Maria writes, "Hi Jennifer , I really enjoyed this video. The quote which helps me when things get a big heated is " there is greater strength in silence" ☺️ don't you just love this. It's so true isn't it, how easy is it to retaliate & lower your self down to Their level.....but how hard is it to remain silent. Very hard in my experience. But we grow & we learn.
Much love Maria (UK). Xx💕"

Hi Maria, I love that quote and it's so true. Thank you for sharing it with us!

From Jennifer Scott—author of the New York Times bestselling Madame Chic series and founder of the Daily Connoisseur blog—comes this playful take on manners and being a good global citizen. Parents and younger children work together to read about a wide range of topics: communication, table manners, tidiness, thinking of others, grooming, and health. Activities, learning games, fill-in-the-blanks, letter-writing exercises, recipes (for food and for slime!), and some fun songs and rhymes help kids learn concepts and practice good behaviors. Featuring charming illustrations and go-to advice from a trusted source, this is a timely guide for raising well-mannered, neat, and gracious children for parents, grandparents, and children of reading age. #connoisseurkids #thebookmarkshoppe #bookstore #bookstagram #bookish #amreading #readabook #readersofinstagram #bayridge #independentbookstore #brooklyn #shoplocal

flynn1a writes, "I used to teach at a school where the drama teacher was a master of the minimal wardrobe. Every day she wore slim-fitting,dark-colored pants with a neutral or pale top and every now and then a brightly-colored flyaway cardigan. You never really noticed what she was wearing; you just noticed that she always looked great, very professional, very polished. You saw HER; you didn’t see clothes. The downside is that she probably didn’t get many compliments on her outfits. But she also probably didn’t get people thinking, “THAT dress again!?” The key seems to be neutrals. I also noticed this in Paris. Women from 20 to 70(+?) were generally dressed in neutrals."

Flynnla, I really enjoyed hearing about your former colleague. We all have those women who have stood out to us for their simple style, which shows that sometimes less really is more!

I hope you enjoyed today's interview. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on all of the topics Angela and I discussed.

English Etiquette with Alena Kate Pettitt and Jennifer L. Scott

5:48 AM 8 Comments

Today on The Daily Connoisseur, I'm interviewing the lovely Alena Kate Pettitt from The Darling Academy.

We chat about every from proper English teatime etiquette to the royals. We also discuss her new book, English Etiquette: The Motivation Behind the Manners.

This is not another etiquette book detailing the antiquated, excruciating, and frankly confusing minefield of rules lauded by traditionalists. Let’s face it, many of us will never need to know which side a snail fork should be placed at the dinner table, nor are we likely to ‘take tea’ with the Queen. Yet we could all do with a little help in perfecting our manners, self-confidence, and social graces for everyday living.

English Etiquette details everything the English know about why etiquette matters, in a modern, understandable, and unpretentious way – while teaching you how to cultivate a traditional and charming countenance to rival any royal.

Covering topics such as gallantry and grace, common decency, lifestyle choices, the quintessential English wardrobe, and behaviour in the home, you will learn how to shoehorn a little English gentility from this practical field guide into your daily life.

So pull your socks up ladies and gentlemen, pour yourself a cup of tea, and join The Darling Academy as we return to a culture of good manners, civility, and chivalry the world is longing for.

A proper, polite, and graceful way of living is making a comeback. Long may it prevail.

I hope you enjoy today's interview!

Regarding my piano performance in The Chic March Assignment check-in, Celeste W. writes, "Thank you for playing for us! As a piano teacher, it's rewarding to see an adult who plays for her own pleasure. It gives perspective and encouragement about the goal of piano lessons."

Thank you, Celeste! My performance had many flaws but my message is not to strive for perfectionism, but rather to feed our souls. I appreciate your comment, especially as you are a piano teacher! Thank you!

On Saturday's special video on social media and perfection, Kim from Free to Family wrote, "Hey Friend! I totally feel this way many times. While we like to share tips and help other women, it by no means insinuates that we are perfect. While I like my channel to have quality content and nice videos, I also want people to know I am real too..and a work in progress:) People do create a perfect picture in their mind of us many times based on the 5% we share...we are all NORMAL REAL people! thanks for this message and HERE is to ENJOYING the process!!! xoxo"

Hi Kim, I agree! When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable by showing our real life situations, it can encourage others to know that they aren't alone. It's OK to be normal and real :)

Thank you for joining me for today's interview. I hope you enjoyed it! Be sure to enter the giveaway for Fiona's lovely book.

On Monday's How to Wear Dresses in the Winter post, Lisa writes, "I almost always wear dresses too. In the winter (I'm in North Carolina) I like wearing my dresses with fleece leggings, boots, and cardigans. If I need an extra layer under my dress, I like wearing long sleeve Half-Tees. (they have a website.) I've worn fingerless gloves inside and I've also been wearing a beret some this winter too. Thank you for sharing this post! I LOVE your boots that you said your mother-in-law designed. If only they were still available! :)"

Thank you for your comment, Lisa. I really enjoyed reading how you like to style your dresses in the winter. Thank you for the compliment on my mother-in-law's boots. She truly is talented.
