are making a tapas-style lunch. We like to do this every now and then when we can't think of what to make and it always ends up being a hit. Ben cooked up some spicy sausage, and I cut up a roasted rotisserie chicken. We had it with chopped veggies, olives, and artichoke hearts. The platter of food was totally devoured!

Here is my short poem, My Ritual, that was featured in the film:

My Ritual
The world can be crumbling in every possible way
The coffee is tepid, the bills not yet paid
The laundry is piled, the monsters at bay
But all is somehow right if my bed is made

Some of you ask if my children ever interrupt my daily tasks. Yes... all the time! I try to incorporate them as much as possible and sometimes the littlest one is very determined to not let me finish. This is a good reminder for me actually. I can be a very driven and task-oriented person. I'm always trying to get to the end result. But as we know with children, it's more about the journey, rather than the destination.

This homemaking series is meant to encourage you with your daily mission. I hope today's video accomplishes that.

Comment of the Week

Elle writes, "Hi Jennifer, I love the French Country Toile look. Your bedroom looks like a lovely haven. I live in an apartment so I didn't want to do the walls and then have to paint them white when I moved out. I opted for a beautiful blue and white toile sheets set. I have a white summer coverlet to go with and the outcome is a very cozy, elegant retreat.
Thanks for sharing your home.
Ciao!
Elle"

Thank you, Elle! I love your positive attitude and that you were able to decorate with toile and work around the restrictions from your apartment. I bet your room looks lovely.

Thank you for joining me today. I would love to know how your week went in homemaking.

I love this. My kids are older now (my oldest is 18 and my youngest is 11, with three in between).... but it's a sweet memory to look back on when I'd make my bed when they were all little and were always there with me, "helping". They'd lay on their backs as I shook the sheet from the end of the bed and let it billow on top of them and they'd squeal and giggle and kick and have so much fun.
Blessings to you as you enjoy these years. They're so delightful and rewarding.

Your rose spray sounds lovely, I can just imagine how the scent would fill the home and make a nice change from the tee tree or lavender I normally mix with vinegar. If you like artichoke my occasional brunch treat to make is scrambled eggs on toast with a piece or two of artichoke on the top- yummy!

I've already posted on your YouTube channel and I wanted to add, here, that I loved your poem "My Ritual" and found it so lyrical, personal and yet universal. Thank you for sharing it. Additionally, when you showed us your poetry book, "101 Famous Poems" by Roy J. Cook, I bought it immediately, (as I do quite a few things of yours, *smile*) and I am really the enjoying the book. I read a poem from the book every morning and I often share it with friends in a text. It's a wonderful way to begin my day. A few years ago, I wrote a haiku about bed-making titled:
"Dance of the Bedmakers"
Clock sounds. Classical.
"The Dance of the Bedmakers"
Begins a new day!

You inspire me in countless way and please keep those poems coming. I love reading them and hearing them, too.

I found you via the Epoch Times article this past week. I've ordered two books, watched a homeschooling video, and know I am here to stay! It was love at the first Amelie reference lol.
