Rebound with Me February 2019 | Jennifer L. Scott

4:34 AM 6 Comments

Join me for my monthly rebound with me series. My aim was to jump on the rebounder every day in January, but I didn't quite get to that and the month seemed to fly by. I have the goal of dong 5 minutes a day now in February. I hope you enjoy jumping with me in today's video.

This is the rebounder I use for exercise.

And linked here are the jogger pants I'm exercising in, as well as my Daily Connoisseur workout sweatshirt.

I hope you enjoy jumping with me in today's video. I shot this last week and have been jumping to this same routine each night. It's been fun listening to the music and jumping along! I hope you have fun too.

Please note: this video is for entertainment purposes only. Please consult a health professional before embarking on rebounding.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday for an interview with author, Fiona Ferris!

Extreme Junk Drawer Declutter | Jennifer L. Scott

5:03 AM 3 Comments

Today I have some much needed junk drawer therapy for you. Clear your junk drawer (or drawers as in my case) along with me and let's get organized.

I find that my junk drawers form when I'm tidying quickly and/or trying to keep things out of my children's reach. I can have a bad habit of stuffing items in drawers so they are temporarily out of sight. This has resulted in three junk drawers in our home (or drunk drawers as I keep calling them. I can't talk in today's video! :) My children also are in the habit of putting things in our junk drawers as you will see. I find some crazy things in there!

Today's video is a collaboration with the lovely Robin from Faith and Flour. Robin has such a great YouTube channel! She has a lovely manner about her and her videos are so pleasing to watch. Show Robin some love and check out her video after you watch mine. Make sure you tell her I say hello and subscribe as well!

A few things I mention in my video today:

Rainy Day Classics This is a great classical music album, great for anyone looking for a comprehensive collection.

La Bonne Cuisine de Madame E Saint Ange is a classic French cookbook my parents gave me. I have a great idea for a series surrounding this book. Stay tuned!

I clean my drawers with my e-cloth. I love the e-cloth! It cleans with just water and picks up so much with its tightly woven bristles.

Comment of the Week
From last week's Etiquette post on YouTube, Maria writes, "I see that people unawareness is the same all over the world, people don't enjoy the moment they are living but rather put filters between them and what they are doing: instead of enjoying a concert, a play at the theatre, a conversation with friends or a dinner, they are worried about what is 'other' than that moment. So, they take photos instead of watching, they video instead of listening, they check socials instead of socializing. This is the symptom of lack of self-knowledge and profound ignorance. Is there a cure? I doubt there is...
A hug from Italy, dear Jennifer. I love your books, they are on my bed-side table."

Hi Maria, I really liked your comment and thought it was spot-on. I have noticed this too and it's a shame. Ben and I will be shooting a part 2 to the etiquette video so stay tuned!

Thank you for joining me today. I would love to clear your junk drawers along with me. Let me know how you did!

Reviewing Mrs. Meyer's New Rain Water Scent | Natural Home with Jennifer

5:21 AM 4 Comments

It's time for another Mrs. Meyer's review, this time of her newest scent, Rain Water.

Rain Water is a very pleasant, mild, subtle scent that is really nice for the transition from winter to spring. It reminds me of Issey Miyake's L'eau D'Issey (although I couldn't remember that while I was speaking :) )

I hope you enjoy my quick review in today's video.

This scent can only be found at Grove Collaborative currently. I'm passing on Grove's February special to you here:

New customers receive: Mrs. Meyer's Hand Soap, Mrs. Meyer's Dish Soap, Seedling Paper Towels, Seedling Bath Tissue, Grove Walnut Scrubber Sponges
Free Shipping & VIP Trial when you spend $20.

Existing Customer Offer:
Grove Walnut Scrubber Sponges

The Seedling paper towels and bath tissue are made of bamboo. I haven't tried them yet but have an order on the way. Let me know if you like them!

If you've tried the new Mrs. Meyer's rain water, please leave your thoughts in the comments. Thank you and I'll see you on Thursday for a fun collaboration video with Robin from Faith and Flour!

Chic February Assignment | A New Monthly Challenge | Jennifer L. Scott

6:22 AM 16 Comments

I'm starting a new monthly series called, The Chic Assignment. In this series, I will present four assignments that will better your month. Everything I present will be free and readily accessible to everyone. Let's get started with the month of February.

🎵Listen to 10. Sonata No. 8 in C minor, op. 13 (Pathétique) I: Grave - Allegro di molto e con brio (BEETHOVEN) Try listening to this masterpiece while cleaning your kitchen or making breakfast. Your daily routine will be elevated to new levels.

👗Ten-Item Wardrobe Assess your wardrobe and come up with one item that you absolutely love and one item you realize you could do without. Donate the item that isn't working for you. It's good to get in the habit of constantly assessing your wardrobe in this way.

🌿Natural Home Replace something you use in your home or beauty routine with a more natural product. It can be anything from a cleaning solution to a makeup product. Even if you just switch to cleaning with vinegar, you will sense a shift in the home.

📖 Read (or listen to) one book this month. We can get so busy. Life gets in the way and so do other forms of entertainment. This month, choose a new book and aim to read it within the month. Or listen to an audiobook. You can rent them from the library or if you have an audible subscription, you can easily find something good... Right now I'm reading book 4 in the Amory Ames series, An Act of Villainy.

I hope you will take on this challenge with me presented in today's video.

On last week's Blow Dry tutorial, Lauren C. writes on YouTube, "I am a professional hair stylist and you did amazing !! I am going to refer my clients to this ! It is actually a great example blowing out your own hair is very difficult to explain !"

Lauren, I was amazed at your comment. I was completely convinced that I had no idea what I was doing when blow drying my hair (I just knew it worked for me). Thank you for giving me the professional thumbs up!

Thank you for joining me today. I look forward to doing the Chic Assignment with you. Check back with us and let us know how you did!

Natural & Organic Makeup Tutorial | Natural Home with Jennifer

6:45 AM 4 Comments

On today's Natural Home with Jennifer, I'm doing a le no makeup look tutorial using mostly natural and organic makeup. Today, I'm featuring Elina organics makeup.

Elina Organics makeup products are 100% natural, contain Pearl Powder and Zinc Oxide for all day sun protection. Products are free of Talc and other toxic chemicals. They contain very minimal ingredients, making it perfect for even the most sensitive complexion.

The makeup will not accentuate or clog your pores. It will infuse your skin with skin nourishing and protecting amino acids, vitamins, and probiotics. You are able to achieve different levels of coverage from almost translucent to complete concealing.

Here are links to the makeup used:

Sun Shelter tinted moisturizer, crushed pearl powder foundation (I used medium), anti-wrinkle eyeshadow in espresso, anti-wrinkle eyeshadow in raspberry latte, and all natural mascara.

The tinted moisturizer goes on sheer, but still has great coverage. It feels light on the skin and moisturizes well. It is truly the star of the show.

I love the eyeshadows too. They start off as a cream and finish as a powder and last all day. I even used them without applying primer first and they last all day without creasing. The crushed pearl powder foundation works beautifully and I was very pleasantly surprised by the mascara. All in all, this is an excellent organic makeup line.

Elina organics also sent me the natural lash growth serum with peptides, which reportedly aides in lash growth. I haven't used this long enough to comment on whether or not it works. I can come back and let you know.

Other makeup used in the video (not organic)
bareMinerals concealer
Mac mineralize blush in warm soul
bareMinerals lipgloss in hype (I use this over the Elina organics lip color, which is too light for me)

I hope you enjoy the tutorial in today's video. If you have any requests for future Natural Home with Jennifer videos, please let me know. If you have a great natural and organic makeup line you use, please share in the comments. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

How I Blow Dry My Hair | Twice Weekly Blow Dry | Jennifer L. Scott

6:59 AM 7 Comments

It's been a long time since I've shared how I blow-dry my hair. I figured I better get this video out before I start losing my hair due to postpartum hair loss :) (which, by the way, is already happening!).

My way certainly isn't professional, but it's what works for me and would work well for anyone who has a lot of hair and likes to get their strands smooth and sleek. I section my hair off by first tying up the top portion of hair and blow drying the bottom in their own sections. Please watch today's video for the full tutorial.

Here are the items I use to blow-dry my hair: the blow dryer (I use the 3200 model, but that is no longer made, so I am linking the 3500 model here. It's the newer version), round brush, and La Beauté hair serum for frizz-free heat protection (I seriously love this stuff).

For shampoo and conditioner I have been using the Acure with argan oil + pumpkin that I reviewed in last week's Natural Home with Jennifer. Please note: many of you have asked me to review a shampoo and conditioner bar so I will be doing that soon.

Also featured: on my nails Londontown Full Monty, a nice opaque neutral. (always use my links with code JenniferS for 25% off of Londontown 9-free polish), and the robe I'm wearing can be found on Amazon.

Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy today's video.

On Monday's etiquette chat with Ben, Laura S. writes, "My dear friend has a saying that she uses often with her children: high expectations for yourself, grace for everyone else. They are words to live by!"

Laura, I absolutely loved your comment and quoted this to my family the other night at dinner. I love that saying and will adopt it now! Thank you for sharing it with us.

I would love to know... do you blow dry your hair? Do you wear your hair straight or curly? Do you have advice for me on how to wear my hair curly? What tips and tricks do you have for making your hair sleek? Let ms know and your comment could be comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

6:44 AM 17 Comments

Thank you to everyone who sent in requests for today's etiquette video. I received hundreds of comments and letters through the blog, YouTube, social media and my contact form on the author website. Clearly the topic of modern etiquette resonates with so many people. You would not believe the stories we read! I have enough material for an entire year :) Ben and I could not address each question, but answered a variety of conundrums in today's video.

How do you handle the houseguest who is perpetually on their smartphone? What do you do when your theatre experience is sabotaged by a fellow audience member? What's the etiquette for grooming oneself in public? What should you say to a pregnant lady? How do you handle dogs at the dinner table? Is the wave of courtesy extinct? Find out our answers to all of these questions plus much, much more.

New Natural Finds | Hand Sanitizer, Hair Care, Eczema & e-cloth | Natural Home with Jennifer

5:38 AM 6 Comments

On today's episode of Natural Home with Jennifer , I'm sharing some new natural finds in four different categories.

Hand Sanitizers

Birdie and Minnie Hand Sanitizers by Olika are wonderful little inventions. Here are some of their attributes:

VALUE - With 350+ sprays or 175 uses, Birdie replaces 10+ bottles of gel based alternatives.
HYDRATING - Formulation is proven to improve skin hydration for up to 24 hours.
BETTER-FOR-YOU INGREDIENTS - Formula contains 7 simple, natural ingredients that you can recognize and understand: Alcohol, water, glycerin, aloe vera and the essential oils of lemon, spearmint and bergamot.
NO NASTY CHEMICALS: Vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and void of any harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances.
DUAL FUNCTIONALITY - Birdie contains a sanitizing spray plus 10 dry wipes. Simply spray liquid on to wipe to capture dirt and grime on hands.
HIGH TECH - Birdie contains a twist locking mechanism to prevent accidental sprays on-the-go. Our bird needs to be fully unlocked in order to spray liquid.
The Minnie has 500+ sprays or 250 uses, Minnie replaces 15+ bottles of gel based alternatives.

They are also TSA friendly, so you can take them on your flight. Olika sent me these to review back in December and I've been using them ever since. They are very handy and make a great natural alternative to traditional chemical-laden hand sanitizers.

Shampoo + Conditioner

The Acure Argan Oil + Pumpkin Shampoo and Conditioner is a beautifully hydrating duo with a delightful scent. (Seriously, this smells amazing). I purchased mine on Grove Collaborative but you can also find the set on Amazon.

Vegan, gluten and cruelty free
Paraben, sulfate, silicone, sodium chloride, phthalate and synthetic fragrance free
Color safe, 100 percent biodegradable

I find these to be very moisturizing. They get my hair clean and I like their natural properties.

Eczema Therapy Cream

I requested the Kamedis Dermatology Eczema Therapy Cream to try as I have suffered from a particularly bad case of hand eczema of late. (Watch today's video to hear the whole story.) I find this cream to be very soothing and does help my hands when I suffer from a flare-up. Here are some of the botanicals found in this natural cream:

Chinese Rhubarb: a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial botanical
Great Burnet
Tree of Heaven
Baikal Skullcap
Cnidium Fruit
Licorice

Here is more on Kamedis Dermatology from their website:
Kamedis skin formulations are derived from natural botanicals used in traditional Chinese medicine, botanicals that have been renowned for their therapeutic properties for hundreds if not thousands of years. Ours are conscientiously sourced and meticulously purified. Our manufacturing process employs the highest quality standards, including assessment of physical and chemical properties and microbiological testing.

**Please ask the opinion of your healthcare professional before using any new product to treat your eczema condition.

e-cloths - clean with just water

I love my e-cloths and was excited to test out the electronics cloth and glassware polishing cloth

They both performed beautifully. I was especially impressed with how the electronics cloth polished my laptop. To use, try it on your electronics dry first. If you have any stubborn streaks, dampen one corner of the cloth with water and wipe, then go over the same spot with a dry part of the towel.

The glass polishing cloth has a rough texture that is perfect for polishing your glasses. A great thing to do before a dinner party.

I hope you enjoyed the items reviewed on today's Natural Home with Jennifer. If you have any requests for this series, please let me know.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday for an all new video.
