Natural & Organic Makeup Tutorial | Natural Home with Jennifer

6:45 AM 4 Comments

On today's Natural Home with Jennifer, I'm doing a le no makeup look tutorial using mostly natural and organic makeup. Today, I'm featuring Elina organics makeup.

Elina Organics makeup products are 100% natural, contain Pearl Powder and Zinc Oxide for all day sun protection. Products are free of Talc and other toxic chemicals. They contain very minimal ingredients, making it perfect for even the most sensitive complexion.

The makeup will not accentuate or clog your pores. It will infuse your skin with skin nourishing and protecting amino acids, vitamins, and probiotics. You are able to achieve different levels of coverage from almost translucent to complete concealing.

Here are links to the makeup used:

Sun Shelter tinted moisturizer, crushed pearl powder foundation (I used medium), anti-wrinkle eyeshadow in espresso, anti-wrinkle eyeshadow in raspberry latte, and all natural mascara.

The tinted moisturizer goes on sheer, but still has great coverage. It feels light on the skin and moisturizes well. It is truly the star of the show.

I love the eyeshadows too. They start off as a cream and finish as a powder and last all day. I even used them without applying primer first and they last all day without creasing. The crushed pearl powder foundation works beautifully and I was very pleasantly surprised by the mascara. All in all, this is an excellent organic makeup line.

Elina organics also sent me the natural lash growth serum with peptides, which reportedly aides in lash growth. I haven't used this long enough to comment on whether or not it works. I can come back and let you know.

Other makeup used in the video (not organic)
bareMinerals concealer
Mac mineralize blush in warm soul
bareMinerals lipgloss in hype (I use this over the Elina organics lip color, which is too light for me)

I hope you enjoy the tutorial in today's video. If you have any requests for future Natural Home with Jennifer videos, please let me know. If you have a great natural and organic makeup line you use, please share in the comments. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

Comments of the Week
Last week's Teatime with Jennifer on the Oscars was a very popular post! People from all over the world weighed in. Thank you to everyone for doing so respectfully, even through differing opinions!

Dina writes: I left a comment on your YouTube channel about the Oscars and politics and thinking more about it, I wanted to add that it's not the politics I want to avoid. I don't mind discussing deficient spending or pipelines or even immigration. It just seems people can no longer have reasonable, respectful discussions about issues anymore. Politics today is about name-calling, bullying, humiliating, ridiculing and mocking. This tearing other people down over their political opinions has become a form of entertainment for some. I'm really quite tired of such mean-spirited behavior, even by people dressed impeccably, and I want no part of it.

Hi Dina, I think you are correct that the tone has become mean-spirited from both sides. I wish topics could be discussed civilly, without resorting to attacks. Thankfully, the readers of The Daily Connoisseur are able to find that civility in the comment section on this blog. I think the beginning of Patricia's comment really emphasizes that. Here is an excerpt from her comment:

Patricia writes: Jennifer, "The Daily Connoisseur," is by far my favorite blog. I have always looked forward to it on Mondays. I didn't think it could get any better, but viewing "Tea Time with Jennifer," has added even more to my experience of feeling encouraged that there is still a community, through your blog, which embraces basic civility to all...especially working against and rising above the devaluation of ourselves, our children, family and friends to the "lowest common denominator."

Rising above and beyond that means a commitment of "involvement" of ourselves "in our ourselves" (and I'm not referring to narcissism), just to elevate ourselves by our choices and behavior so that we not only elevate ourselves, but our children, and those others within our small sphere of influence...perhaps our spouse, family members, friends, neighbors, and even our community in some meaningful way.

Hi Patricia, Thank you for your comment. It is not easy to share our opinions sometimes, especially if they are unpopular. I do appreciate the poise and class with which our readers express themselves. We are so lucky to have each other!

Thank you to everyone for watching today's video. If there is any beauty review you'd like to see on The Daily Connoisseur, please let me know and I will do my best to honor your request.

BECCA Ombre Rouge Palette Review + Fall Makeup

10:20 AM 9 Comments

I've had many fall makeup requests over the past few weeks, so today I'm showing you the eye shadow palette I have been using for the fall season, the BECCA Ombre Rouge eyeshadow palette.

I have been wearing the same eyeshadow combinations for a while now, and felt like trying something new, so I picked up this palette. I wasn't sure I would like it because of the tinges of red (hence the 'rouge') in the shades, but I was pleasantly surprised! These are very natural looking shades that would be universally flattering. I like them because they bring out my eye color and are still quite subtle.

In this week's video, I apply the eyeshadow and show you swatches. I also give a quick tutorial on how to apply eyeshadow on a hooded eye. Whether you have this palette, or not, I hope I provide inspiration to use whatever fall makeup you do have to change your le no makeup look with the season.

Also featured in the video are the usual suspects, YSL Faux Cils burgundy mascara, Urban Decay primer potion, Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist's Palette and CHANEL Rouge Coco lipstick in Mademoiselle. On my nails is OPI Barefoot in Barcelona.

I hope you enjoy this week's video!

Comment of the Week
From last week's Facebook Etiquette discussion,
On YouTube, Kristen C. writes:

This is a great video. My general rule of thumb is: if you wouldn't want to see it on a billboard while driving down the freeway, don't post it online. This may sound a bit extreme, but you never know what can happen after you've shared something. No matter how good you think your privacy settings are, the things you post can be discovered, even after you've deleted them. Another thing to think about (that most people don't consider) is how your social media accounts could be used against you in a lawsuit. I am a paralegal, and I have seen so many cases where Facebook pages, and even text messages, are used to great advantage (or disadvantage, depending on your perspective). As we were told in paralegal school, always behave as though the judge were looking over your shoulder. In other words, be courteous and gracious, particularly in times of disagreement. If someone has wronged you, give that person every chance to make things right.

Hi Kristen, Your advice really reinforces that what we post on Facebook is important. Thank you for sharing your experience as a paralegal with us!

This week, I would love to know... what is your favorite fall makeup right now? Do you have hooded eyelids like me? What are your tricks for applying makeup?

My Everyday Makeup Routine

4:44 PM 10 Comments
Thank you for your powerful response to last week's video on self-discipline and instant gratification. This topic has clearly hit a nerve! I will be continuing this series with all of your requests and you can look forward to those videos in on-going future discussions on The Daily Connoisseur.

Le no makeup look
Le no makeup look (first introduced in Lessons from Madame Chic) is something I practice nearly every day. On days when I'm rushed, it could just include eyebrow powder, under eye concealer and mascara. If I have a few more minutes I can create a natural, yet polished look. On a daily basis I always do something and it never takes more than a few minutes.

This week's video shows you my typical daily makeup routine in a few variations. If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel (and subscribe!) at www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

I will repeat, as I do in all of my makeup posts, that you do not need to purchase anything that I use in this video to create your own no makeup look. Most likely you already have makeup in your own collection that will work just fine. For reference sake, I am listing the makeup used below.

YSL Top Secrets BB Cream

Beauty Blender

Benefit Fake Up under eye concealer in 02 medium

Benefit Boi-ing concealer in 03

MAC blog powder pressed in medium

Urban Decay primer potion

L'Oreal Voluminous mascara

Sephora eyebrow editor in honey blonde

Tarte matte eyeshadow palette (no longer available) Every single makeup line available (both high-end and low) carry neutral eyeshadow shades in putty, taupe and nude colors... have fun finding your favorite!

Madame Chic Inspiring Thought
Don't be discouraged by sloppy people in your community. Let them inspire you to look presentable on a daily basis. Challenge yourself to put your best foot forward regularly. Just do your best (whatever that is for you). Enjoy getting ready in the morning! Express your positive anticipation for the new day with how you present yourself.

This week I would love to know... what is your everyday makeup routine? Do you have any favorite makeup products to share?

Special Announcement

Simon & Schuster have moved up the publication date for my upcoming book! At Home With Madame Chic will be published now on October 7th, 2014 (previously November 4th). Not long to wait now...

A Midsummer Night's Makeup Tutorial

This week I have for you an enchanting le no makeup look tutorial, set to Chopin's Raindrop Prelude, fit for a midsummer night's eve. This makeup look utilizes soft pinks and violet shades, and with a little creativity, can be achieved with the makeup you already have on hand. For a list of the makeup used in this video, please see the links below.

If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

**Video note: For vibrancy, I shoot my videos on the "food and fashion" setting. Because of this, the eyeshadow, in particular, looks darker on camera than it does in person. Rest assured, this is still a le no makeup look!

Makeup list:

Beauty Blender (stay tuned for an in-depth review of this next week)

Benefit Fake Up under eye concealer in 02 medium (this concealer is really hydrating and is my new favorite for the under eye area)

Benefit Boi-ing concealer in 03 (And this is my current favorite spot concealer. It does an excellent job and blends in naturally)

MAC blot powder pressed in medium

Urban Decay primer potion (I can't do without this... love it.)

Laura Mercier artist palette (this palette is no longer available but the individual shades can be found on the Laura Mercier website)
Shades used: Primrose, African Violet, Plum Smoke, Sparkly Dew

NYX butter gloss in “tiramisu” (Affordable and effective... love this lip gloss)

Bobbi Brown long wear gel liner in caviar ink (My favorite eyeliner... dare I say Holy Grail?)

Secrets of the Lighthouse Giveaway

Our summer of book giveaways continues with another book by Santa Montefiore called Secrets of the Lighthouse, which will be released on August 5th.

Set in Ireland on the wild coast of Connemara, this hauntingly romantic novel tells the story of a young woman who goes in search of her family’s past and ends up discovering her future.

Ellen Trawton is running away from it all. She hates her job, she doesn’t love the aristocratic man to whom she is engaged, and her relationship with her controlling mother is becoming increasingly strained. So Ellen leaves London, fleeing to the one place she knows her mother won’t find her, her aunt’s cottage in Connemara. Cutting all her ties with chic London society, Ellen gives in to Ireland’s charm and warmth, thinking her future may lie where so much of her past has been hidden. Her imagination is soon captured by the compelling ruins of a lighthouse where, five years earlier, a young mother died in a fire.

The ghost of the young wife, Caitlin, haunts the nearby castle, mourning the future she can never have there. Unable to move on, she watches her husband and children, hoping they might see her and feel her love once more. But she doesn’t anticipate her husband falling in love again. Can she prevent it? Or can she let go and find a way to freedom and happiness?

The ruggedly beautiful Connemara coastline with its tightknit community of unforgettable characters provides the backdrop for this poignant story of two women seeking the peace and love they desperately need. For each, the key will be found in the secrets of the past, illuminated by the lighthouse.

Simon & Schuster are offering to give away 5 copies of The Summer House to readers of the Daily Connoisseur! This giveaway is open to US residents only (terms set by Simon & Schuster). Please enter via the rafflecopter widget below. Best of luck!

Le No Makeup Look Matte Makeup Tutorial

5:00 PM 7 Comments

This week we are exploring "le no makeup look" with a new matte palette I recently purchased from Tarte. But, as always, you do not need to use the exact makeup I use in this video. You can most likely recreate this subtle look from the makeup you already have! All you need are some soft pink, mauve, plum or taupe matte eyeshadows and a soft pink matte blush. This is such a lovely look for when you want to look as natural as possible. No shimmer, no sparkle, just beautiful shades that blend seamlessly into your skin.

I also share a no makeup look trick of mine: to only apply mascara to the outer lashes. This gives the illusion of long lashes but looks marvelously natural at the same time. I wore this very makeup look in last week's video discussing the ten-item wardrobe. I hope you enjoy!

If you are unable to see the video above, click here, look in the sidebar of this blog, or visit my channel: www.youtube.com/TheDailyConnoisseur

Makeup used in this video:

CHANEL perfection lumiere foundation

MAC pro longwear concealer

MAC studio finish concealer

CHANEL éclat lumiere

Sephora eyebrow editor in Honey Blonde

Urban Decay primer potion

Tarte CC Matte palette

Shu Uemura eyelash curler

CHANEL inimitable intense mascara

By Terry lip gloss in Bitten Splash

Dior Porcelaine nail polish

Stella (In the video I use Stella Sheer, but because that is limited edition and only released in the summer, I am providing the link to the original Stella here.)

For more on le no makeup look, check out my book, Lessons from Madame Chic.

FTC: all makeup featured in this video was purchased by me.

** Music in the video: Frédéric Chopin - Nocturne In F Minor, Op. 55. Copyright-free music I purchased from pond5.com

How do you like this look. Will you try it this season?
